Tales of Destiny PS2

Well, here's a demo movie of your favourite underappreciated remade PSX rpg. It's got DEEN, combat footage, and a few other tidbits.

Re: Tales of Destiny PS2

This looks so good.

Tales of Destiny was the first game in the series I played, and it still remains my favourite. The only complaint I had was that the town/dungeon and overworld map designs often looked downright ugly. Heck, sometimes I think the SFC version of Tales of Phantasia looked better. The remade areas look nice.

Still, it's a great game, ridiculously underappreciated, and is definitely deserving of a remake. The original's battle system was fairly primitive compared to later games in the series, so I can't wait to see how the new one turns out. After all, it keeps getting better and better with each new instalment.

The locations I recognized made me feel really nostalgic, despite the fact that I just replayed the game two weeks ago. The voice acting sounds good, though I always thought Dymlos would sound a tad bit crazier. Stahn sounds spot on, though.

I noticed the music in the video was lifted right from the original. I really hope they redo the soundtrack for the finished game, because there were some spots that were quite lacking (and a bit annoying). For instance, some pieces were chaotic and loud. That, and I always love reworked soundtracks in remakes. Adds to the freshness.

I highly doubt this will be getting out of Japan, so it looks like I'll have to import it, and I don't have a problem with that. It would be a shame to miss out on this. Still, if Tales of the Abyss manages to do really well in North America, perhaps it will get localized. If not, I hope Ubisoft works on a PAL release.

Re: Tales of Destiny PS2

*Boo to forums deleting my posts during the down time.

My favorite part was when the video was pixalated!

It looks good. Obviously the biggest factor in the whole entire trailer is the battle footage, which of course you would expect to look good. You can't really tell how great is yet though.

I couldn't really tell because of the quality, but some of the sprites and areas just seemed really really blah and ugly. Like ToE on the PSP (sharper than a PSX game, not quite a PS2 game). Then another area would come up and completely dispel that thought in the terms of aesthetics.

One thing I am sure of however is that I'm not too fond of the sprite work for the character models. They all just look ...ugly and low quality.

That aside though, I would probably love to play the game. Looks are just that and nothing more.

So, that's where my post here went.......

I actually want this game so much! Remakes have never looked so good!

I wander if any new skills will be added?

Re: Tales of Destiny PS2

Is anybody else feeling the new tales giddyness? This game looks amazing, I've never played it before and hopefully these past few years of Tales loving means we're going to get the re-makes as well. I never realised the battles were so fast paced, for some reason I imagined them more like Phantasia.

Re: Tales of Destiny PS2

The original's battles were pretty slow, and a lot like Phantasia. From what I've heard, the new battle system focuses a lot on jumping, so expect a lot of crazy aerial chains. I also read somewhere that the battle system is actually faster than Tales of Destiny 2, which was the fastest in the series.

Oh I'm definately feeling it for Abyss. But there are so many other games to be psyched over right now that Abyss doesn't get all the lovin'.

Re: Tales of Destiny PS2

Ah, I'm so glad that they've included the DEEN song .

Unfortunately it is for PS2, so I won't be playing it .
