Wii internet connection

So yes, it will connect to a wireless connection, right? And what if you don't have a wireless modem/rouder, then what...? I'm worried.

Then you'll have buy a Wii LAN adapter, then connect it with an Ethernet wire to whatever you use (router, modem, computer, etc.).

Re: Wii internet connection

You have several options if you do not currently have any wireless internet connection.

You can buy a Nintendo Wifi-USB adapter, that will guarantee that both your Wii and DS can access the internet. You can also get an Ethernet/USB adapter from somewhere and use that.
Finally, you could buy a wireless router.

So I can just put one of these suckers in the USB slot, then just simply plug in a cat-5?

I'm note sure if the Wii will work with that. Nintendo will have an official product, but that might work the same.

Re: Wii internet connection

Well, since the topic is sort of at hand, I've got a question that has to do with the wireless internet of the Wii/DS. I have a DSL connection, if I were to get one of the WiFi-USB adapters, would it work with it?

And, can it be connected to any kind of wireless internet conection, say one set up at the local coffee shop or something?

Re: Wii internet connection

Your DS should work with any open wireless network. There are some networks(in airports mainly) that look open but really arn't open at all. To better answer the question I would need a picture of the back of a Wii so I can see what kinds of ports it has. Your best bet at home if you don't have a wireless router would be to use the Nintendo USB wifi adaptor which should work with any PC thats hooked up to the internet (provided you install the correct software first). I dunno about macs though, never owned a mac so I know nothing about them.

So basically you're saying the computer connected to the net will act as a source of the internet that the Wii will feed off of via this 'usb wifi adaptor'?

Yeah pretty much like that. I'm not really sure though if the Wii will be compatible for DSL or Dial-up. But as Mython Anon it should go somewhere along the lines of that.

The Wii isn't compatible with Dail-Up; it is with DSL though (as well as obviously Cable internet).

Oh well sorry, I didn't exactly know the exact specs on this. I've been behind on things thanks to my inactiveness for 2 weeks.

As for the discussion. I think if you can't get a wireless router the Nintendo USB port is probably one of the best options. It's affordable and has a better chance of adeqaute conncection. And is only for Wii and DS, which is like an internal WEP key sort of.

Well if you ask me the Nintndo USB is the best option.

I'm pretty positive that only works for the DS and the DS Lite.

Will the wii work with that adapter? I have heard it will not.

I recall Nintendo saying that it would, in fact, work. I don't remember where I read that, though.

Re: Wii internet connection

Im confused here, could someone help me out? I'm planning on getting a wii the day it comes out. I currently have dsl and it isn't a wireless hookup. Could I buy a wireless router and would everything be wireless? Like I wouldnt have to buy anything for my wii, it could just amazingly access the internet? For some reason I'm thinking the wii cant just do that, so could someone help me?

The Wii has built-in Wi-Fi, so it's simple to connect to the internet (of course, only if you have a wireless router); no strings attached (as long as you have it properly installed). Just make sure your router is configured that it allows the Wii to gain access to it.

Re: Wii internet connection

There really shouldn't be any issue there. Buy a router that supports 802.11b or 802.11g wifi from a good company , hook it up to your PC, and that should be that.
