Tales of Symphonia

What are your thoughts on the game? I think it looks awesome with its fast paced Golden sun like action I think its gonna make the top 10 by the time it comes out.Actually its was first in the most sold game in Japan, The aqua green gamecube that went with it probably helped alot.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

Well, I agree that the game will be great, but there are some things in your post I disagree with.

Fast paced Golden Sun like action? Since when is Golden Sun fast paced?

And actually, I think that the game helped the green GCN to sell, not the other way around. This game actually helped Cube's of all colors when it came out. I doubt it will have the same effect over here, but I know I'll sure as hell buy it. An original RPG on the Cube that promises a good storyline? I'll have to play it to believe it.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

Yeah it's definately on my list too, I'm so hyped up for it enough though I don't know anything about it really. Does anybody know what the release date might be?
If you want to have a look at it then search www.gametrailers.com for their uber-TOS trialer.
I've been hearing interesting things about the battle system too.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

It's going to be a phenominal RPG. Don't ever compare it to Golden Sun

Re: Tales of Symphonia

The battle system is the same as Tales of Phantasia, except 3D.

I hope that the game is filled with comical conversations like ToP was. I'll always remember the hilarious boat scene...

Re: Tales of Symphonia

Actually, they also included the "face chat" system, where one (main character) can engage in convosations in the world map, at any time, and talking about anything they want to

But I do wish that the dialogue is as funny and as IN JOO FACE as the Dejap translation

Tales of Symphonia takes place in a world named Silvaland, which is imperiled by a lack of mana--the source of all life. The main character is a boy named Lloyd Irving, who attends school with his friend Collet Brunel, a shaman. According to legend, a shaman can save the world from its sufferings by becoming an angel. So, Collet goes on a journey to become a savior. Lloyd and their friend Genius Sage accompany her on her mission, but little by little, the party discovers that things aren't exactly what they seem to be. The party soon discovers that there is an alternate world named Tesseala and that their mana is being shared between the two worlds so that the prosperity of one means the decline of the other.

The battle system is also revised, and I think you now set paths of attack for the other characters and you actually control any one of them. (eg. Your controlling Lloyd, and you can set paths for the rest) You can also interrupt the flow of the battle, just to revise your plan of attack. Combonation techs are also a new feature. Lets say someone uses Senkureppa, and your main character uses Majinken, you can initiate a combo technique Ougi Majinsenkureppa.

And all I can say about the battles is: Wow. So many techniques, all sound extremely cool, lights flying everywhere, all on a single battlefield. I just wish that they'd keep the original Japanese names for them

There is also character development, and certain events can affect how your characters stand. People can also feel left out and threaten to leave etc.

They also have an excellent team of artists, character designers and animators on the job. They have artists from literally everywhere, including GAINAX The FMVs (or mini anime cut-scenes) are animated by the same guys that did Zoids (I think...).

Music is also another things to be listening out for. Day After Tomorrow's "Starry Heavens" is the opening theme for it.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

I was talking about "Face Chat", its when portraits of the characters talking come up on the screen and they yap back and forth, revealing bits of the plot or little bits of trivia.

And no, its not online

Re: Tales of Symphonia

I somewhat played Tales of Phantasia, although not extensively. The battle system was really awesome.

This should, along with Garmon(sp?) Battle and Baten Kaitos, should fill the gap of Cube's RPG-hollowness.

No what I meant was the game looked fast paced and the action/characters look like they are all from Golden sun.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

I sure hope not. Golden Sun's characters sucked... But I remain very hopeful for this game. When it came out in Japan, I heard that Famitsu was very impressed with its story and characters.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

When is the NA release for this game?

It seems like a good game so, naturally, I'll be looking into it.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

Except it will only be one RPG, as opposed to a ton on the PS2. Sure, a good RPG is nice to (finally) have on the Cube, but it's just like the recent sales gains on Nintendo's part; they're encouraging, but that doesn't mean that they'll catch Sony.

Re: Tales of Symphonia

Unless Namco plans to port all "Tales of" games to the Gamecube and release them to the west (and the rest of the world), which seems very unlikely considering very few people even know of the series exists.

After the game, what I want to get next is the Official Character Art book
