Final Fantasy XII - Details Revealed

The two main characters are Van (male) and Ashe (female). Main character designer is not Tetsuya Nomura though, it's Akihiko Yoshida (designer of Vagrant Story and FF TA). Seems that there would be a new battle system too.

It's slated for a release in April of 2004.

looks a lot like ffx. i guess thats expected since most ff games looked the same for all those years.

Hmm It is definetely different to the others. The character designs are a bit wierd but could turn out alright. I hope that it doesn't differ to much to its precedents though.

I thought the characters looked like FFT.
Ashe doesnt look all that bad though, Ashe is a bit of a lame name, but she looks pretty cool. Van looks okay, but nothing too special. That thing behind Van, scares me. I LOATHE the races in FFTA, (except Viera) so seeing a bangaa has me worried that concept will contue on in FFXII. Based on sight alone, the battle system looks alot like FFX, but thats just based on those 2 pics in that collage. Lastly, that chocobo (upper-left) looks evil. What happened to the cute little guys from FF's of past?

P.S. I hope Uematsu is working on the soundtrack this time around. I heard he was....can anyone confirm that?

Wow, the only thing that interests me is the very hot looking girl that looks like that other girl... What's her name again...

Maybe it's just the pose she's in, but that girl seems horribly ugly to me.

It looks like a mix of FFTA, FFX and FFIX. The girls looks deformed in the face and the chocobo does look a bit evil. But it looks interesting and I want to know more.

Now that I think about it, Ashe looks like something out of Crystal Chronicles. She has that same roundness to her face; the nose the eyes....it looks alot like CC.

And that release date is for Japan. Based on the past, Im guessing we wont see it 'til this time next year. But hey, FFX-2 comes out in the states on the 18th, only 3 more days!

Yay a girl with a sword, how cool. At gamespot they also translated her name as Arche, but who knows yet.

I wonder what weapon Van has, in the battle pic it looks like his holding fire??

Someone said her face looks demented, it could be just the angle, remember they are only CG's.

:::shrugs::: there's a great "article" somewhere on the internet (i want to say 1-up.com, but can't for sure), about how all the final fantasy characters since ffVII are exactly the same... which, since i've played more than one PS FF game, i can definately agree with...

i see no difference between these characters and any other protagonists... all i really want to know, at the moment, is what those shield things on their arms in the bottom-left picture are...

The pirate is the magazines mascot, or some such thing.

Wow , the release date is really sooner than i thought it would be, they must be very far along witht he development of it. The characters look undefined at the moment, that is except for
Ashe's breasts(being completely serious), her face is flat, and the skirt is obvious of the latest movement of FF to make the characters....eh... asthetically pleasing.... in a way to be more so to teenage boys perhaps. She really looks like tshe could through on rollerblades lose some polygons and fit right into Vice City. =/ The 'evil' guy looks like ganondorf.

The shields are probaly no more than simple upgradeable shield that are now defined through a visual change in the character. i sense, very heavy emphasis on flight, Panzer Dragoon stuyle, and the ability to change the character clothing outside of their jobclasss clothing.

I'm surprised you didn't elaborate on that statement at all...

And while I agree that this dude definitely looks way too much like Tidus, and the girl looks too much like Yuna, but other than that, I disagree with andi's statement. FF9 had the best cast of characters in any game ever. Vivi? Steiner? Quina? Those were some excellent examples of unique characters.

And I liked races in FFTA, even though their implementation was terrible. Give it a more than miniscule bearing on the plot! Give each race its own politics, culture.

Hmm, more news. The Magic Box says that this game will actually take place in Ivalice, hence explaining the other races. I don't know whether this is a good thing or not. Between this, and the fact that the game is supposed to be "different from any other FF that we've ever played", I'm a bit worried that this will be another FF:CC. The only comforts for me are the pictures of the battles (which look like normal FF style battles) and some beautiful scenes that must be story scenes.

EDIT: Just noticed another pic, but this one bothered me. It shows one character on screen, and with his battle info on it. What scared me was it still had the map on it. Now I'm a bit worried...
