Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the Virtual Console?

Hey does anyone think that Perfect Dark or Goldeneye will be on the virtual console?

I sure hope they are... I remember playing Goldeneye when I was younger, with my friend and brother (3 player), now that was fun. I want to play it again.

I could go looking around for the two games but if I can't - the VC will be my last option.

Re: Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the Virtual Console?

I remember Nintendo talking about Goldeneye. They said that they'd try to put it up, but there were a number of licence issues.
Considering perfect dark... I dunno. Do they have to get that decision approved by Rare? I mean, they did put Donkey Kong Country up, so I can see it happening. Hope so at least.

I still like goldeneye, but since my nintendo won't work, i downloaded it, it's still fun but i can't get past level 9. If you would like it go to google and type:
goldeneye doom2.
It's an awsome game.

I wouldn't say selling 2.5 million copies makes it an unpopular game. Of course, it doesn't come near GoldenEye's 8 million.

It'd be cool to see both of them on the VC eventually. I'm not sure about all the rights things, but as has been mentioned, Reggie mentioned that they're exploring how to get GoldenEye on VC at least. Also, Rare have said it is possible, but again, cited the complicated rights issues.

Yes but they own the license for Donkey Kong, as Nintendo first made the character. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark however are straight from Rare itself. Especially with Perfect Dark there are license issues since PD2 came out for the xbox 360.

I wonder why it's a problem to port GoldenEye to VC. I thought it would be no problem, if this deems true I would be very dissapointed at Nintendo. Because my original copy is lost.

Rare belongs to Microsoft now. License issues.

Lots of misinformation on this thread:

-Even though RARE developed GoldenEye, Nintendo is the actual owner of the code. They donīt have to speak to MS or Rare, Nintendo has to speak to the actual owners of the Bond licence.

-Perfect Dark will never go to VC because the game was developed AND published by Rare.

Re: Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the Virtual Console?

We had this conversation at NeoGAF a while ago. When Rare was sold to MS, Nintendo kept the rights to the code of GoldenEye, so basically they have they have to make a deal with Activision, which is the company that has the gaming rights of the Bond franchise. I canīt even remember where that thread is now.

As for Perfect Dark, well that is MS/Rare locked.

Reggie said in an interview with MTV that he wanted Golden Eye on Virtual Console. But you know what I think? He said that just to please the fanboys and I donīt think he has any interest to go through that legal nightmare.

So was Diddy Kong Racing AMIRITE? and it ended up on DS.

However, if they would get Goldeneye, they would make a great profit
1000 points isn't that much for one of the greatest N64 games and people who played the game back in the days would definately download it in an instant.

That is because Nintendo owns the rights to Diddy Kong Racing.

Frankly, I'm glad we'll see neither of them on Virtual Console. Makes for a better chance of an enhanced release on the XBL Arcade.

You know it! Yeah I agree totally with that. I'm tired of buying games, that are rehashed and re-released from the original and just end up sucking from the original ones. I mean look at OoT the VC got a 8.9 from Gamespot, but yet the N64 version got a perfect 10. If that's not proof enough that VC isn't all that great, then I don't what is.

Re: Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the Virtual Console?

What I'm wondering is, if they port the two games over, how movement will translate to the dual-analogue setup. Since strafing was done with the C-buttons on the Nintendo 64 pads, I wonder if instead they'll tweak the control schemes to allow for dual-analogue aiming instead, where the left analogue stick strafes and moves back and forward, and the C-stick changes viewing direction. That'd make for a much more modern and interesting take on the games, and would definitely help to "de-age" them; playing both games these days really is not that much fun, in part due to the awkward controls.
