Re: Company mascots/characters
Microsoft:
Trust me, those are all parts of the PS2 cast. Though they are not exclusive anymore, they are still very much associated with the PS2, especially Crash and Snake. I know that there are more that I mentioned, but they're more minor. However, your point is valid (except for Mr. Game and Watch, he isn't really a mascot). This is only because Sony and Microsoft are much less dependant on 1st-party titles than Nintendo, who in the past, has had little but 1st-party support. It's only really now that we're seeing some, and it's being declinging more and more as of late. |

Re: Company mascots/characters
Sony wanted to have Crash as their mascot, but htat bombed pretty much, especially after PS1. The closest thing Sony has had is really, Lara Croft, but considering her recent failur, and the fact that Eidios let her onto N0gage thats gone. Odds ar ethat they will work on Jak and Daxter from now on. They can also use the Kingdom hearts characters, but only if their next PS2 game isn't the last.
Microsft Really only has Master Chief as of now, as that is the game that most people associate with XBox. The DoA cast makes for not mucha s there are so many different people. I think they also tried to absorb Conker at one point, but since Rare can't get a decent game out, that won't go over well. But through history, the great mascots have been; Mario, and Sonic. Mascot wars. |

Re: Company mascots/characters
That's true. The Final Fantasy series is really a trademark of the PS2.
I know that those characters aren't PS2-exclusive, and that Crash bombed, but when you think of those characters, you always think "Oh, the PS2", never "Oh, multiplatform". And that's what a mascot really is. It doesn't have to be exclusive, but when he/she's in nearly every magazine standing next to a PS2 logo, I can't help but think that they aren't a mascot. |

Mario, need I say more? People will always support these chars, but no one gives a crap about faceless mascots like Crash or Jak and Daxter. The key to creating a good mascot is always appeal. People can equate Mario to Nintendo easily. Mario is red, the Nintendo logo is red. That small, but important detail works on a psychological level. Sonic is blue, the Sega logo is blue. I also think Master Chief is a pretty good X-Box (Microsoft) mascot. He's green, X-Box is green. Also the fact that their launch games were all a success, and are very good contributes much they appeal to fans. Crash had a good game, but it was nothing ground breaking. Not on the same level as Sonic or Mario. |

Re: Company mascots/characters
Sony has no real mascot, and I hesitate to call Master Chief a mascot for Microsoft either.
This is one area where Nintendo has a distinct advantage over it's compititors. Not that is does them much good.
