Its ok, I have Ł80 to spend on games. FFX is Ł20, so I can get 2 more if I wish. I probably won't spend any more on games though, unless FFX turns out to be my worst nightmare.

FFX is a lot of fun. It was very different from my first game (TP) and in some ways, I liked it more than TP.

Re: Game Recommendations V.2

Okay to save you the thread bashing I would tell you to get an Xbox 360, only because it has better titles, and a greater majority of them. I prefer the PS3 myself, but if you get a PS3 you must be patient, good titles are coming out for it, I just cant name any at the moment....

good titles for PS3 would be:

Oblivion
Dark Kingdom

but Oblivion is also on 360, but it doesnt have the bonus features likeon the PS3....but its your decision on what to do...

Re: Game Recommendations V.2

Okay. I'm not looking through every page as I'm rushing, and all that fun stuff. I should, but I won't. So, to asking.

I'm looking for a new cheap video game, other than Pokémon Diamond(I'm waiting for my birthday for that). I want it hand-held, so I could take it with me.

So, I was looking around through my three most recent Nintendo Powers (back in the time before my DS existed). And I found some games. Two of them (Starfox Command and Magical Starsign) I've bought. I searched elsewhere, too, to get other ideas. I've ended up with:

Touch Detective
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
March of the Mini Marios (or something of the like, I forgot the actual title)
Pokémon Ranger
Any Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts game (if any) for any hand-held system

My problem: I don't know what to get. Ratings I've seen were very opinionated (about the music, for example), except for length. I love the sound of the Mario game (Lemmings was a fun game). I love Zelda, and getting these three games nearly completes my collection, and Pokémon Ranger is a break from the other games, and also Touch Detective... I've always liked solving puzzles and such.

So, I'm asking for your opinions on each game, if you have any. Gameplay, length, difficulty, etc.

Are you sure Lair came out on June 23rd? If I recall it's due for September.

The Minish Cap- short and easy, but very fun and creative items and boss battles, only like 5 dungeons though...

Link's Awakening- kind of long, medium difficulty, I thought it was kind of meh, 9 dungeons

A Link to the Past- Long, pretty hard, haven't beaten it but so far it's pretty cool, started out the whole Master Sword thing, has like 11 dungeons I think...

(Haven't played either of the next two)

For Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, I would suggest FF3 for DS or KH: Chain of Memories is for GBA; FF3 is long and challenging like most FF games, but for me is a bit frustrating at times

Chain of Memories is a good game about medium length (especially if you play Reverse/Rebirth mode after you beat it as Sora) and I thought it was really fun, but only if you can get into the card battle system

Re: Game Recommendations V.2

I just got $100 for my birthday from my mother.

This afternoon I saw Harry Potter (4th game) for both the Play Station and the Wii; but then I recalled hearing that games made based on movies were typically mediocre. Could anybody please comment on that? And if the game is good, which platform should I buy it for? There's a price difference, but if the Wii-mote makes for good gameplay, I might rather get that version.

The game series that I like are LOZ and FF. Is there another series, just as fun, and similiar in style or gameplay that you would recommend? I prefer newer games, though -- so if it's a long-standing series, I would buy a game that's pretty much standalone.

Thoughts?

Out of my experiences, most games based on movies are in fact mediocre (at best in most cases); there are however few exceptions. The Harry Potter game series isn't an exception. I've played the first and fourth one; I was dissatisfied to say the least. . .

Apparently the game bases the gameplay around "cleaning Hogwarts" for some reason. I'm pretty sure this game doesn't have a reviewed, rated score no higher then 7.0 on all the major review sites (Gamespot, IGN, GameInformer, etc.).

If it's an RPG you're looking for, I'd definitely recommend Elder Scroll's IV: Oblivion. The game is completely and utterly massive in every RPG element you can think of -- it's the definition of an RPG.

The graphics are fantastic, the sheer size of the overworld is huge, the story is great, there are plenty of side-quests that will keep you playing for a while, there are even a couple of expansion packs you can download that add even more to the already massive game (the Shivering Isles expansion pack is 30 hours of gameplay alone), the game easily has at least 150 hours of gameplay.

In short, it's perhaps one of the greatest games ever; it's a must-have.

Oh, I see. I was also thinking that a game based on a movie based on a book was probably a bad idea anyway. Too many times removed.

:XD

We have Oblivion. I'm afraid that the game is too graphic for me. The zombies kind of gave me nightmares. Seriously.

I need something less realistic.

I think the movies are alright. Although I've yet to dedicate some time to read the books. I think I've only read half-way through Chamber of Secrets =/.

Don't worry, that's understandable. Unfortunately, there's a lack of new, topnotch quality RPG's out right now (as far as I know).

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the DS are supposed to be good; but I've yet to play either of them. However, both of gotten some good rep, so it should be safe to assume that they're both good games.

If you haven't picked up Final Fantasy XII yet, you should immediately do so. Just like most Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy XII is a fantastic game. The new "Gambit" command system works very well with the gameplay. Definitely worth getting (as most Final Fantasy games are). However, you probably have this game already (considering you're a FF fan).

Another great game is Odin Sphere for the PS2. The artistic, Japanese-style graphics are great and very original (or at least it definitely leaves that impression). It gives game a sense of surrealism -- so to speak. The gameplay is simple, yet complex at the same time. It's hard to explain (although I don't really want to spoil anything for you). I only rented though, so I can't give a full impression of the game. However, I'd definitely want to own it in the near future, since it's an instant classic (in my book that is).

God of War II (although it isn't an RPG) is good, but you say you don't like graphic games -- this game is the epitome of 'graphic' (in a blood related sense) -- so. . .

Besides those RPG's, there isn't much new out in the gaming market right now. The only RPG I can think of right that's coming out soon that's supposed to be really good is Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360. I believe it comes out sometime in August. You should keep an eye on that game -- if you haven't already.

What consoles do you own exactly?

This one I haven't heard of. I'll look around and see if I can find an ad for it; like you said, though, I've got to watch out for spoilers. I am one of those people that likes to be surprised.

I've seen this in the store. It looks somewhat interesting, but if I can avoid the graphic stuff, I'd rather do that. A game that I started but didn't end up playing is Prince of Persia on Wii; the whole slow-motion-stabbing-with-Wii sort of made me uncomfortable. I'm sure I'll play it eventually, but not until I've exhausted the other games we have (e.g., FFVIII, FFIX).

Wii, PS3, and a DS. I would rather not get any DS games, though, since I've been neglecting ALttP (stuck in ice dungeon) and if I pick up the DS at all, I should really finish playing that Zelda game.

Most of the games that we've been getting are either for the Wii or are PS2 games; PS2 games made after 2002 are probably fine graphics-wise for me.

I played Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban and liked both. If you can find the new game cheap then I'll recommend it. You always have enough for one more game at least.

But the storyline is boring if you have read the books.

EDIT: I just read the above post. Its not new but its still my favourite ever game, Tales of Symphonia. You can play that on a Wii right?

Its got the best storyline I have ever played, with nice cel shaded graphics and so many twists. it's brilliant.
Its very long too.
