Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

Well it appears the two gaming rivals are finally teaming up in a game together. This always seemed like a cool idea to me, but I can't get excited about this news. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is a game coming out for Wii and DS and you get to play as a bunch of Mario and Sonic characters taking part in Olympic. In all honesty, this is a rubbish idea. It really is. Maybe it'll be along the same vein as Wii Sports- playing simple games with innovative controls- but I still can't help but find the idea of sticking these characters into the Olympics really really lame.
An early April fools joke perhaps? IGN: Mario and Sonic Together at Last

It seems like a good idea to me. It may be an april fools joke but... Seems cool, I can totally see it being a great game.

Well, it's on Sega's official website: MARIO AND SONIC AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Do big gaming companies play April Fool's Jokes?

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

lol how can Mario possibly beat Sonic at any of the running competitions? They'll definitely have to slow him down a bit. And this game seems alright. Using the wiimote should be really fun and beating sonic and his cronies with people from the mushroom kingdom should be quite fun.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

Well, if it's on the official sites it must indeed be real. I think the game could be fun...but the concept... oh it makes me cringe for some reason. It's not like there's an Olympics being held in the mushroom kingdom or something...they're supposed to be taking part in the Beijing Olympics. I keep searching for words in my vocabulary to describe this but all I can come up with is lame. Ugh.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

this game sounds terrible. thats all i can really say. im mostly annoyed because nintendos publishing what will most likely be another uninspired collection of minigames related to sports and will probably have unimaginative controls. though thats just me negative opinion

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

The idea of a sports game is a little..bleh.. But you guys have to look past this.

This could be the start of many more Games With Sonic and Mario together, and hopefully.. A action adventure game will come out of this.

I have to look at it this way... If they did, do you really think people would take them seriously in the future?

This would be the April Fool's joke to end all APD jokes if it indeed were such.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

Well, it's also on Nintendo's official site (NoA one) as well. That site also states that Nintendo will be publishing it in Japan, and Sega will publish it everywhere else (not sure why this is). It doesn't state who developed it, though.

It seems pretty corny, though. Olympics? You have to admit, though, one game with those three names (Mario, Sonic, Olympics) is going to get a lot of attention. I don't really care if it's sports or not- it just needs to be good. That's all I ask.

Re: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics

hmmm... isn't Sonic in brawl? that oughta be good enough. This seems to be a bit extreme. Running? Table Tennis? (I wonder why that sounds familiar)

It could be a good rental, but probably not a must have.
