Lightbulb Donkey Kong for the Wii

We all remember DK64, but do you think they should make a DK action/adventure game for the Wii. If so, post ideas on the plot, characters, control scheme, or anything you want.

Re: Donkey Kong for the Wii

It sort of pisses me off that there wasn't a true Donkey Kong game for the GameCube. There was Jungle Beat, but it wasn't like DK64 or DK Country. I'm tired of all the music-based games and racing games, and other spinoffs such as King of Swing.

I'd like to see another 3D DK game with King K. Rool as the villain. And, I'd like it to have as much depth as 64. DK 64 was one of the most ambitious titles in the N64's lifetime, and had so much stuff to do, even though critics disagree on wether it was great or not.

Exactly the same. It's really a shame. Guess Nintendo can't make a decent DK game without Rare... CURSE YOU MICROSOFT!

Yeah, but most of the people who developed all the N64 Rare games left Rare anyway. Its a wonder why Perfect Dark 2, Kameo and others haven't been as successful as their pressecors.

If Nintendo can make great Mario games, they can do the same for Donkey Kong. I believe the problem is not the talent of the developers, but the interest of the developers. It seems as though they have pushed DK to the side, as a not-so-important project. It's stupid, considering that Donkey Kong gave rise to Mario, and without Mario, there would be no Nintendo. DK should be a very important franchise.

Well not only that, but does Nintendo still have rights to Donkey Kong? Thanks to the new Microsoft and Rare ordeal?

Donkey Konga, Donkey Konga II, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and DK: King of Swing all came about after Nintendo gave up Rare, I believe.

Seeing how awful Donkey Kong 64 was, I hope he's just a mascot from now on. Ridiculous collect-a-thon. The video game equivalent of running around a supermarket and shoving random things into your cart all day.

I think alot of people would disagree with you. Many critics actually praised the game for that aspect, and gave the game positive reviews. People have claimed that the game was ambitious for putting all that stuff in the game. All the stuff to do, all of the stuff to collect... The more stuff to do in a game would keep a gamer playing for hours, instead of a simple, "Start to finish" game. Of course, not all of it is rewarding, but there are a couple of great rewards to be found in the game. Oblivion is another good example of having plenty of stuff to do.

Re: Donkey Kong for the Wii

I don't think there's anything ambitious about being exactly like Banjo Kazooie with new characters.

THANK... YOU...

I wasn't the only one to notice that very same thing!

...However, that doesn't mean that DK64 was a bad game. All those similar games played well and were fun to play.

Re: Donkey Kong for the Wii

As we all know the DK action adventure games made for the N64 and Super Nintendo were developed by Rareware but those retards moved to X-Box and look what happened no success. The Donkey Konga and jungle beat were both really good games but i would like to see a new donkey kong game using the wii controls I hope they would make one and I think that hopefully yes they will make a donkey kong action adventure game for the wii. and i also hope that DK64 would be available for the virtual wii console.

Re: Donkey Kong for the Wii

I never liked Rare anyway. I liked Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Aside from that, nothing. They made too many games like DK 64, which were all basically knock offs of Mario 64.

Re: Donkey Kong for the Wii

Are people still into this? Donkey Kong is just a bunch of childhood memories, he's not needed anymore. Gosh, you just need to take a look back at the past to see that his main merit has no potential, of expanding on the Wii. You know what I'm talking about. That's right! Graphics.
The reason to Donkey Kong's rise to popularity in the nineties was it's impressive graphics.
I'm sure Nintendo could do a great game out of it, but what's the point when they've got the Mario series?

I think that's quite naive. Collectibles were the lens flare of the gaming industry, it was not the product of ambition but the N64's biggest weakness: cartridges. Besides it seems oppinion has changed quite a bit. Donkey Kong 64 from what I've seen in recent years is remembered as the collectibles hell. And I agree, talk about desperate way to drag out on a games lifespan.

Alrighty, you have me there.

Maybe its less of the actual content, but more of the principle that resides behind it. It doesn't have to be collectibles; but there definitely has to be a load of content in the game. For DK64's time, having alot of collectibles was probably considered deep. Today, opinion does differ, I admit. But for its time, the game was considered great.

Maybe, instead of having alot of collectibles, a new Donkey Kong game could make up for depth by adding in more levels, more environments, and more sidequests, and having a non-linear structure.
