Playstation 4?

Now, I'm a curious person, so I just wanted to ask. I've been hearing and reading stuff about how Sony's planning the PS4 for sometime around 2010. Now, from what I've read, it seems to me like this was just a response to something an analyst said about how he couldn't see a PS4 in the foreseeable future, or something like that. What makes no sense to the painfuly small mind of Zeldafan1 is that I thought the PS3 was a system that was suppose to last for 10 years or so. Well, unless my calendar is wrong, 2010 is only 3 years away. So, even if he's just making a comment because of what the analyst said, it still seems ridiculous.

Thoughts? Opinions? Insults?

Yea, it is not going to happen. For every console produced and sold Sony loses a lot of money. The hardware alone is worth around $1200. So for Sony to sell the console at $600 that's a net loss of $600 per console without adding the distribution/transportation costs.

The console really won't be produced if the games are going to be the way they are now. One exclusive game and the rest were developed by third parties and are avaliable for the 360/soon to be the Wii. So the game front looks bad already for Sony, along with the average price of each game $69.99, I can't see Sony making any profit at all.

Which brings us to another point. With no profit, this puts Sony in hole with developers to produce their games. With no games, the system will die. Anticipation for a console to be released in just three years after the PS3 is absurd.

With only 409,153 consoles sold and the Wii and 360 are in the millions, I don't see Sony lasting long at all. Too expensive of console for the average gamer, and many losses of money for producing.

No, they lose 250$ thank you very much. That said you can't arrive at an absurd conclusion in your analysis.

EDIT: Games are priced at 59.99$ not 69.99$ another reason you can't arrive at such proposterous(Sp) conclusions. Because your information is incorrect.

Oh, I'm sorry, I was just restating what my knowledge was and what i have read. I wasn't exactly sure how much they lost, but I still agree with everything else.

You have to take into account that the PS3 had a limited amount of units shipped (while the Wii had a much lagers amount of units shipped; thus more units were sold for the Wii). The PS3 is currently sold out. So it isn't really fair to compare the two consoles when a much larger amount of units were shipped for the Wii.

Isn't it a little early to already begin deciding who's going to "fail" in the "console wars?"

The 360 had a year's head start,and the Wii has had a decent shipment of supplies.The PS3's sales could be more of a general lack of goods then people not buying it.I can't find it anywhere,and nobody seems to carry enough(At launch my local Best Buy said they would only carry 21 consoles at launch,as opposed to the Wii's 91.)

I say it's WAY too early to think about the Next generation consoles.This one has barely gotten started.Rumours,I say.

Though I plan to wait to Get a PS3.With the exception of Resistance, there isn't much else I want on it. I'll wait fora price drop,then I'll play Metal Gear Solid 4,Devil May Cry 4, among others.

I'm not about the console wars, I'm about playing games.

Well, they claimed that the PS1 lasted ten years, though, apparently, they were refering to how long they produced it, including the two years the PS2 came around. (PS1 was 1993 to 2001, right?) They've said something similar about the PS2, I think- that it can last ten years, which means it still has five years to go. Similar reasoning can be used with the PS3- yeah, the PS4 will be coming out to compete with the next Microsoft/Nintendo offerings (unless Sony believes they can replicate Nintendo's current "last-gen" trick), but that won't stop the PS3 from continuing production alongside it.

Granted, this is based on information I may have misheard, but I think that there is no way Sony will not launch another system in five or six years. Not sure about that 2010 estimate, though...

Honestly that is the gist of a comment they made a few weeks ago. Not the origional comment of "our games will cost less then 100$"

What have to accept is 600$ is the price of the basic console, the core version per se, after you buy all the nescessaries, larger HD so on so forth, the price comes nearer to 1000$.

Now that ladies and gentleman is the cost price of the console, after that you can add on local taxes.

Next the games, if any moron thinks they are going to be selling blu-ray disc games for less than 80$... frankly where did you learn your economics?

I doubt Sony Entertainment is going to make it past Q3 of the nest year with anything less 2.5B losses... after that... well they will bite the dust

Sony will still be there, just on in the console or video games industries. They are still number one in many electronic categories like TVs, DVD Players, Cam Corders, and others.

Hence why I said... ohh right sry, what I meant by Sony Entertainment was the gaming branch of the company. Sorry to all who may have misinterpreted that.

Actually, the basic version is $500 and the premium is $600. By HD you mean hard drive, correct? The basic comes with a 20GB Hard Drive and the premium comes with a 60GB Hard Drive. Unless your storing a bunch of movies onto your Hard Drive; there's no way you can fill up the entire Hard Drive with just music and game files alone.

That's a highly speculative theory (considering the fact that the PS3 only came out a month ago).

... hang on it 'comes out just a month ago', I mean I make big mistakes when witing... but claiming to travel through time and remake the language as I see fit is not one of them.

The Xbox sells games at the same price. So just because the PS3 and Xbox 360 sell games $10 more then Wii, it means that both systems will fail? I hardly doubt it.

Often happens to me too, just felt threatened and posted what I thought might hit hardest!

Hmm for record... not everyone lives in America and deals in dollars ok?
