Metroid Prime: Corruption

I'm sure if you are a Metroid fan and you did research on the Wii, you knew this game was coming. This is going to be the final game of the Prime subseries, and I'm actually happy about that. Finally the plot can move on from Metroid Fusion... if the new Metroid Dread doesn't first.

Anyway, what do you want and expect for this game. I seriously hope that Kraid is in it. A MetaKraid would be perfect for the first Wii Metroid and the last Prime game.

Re: Metroid Prime: Corruption

I'm not sure about a MetaKraid, but I am looking forward to its release. For the Wii, I hope it has better graphics, although the Gamecube ones were breathtaking as well. As for the Prime subseries, I agree that a third game should be its end. Although then again, I am sad because the Prime series would be over.

Meta-Kraid, yo.

Well, technically not, since that's a Metroid Prime screenshot, but hopefully he'll look something like that. Despite the fact that
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
Ridley and Dark Samus
are in it, Kraid would be an interesting addition to the line-up.

Re: Metroid Prime: Corruption

Well, I've played a few Metroid games. I've finished hunters, and I am playing the first prime at the moment. Wish I could of gotten in to the series earlier. Anyway, I guess the primes are a good place to start.

I'm looking forward to Corruption as well. A Meta-Kraid would definitely look cool in the new game. But I'm more interested in how the gameplay would work. It's going to be cool...

Re: Metroid Prime: Corruption

I am a big fan of the Metroid series, and I have already played and beaten Metroid Prime 1 and 2. I'm looking forward to Corruption, and what it holds in store for us Metroid Fans. There is going to be alot of new weapons and items, like a visor where you could call Samus's ship to move heavy loads in your path.

Since there is going to be alot of space travel in Corruption, I wouldn't mind if there was a space battle, where you could control Samus's ship and fight in space with it. At least one or 2 of those.

Re: Metroid Prime: Corruption

I honestly can't wait for this game, but I hope that it doesn't suffer from being a launch title. The game seemed to be in relatively good shape during E3, but considering the controls hadn't been ironed down and the graphics were not up to the bar set by the developer (and those aspects are often the first that are finalised during game development), it may end up suffering from its Wii transition. If they can iron out the controls and get the game looking a bit less like a GameCube game with bloom lighting, then I'll be a happy camper.

It also makes more sense to just get rid of the Prime title altogether now, because with a new platform and new gameplay styles should come new branding... or at least, that's how it works in my mind.

Down with the Super Mario World up with the Super Mario 64, right?

Many agree with you though. It's time the Prime series met it's end.

The question is, it's end in name only, or it's permanent end? I've seen people advocating both. I, personally, liked the older Metroids better, but that's just because I'm not really an FPS fan and Prime is, more then anything else, an FPS series.

Re: Metroid Prime: Corruption

I think this game looks great. I was at first worried about the controls based on the demo-videos, but then when I heard about the Expert Control option, all my worries about the gameplay vanished. If they touch up the graphics a bit more, and work on some of the Wiimote actions, I'll be happy. This seems like it'll be a big way for the Prime trilogy to end with.

Re: Metroid Prime: Corruption

Personally, I'm not that hyped.
First up, Dark Samus is getting Stale - the SA-X was fun, but milking it is getting tiresome.

Also, I'm getting worried that with all these complex storylines and characters, the main premise of the games is forgotton - the Metroids!

We've only seen Larval Metroids so far in the Prime series, which is dissapointing considering how they mutate and evolve from Alphas to Omegas.

Image a Wii-Omega Metroid, twoering three times' Samus height?

By going overly complx, like with this new Purple Girl we've seen, I honestly feel some important things are getting forgotten.

I'd have to disagree with you, SD. I will argree that it would have been nice if there had been more metroids in the previous games of the Prime series. However, I think Corruption would be seriously lacking if Dark Samus was left out. Dark Samus was, in my opinion, the only part of Echoes that made it stand out from Metroid Prime 1. The unknown details alone call for her - assuming Dark Samus is indeed female - return. I'm actually hoping that she's the main foe this time around.

Personally, I preferred Dark Samus to SA-X. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think it was the way she was introduced into the game. You don't know who she is or where she came from, as we do for SA-X. We will eventually know, I'm sure, but we were left guessing as the game ended.

As for my thoughts on Corruption itself, I'm looking forward to it. I wouldn't be disappointed if the graphics were identical to that of Echoes, because Echoes's graphics were spectacular. I'm not specifically familiar with the Wii's capabilities, but I can't really imagine how they intend to improve the graphics. Aside from adding a bit of extra clarity to distant backgrounds, there's really not much to improve upon. I actually appreciated the backgrounds, though.

The Wiimote is really what's exciting me, though. I'm assuming that aiming will rely on motion sensing. If this proves to be true, the results could be mind blowing. The controls for Prime 1 and 2 were pretty well put together, and you could really get a feel for the game. It was one of the few games I played on the Gamecube in which I actually forgot that I was holding a controller. That's what I'm hoping for Corruption on the Wii.

I've also got certain expectations for the weapons and visors. I'm hoping for technology based items. I realized recently how childish the Light and Dark beams in Echoes were, and after playing Prime 1, I'm hoping to see more wepaons like the Wave Beam. As for visors, I'd love to see both the X-ray and Echo visors reintroduced.

I trust that Nintendo won't let us down with this one.

They revealed the origins and identity of Dark Samus long ago, but only the truly 1337 ones were able to find it out.
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
Metroid Prime didn't actually die at the end of the first game. He somehow merged with Samus' Phazon Suit and turned into Dark Samus. That was revealed in the secret ending you get for completing the first Prime 100%.

Also, I agree with SD. Except it's not the Metroids I miss. It just seems like Retro is so busy adding new features to Prime 3, they've completely forgotten what made the series so great in the first place. The feeling of isolation, original and enthralling surroundings and that undefinable golden Nintendo touch are all gone. It would help if these new features were something completely awesome, but they're all pointless and laughable.

Now, I'm not saying I hate the game. We haven't seen much of the game and the controls are looking good, but Corruption is definitely not in the same league as Prime 1. Not even close.

Since when is Prime 3 devoid of all this? I don't remember Retro saying that it'll completely revamp the Prime series. It's been said that they're be more character interaction and less back-tracking, but no one said it's completely gone. Besides, those were two aspects of Prime that got a lot of complaints, Retro's trying to correct them so that they can make a better game. Because, while Prime 1 might be the best game of this generation, and Prime 2 was great, the amount of back-tracking and the lack of character cooperation was could be an annoying feature at times.

How? The Phazon woman is ugly, and the one block character could use some work, but I fail to see how actions like riding a rail with the grappling beam, ripping out doors and an enemy's shield with the grappling beam, rebounding up back and forth between two walls, calling in your ship for back-up and one or two mega attacks are 'laughable'.

Same here. I think it'd be interesting if they made one in the third person. Technically, it could work well on the Wii. I doubt Nintendo would do something like that, but whatever. I'm just not the greatest at anything in first person.

What league was Prime 1 in?

--Devoid of storyline, aside from the very beginning--which led to pretty much zero sense of purpose.
--Boring, easy enemies--especially after you get the Wave/Ice Beams (which were way too powerful considering the stage in the game at which you acquire them), and, of course, the Plasma Beam was also ridiculously powerful.
--Nearly as boring, nearly as easy bosses (excluding Thardus--he was an interesting challenge).

but, just to be fair:

--Samus's suit was BEAUTIFUL. Same goes for her ship.
--The Wave, Ice, and Plasma Beams offered a bit of nostalgia.
--There was just the right amount of emphasis on Metroids, considering that this game supposedly takes place after Super Metroid.
--The Phazon concept, while not developed enough, was good.
--The two visors were amazing. Loved the Thermal Visor.

Prime 2 was better in some aspects:

--More of a storyline, and a better sense of purpose.
--The Dark World feature.
--More and more interesting bosses.
--More interesting environments (beyond the simple forest/jungle, fire, and ice levels).
--Added difficulty from the ammo aspect; better beam combos.
--Echo visor=yummy.

but, just to be fair:

--The Light and Dark Beams were just the Ice and Plasma Beams translated to Prime 2, with the Aether Light/Dark twist.
--The enemies seemed to mostly be recycled from Prime 1, but... looked worse. *shrugs*
--Samus' Varia suit was... ugly, to say the least. And the same goes for her beam. The Scan Visor also looked far too artificial. I preferred the Prime 1 visor.

Prime 3 has a lot of exciting aspects:

--More versatility regarding the Grapple Beam.
--Tons of storyline potential because of the new characters.
--There seems to be a pretty good control scheme (Expert controls), and the Wiimote should enhance the FPS aspect.

Quit complaining. You don't like the game, make one that's better.
