Wii Messenger

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...do&RS=Nintendo
This is awesome. Retro game downloads, voice/text chat, buddy list, player profiles, WiiConnect24, and an integrated web browser. This is going to be my favorite console.

Wow. That'd be great. That site is a little confusing, but it sounds good. Stupid old people and their formal documents.

What's with the 2000 date, anyway? Nintendo had the idea for that six years ago?

Re: Wii Messenger

If I was smart I would work that out... but here is what I read...

When someone is online, even if the player is playing a game the person who is online can leave a message or interact with the player...

OH SNAP!

Re: Wii Messenger

Oh no... please no. God... Microsoft and Sony are trying to ruin their consoles by shoving everything they could think of into their systems, and basically making their consoles a small PC. Now Nintendo's trying to do the same with Wii Messenger? Please. No.

Stop complaining. Be glad that you can still play awesome games on all systems.

Actually, I'm not glad nor am I sad for these games. I could do without all these games and get on with my life, in the real world. The only time when I played games is when I'm either: a) too bored or b) have lots of free time.

Complaining? What, now you can't take the opinions of mine? Stop complaining toward my opinions.

Re: Wii Messenger

Geez, there's no pleasing some fans, eh? What was everyone worried about a week ago? huh? That Wii online play would be as stripped down as the DS? Of course that would suck! Obviously Nintendo knows this. No, Nintendo is not trying to turn their product into a PC for your TV. Theyre just catering to their fan base, who has been starving for online play since the release of the GCN. this wont take away from the games, and it wont make the interface much more complicated if implememnted correctlty. I also dont see why anyone is surprised by the web browser. Doesn't anyone remember, way back when when the Wii was still called the Revolution and Nintendo kept hinting at an "online magazine"? Thats probably what this web browser is. Just an aplication that allows you to read pages on an enternal network administored by Nintendo. Of course, if it were to be a full on web browser, that would be nice to, but I see it much more likely to be similar to the PSP browser. (which is hackable and so may be the Wii browser)

The Xbox 360 already has that. The Dreamcast had a web browser. WiiConnect24 sounds kinda useless. What's wrong with having to make a quick download once in a while when you boot up the system? Having it on Standby all the time would waste power and, I don't know if other people have the same problem, but, when I use the internet on the computer and try to connect to Xbox Live, they both start to slow down and lag and what not.

Re: Wii Messenger

I mean I'm not really surprised with anything, they announced buddy chat, but thats already been experienced. Although the browser that was announced did sound pretty good. But then again The XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 aren't just browsers, they have actual function of an actual computer. A browser well is only good for well looking at stuff.

The whole point of a standby mode is that it uses virtually no power. Think about it, mechanical parts use up most of the power in a console, in standby nothing's moving. The GPU isn't on, the CPU is doing almost nothing, where, exactly, is this power drain? And if it's a big issue just unplug it.

Also, just because another console did it first we shouldn't be happy? Very well then, no one should buy any next-gen system, it's all been done before.

All the more reason why Wii should have them, right? I mean, the GCN got rather blasted for having poor online support and no DVD-compatibility (while the other two consoles had these). I don't really think this is a bad move at all... granted, I'll never use it, but still.

As for the WiiConnect24 thing, I don't really understand the point of it, either, but they'd have to be really stupid not to have a "turn this off" option.

That's actually your router's fault.

And the point of the standby mode is that it doesn't use much power. It's the same standby mode found on most computers and the PSP.

Poor online support? The GCN had none.

I'm quite excited for the Wii. It seems that it's going to take a large leap in gaming, even if other consoles have already taken it. Now, I may not use all those things. But it will be interesting to have.
