Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

Get Guild Wars. It is the best, by far. Star Wars Galaxies has been nerfed by it's developers. If you joined, it would be a waste of perfectly good money! Do not encourage such heresy! Money is good!

Give EverQuest II a shot. Here's a free trial.

City of Heroes is also good (haven't played Villains). I have Guild Wars, but I really can't get myself into it.

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

I think you should either get Guild Wars, Star Wars Galaxies, or World of Warcraft, or get all three if possible. I know Guild Wars is free online unlike World of Warcraft and I don't know if you have to pay to play online for Star Wars Galaxies.

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

I would check out FlyFF. It prolly isnt as good as Everquest or Guild Wars (infact, I know it isnt), but its pretty damn great for a free MMO and I don't have that thing called "money". Anyway, if you decide to get a paying one, check out FlyFF just for fun. Another free one that you might wanna check out is Project Entropia. It has a real world based economy in which you can transfer money in and OUT of the game at your will.

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

Don't play Flyff, I had a bad expierience with it. If you do play Flyff though... don't try and become a mage, that quest is broken, at least it was for me and I could never finish it.

I think after awhile you'll find World of Warcraft far superior to any other MMORPG you've played. It is well worth the monthly fee.

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

Just quickly, the following are ones you shouldn't get, no matter what:
Star Wars Galaxies (SoE recently ruined it, it's boring, repetitive, has no redeeming qualities at all...)
Matrix Online (Same as SWG)
Everquest (Same as SWG)
Dark Age of Camelot (Just plain boring)

You should only get FFXI if you plan on spending all of your free time getting good at it, it's a surprisingly elitist game.

Which leaves WoW and GW up for debate. There's another thread that already addresses the differences between the two.

GW has no monthly fee, 2 million people who play it, far better PvP, less grind, runs faster, and is far more dynamic. It also allows you to warp to any town you've been to before, free of charge, and every time you leave a town you and your party get your own instance. Any character can meet any other character, you aren't limited by what server or region you started yours in.

On the downside: The only PvP is in arenas, so you don't get to just wander around and kill other players (I personally see this as good, but whatever.), if it does lag it'll lag very badly. You can't jump.

WoW has 6 million people playing it, a far longer PvE experience, and non-arena PvP.

On it's downside you have the fact that it has a monthly fee, gets updates less often then GW, has inferior PvP, doesn't let you warp anywhere you've been free of charge, you have to compete with other people farming mobs that you really want. You can, however, meet people outside of town, which might be an advantage, although I didn't find it to be one. It also has far more repetitive grind and less of a story then GW.

Edit: And I overlooked CoH/CoV, I know nothing about them, so I can't really comment on them.

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

he i posted a thread on this because i couldn't decide between WoW or Guildwars a LONGGGGG time ago. well i would have to say either WoW or city of heroes/villans. i have a friend that plays both and he says CoH/CoV is one of the best games he has ever played. i would go with CoH/CoV. Its fun to fly around too

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

The WoW players are actually less than 6 million. Blizzard say "6 million" because they count in-active players. The GW players are based on who's active rather than sales figures, so it is more accurate.

Plus the Guild Wars population is growing quickly- I hear it grew 1 million in a month.

That may or may not be the case, but even if it isn't, the only separation to GW players is what region you're in, and that's not really a limit as you can still go to other regions. Which essentially means that you have one server of 2 million people, as opposed to 20 servers, each of which has 300 000 people.

Re: Which MMORPG should I get?

Lineage II.

2nd most played online MMORPG cannot be wrong.

Fantasy based, runs off of the Unreal Engine 2, and has a load of classes individual to each race.

Have to pay monthly though, unless you want to play private (although comes with it's downsides).

I'm more of an action, fighting guy, so i advise you purchase Matrix online, it's totally hardcore , and also the gameplay is awesome.
