Mario&Luigi

I bought this game yesterday at Walmart, kinda just so that I could get the Zelda Collectors disk, but lucky me it turned out to be an awsome game. The animation is very fluid, works great. The battle system works good, although I'm still having trouble getting the "brother attacks" nailed down. And as always the music just fits perfectly with the situation, I'm assuming that Koji Kondo was behind it, who else would be. Anyway who else has played it?

Anyone from Alphadream with a copy of Cakewalk?

I highly recommend the game. It's definitely one of the funnier Mario games in recent years, particularly in its treatment of Luigi. The actual gameplay is for the most part rock solid, with slight complaint for awkward judgment of enemy collision outside of battle. The actual area graphics are often over-simplistic, but the actual character sprites are so varied that it's easy to ignore.

Probably the most worthwhile GBA-unique RPG available at the moment.

Re: Mario&Luigi

Spoil my fun why don't ya, anyway. Yeah the whole thing with Luigi is great. Yeah I seem to end up knocking the back person into the guy when I try to jump on him, so usually I just make them both jump. The "world map" if you will, is pretty lacking most of the time, but like you said considering all the other stuff, it is easy to sweep under the rug. If you have $30 and a GBA(or GBASP or GBP) and if you like the Mario Bros. then get this game, you have no reason not to.

Re: Mario&Luigi

And if you played Paper Mario (N64) or Mario RPG:Legend of the Seven Stars (snes). Like those two, this game is an RPG. I loved those other two games, I beat Legend of the Seven Stars, but only got about half way through Paper Mario. I am going to get this game for sure. It has the same basic battle system as the other two Mario RPG's. Which, personally, I LOVED. This game is a must have GBA game...

Re: Mario&Luigi

I'll check it out, but I won't get it. Remember, I don't like RPGs.

IMO any RPG game could easily sell, because of the strange RPG hunger.

Re: Mario&Luigi

Yeah that's true, especially if you make it D&D looking slap some semi unique spin on it, and package it up for 50 bucks. It's pitiful.
But this game is great, you otta atleast play it Will.

Re: Mario&Luigi

I have to agre with KamikazeCow on this one, William. While Mario & Luigi is an RPG, it has very strong action and adventure aspects. None of the battles allow you to simply sit back and select menu options. True, you do choose your attacks from menus, but you're constantly timing button combinations, both for attack and defense.

While the plot is perhaps thicker than your average action/adventure game, it's nothing stifling. At any given point, the known plot has about the depth of any other Mario game.... with a bit more dialogue and humor.

Heck, I recommend the game based on the humor alone, for anyone with any interest in the Mario universe. It's about as funny as E-rated humor can get.

Re: Mario&Luigi

Been watching this game for a fair while and I agree that it does look really nice. The plot is a little bit stereotypical but you expect that from Mario games these days
Is there any other characters that you can control like in SMRPG?

*Goes off to download the rom, err buy the game*

Hmmm, I don't know, but since I've never played SMRPG can't say that there hasn't been clues to elude to as such, but I doubt it.

I love Paper Mario! I need this game. I wanted to rent it today but they were all out. So I rented Boktai instead. TIP: Don't get that game unless it's really sunny where you live.

Re: Mario&Luigi

See, one thing differant about this game, is when you are battleing, if you don't avoid/counter the attack on a boss, its pretty much impossible to win. One thing I dislike is how the save stations don't replenish your energy and I haven't found an inn yet.

Have you ever noticed that all 3 MarRPGs have a little, semi-boss that always runs into you at the worst times? In MRPG you had the periwinkle Croc theif (can't remember name) in PM u had the baby koopa in the eggshell, and now we have Popple the thief.

Just wanted to point that out.
