Buyer Beware

I was at Wal Mart today and bought this thing called "gamechanger" for the GBASP. And the thing about it was that I could plug my SP into it, then plug 3 games into it's slots, then with a little toggle switch on the side I would be able to switch between games with the power off. Anyway it doesn't give you many details, because they don't want you to know that it isn't compatible with any games but Advance games, which isn't that big of a deal. But the big problem was that it erased all the files on my Metroid Fusion Cartridge, which isn't the end of the world since it was just Fusion, but I don't want it erasing all my other GBA games, so I took it back. Guess that's what I get for buying a product not made by Nintendo, shame on me *slaps hand* So if you cherish your save files, don't buy this thing!

Re: Buyer Beware

First of all, there is no freature on that product to make it worth the money.

Second of all, it is total crap.

Third of all, all third-party stuff is total crap.

Those two posts = ingorant!

I agree that a lot of third party stuff is very stupid but definately not all of it. I much prefer my third party Tru Blu GCN controller over the official Nintendo ones, as they have a habit of getting wobbly faster. Also they don't fit as snugly into your hands.
My friend has a third party memory pak for his N64 and it can hold over three times as much as the official one. Third party does not always suck!

But it can. Like Kamakaze Cows little GBA thingy, also like my ac/dc adapter for the GB/GBC. I bought a third party one after my Nintendo one's cord broke. It's output voltage is way too high and I can only play the GBC for about 10 minutes before it overheats and turns itself off O_o

Re: Buyer Beware

Yes, there are some half-decent ones, but ultimately, they will fail. I have the same third-party memory card as your friend, I think (twice the size as the official one, right), and I've had the data erased on me numerous times for no reason whatsoever, and I constantly have to repair damaged data. The third-party controllers are also very bad most of the time. I've tried third-party GCN controllers, and generally, there are three problems - bad sticks, bad grip, and bad shoulder buttons. They also don't take nearly as much punishment, and don't last for very long.

But then again, there is some good third-party stuff. However, it's the ones that imitate the official ones that are always horrible.

Re: Buyer Beware

No I don't think you do have the same one, his has a button on the back of it which changes between the three cards that it actually holds I think.

And I know that the majority of it is pretty poor. Controllers ecspecially but the Tru Blu one that I own is great IMO
Memory Cards/Paks are usually better than the official ones (if they don't delete your data) because they do the same thing at half the price

Re: Buyer Beware

You wanna know something. I've had my nintendo cards bug out on me for no good reason. One 59, dead(wont work, period, I dissected it though, had some fun, also gave myself a nasty cut, but this is going a bit off subject). My 251 would randomly erase or corrupt itself, and it happened once to my new 59. Seriously, altough i still hold N-made stuff in higher regard, I dont hold it as highly. I've cede that ive had bad luck, but i have a somewhat sour taste left on my mouth. I flat out dont trust these cards anymore. Believe, losing all of that Smash Brothers info, right after earning it, not fun. I had virtually everthing unlocked, save some trophies. I had Luigis Mansion with 50/50 boos, just gearing up for the last boss. I'll never get there again probably.

Re: Buyer Beware

Yeah my interact memory card(holds like 16 times what the 59 does) got corrupted once, erased everything, not to disapointing though. Another time though when I was playing BatmanDarkTomorrow(rented, thank goodness) it told me it was corrupted, so I immediatly turned my cube off. Thankfully it didn't erase my files, so I quit playing BDT right then and there, but also because it stunk anyway.

Re: Buyer Beware

Hey now lets keep this a peaceful, and flameless discussion about 3rd party products. No need to rip each other apart for silly reasons.

Re: Buyer Beware

I don't see any flaming going on. Obviously, l-o-s isn't meaning any offense at all.

It's true, Nintendo's products are not perfect, but they are certainly better than most of the third-party garbage that pops up. Bobslob, either you've had a case of bad luck, or there is something wrong with your GameCube. Perhaps you could try to use the second slot rather than the first, and see if there are any problems. Most games should check both slots for memory cards.

Re: Buyer Beware

Oh maybe not yet X, but there certainly is possibility given the nature of the subject. I'm just trying to do a bit of a pre emptive strike if you will. No one is flaming, yet..............

Re: Buyer Beware

rrrrrrrrright

I didn't mean any disrespect to l-o-s or SearanoX, just pointing out that although the majority of the cheapy 3rd Party products are unreliable there is still a lot of decent things out there on the market.

No company has ever produced a worse analog stick than that found on the official N64 controller. Not all of Nintendo's products are unilaterally better than third-party products.

I've owned many third-party devices. Only one of them was truly unsatisfactory. The majority of my console memory cards are third party, and in the past I've owned several third party controllers and adapters. The only unsatisfactory product was a really bad Interact Dreamcast memory card. Oh well, they're gone now.

Heck, there are occasions when third-parties produce vastly superior products, such as "back in the day" with ASCII and their SNES controllers, or the Fountech AirStyle controller for the PS2 that not only trumps the traditional PS2 controller, but outdoes Nintendo's Wavebird in terms of wireless functionality and features. For the Gameboy Advance, the Afterburner provided variable lighting with full installation, unlike the GBA SP. Heck, it was Interact's 16x Gamecube memory card (which works flawlessly) that made Nintendo's own flawed memory manager known. Perhaps another reason we still haven't seen the SD adapter?

Many third-party products simply do a very passable job. My Interact System Selector is a dream. Gamester's Flood Light worked like a dream with my old normal GBA. InterAct's Mobile Monitor performs perfectly. Heck, some third-party products work well enough that the first-parties are willing to support them; Take Nyko's PS2 controllers for example.

And heck, every single one of my perfectly working yet ancient PSX memory cards is third-party.

Everyone just needs to lay off the mean stereotypes.

Re: Buyer Beware

I believe that 3rd party items suck but if they are able to hold 16x the memory you should buy it (i did) that way you can lose 16x as much data when your memory card goes through the washing machine.

eeeee!!!
