My list of all the Game Consoles Created...

Years and years ago I did some researching for the hell of it (mainly because I had nothing to do) and I decided to make a list of all the game consoles ever created. It was hard. It took me some time yet I'm still uncertain If I found all of them. Some on my list I'm still uncertain about. The rules I used to make the list is the following

Rules for the Game Consoles:
1. Must have been released
2. Must have played cartrides of discs. Had to play different games in which you can put into the machne.
3. Must have been released in the US (uncertain about this rule)
4. If otherwise stated by reliable source or company.
5. Can't be a computer game console

- this list isn't in order of their release
*though it is a system it is a combination of Sega CD and Sega Genesis.
** Even though is refered to a video game console only takes one cartridge. There's been hundreds of stupid Pong systems but these are considered the main ones.

If you can please help me to make sure this is the complete list. If you know a console that is not on the list please tell the name and where I can possibly find information. If you have an questions or comments please, please post them here.

This is a very impressive list so far. I myself cannot think of anymore consoles. There are many here that I've never even heard of before. You might want to make it in chronological order so people can easily check the list to see if consoles are missing. Granted, that would be very hard to do, but it's a suggestion.

Let me get rid of some of your question marks.

The Virtual Boy is a system.

The 64DD was a N64 add on only released in japan. They cost 1000$ or so to import. They ran on discs, but the corrosponding cartridge was required to play the disc.

Im not sure if that counts as a system.
If it does then add the SNES satalite. Which could Download addition content for games(particularly Zelda) via a satalite.

paul1991's referring to the Satellaview. Wikipedia has a good overview. Whether one treats it as a console in itself or an addon probably depends on one's personal criteria for distinguishing one from another. If one were to add Satellaview, it'd probably also be worthwhile adding the Nintendo Power to the list.

I'll need to dig up my own master list when I get home. One quick correction, though, is that SNK made the NeoGeo and various pocket variations, not Sega. There also seems to be some funkiness going on with the various other Sega products.

Hmm... I check on that. I assume you are right about SNK but I'll just verify to make sure. And what do you mean some funkiness is going on? Yeah I know they made a lot of consoles.

EDIT: Yes you are right about SNK being the maker of Neo Geo. I change it on my list. thank you.

From what I understand by your post is that 64 was only an addition think, it wasn't a seperate console correct?

64DD was not seperate and it was only released in Japan. The SNES Satilite was only released in.... was it China? It seems strange, but that's what I recall.... Although, my memory fails me often...

Well, I doubt it was actually released in China. Probably a Japan only release.

Also, I might consider adding DOS or MSDOS. Possibly even Windows....and Apple......And Mac....Oh, posibly even Unix and Linux....OS/2....

Oh, and if you're going to add the PS2 redesign, add in the SNES redesign too, as well as the top-loading NES.

there was a remake of LoZ but with ALttP graphics. they released it in segments and it was never full released.

For example, the fact that the Genesis shows up five times between including it as the Mega Drive and factoring for versions. There seems to be a question of how console versions are treated as a whole: It doesn't make sense to include all iterations of the Genesis but not the Famicom, Super Famicom, and top-loading NES, for example.

In my own catalogue I end up breaking them down by major platform, then model revision, then serial revision where possible.

wow that's quit a list. I didn't know that there were soo many consoles. it's just amazing.

And you know what? There's probably at least one person who's got their hands on every one of those consoles.

Stuff like new tracks for f-zero. Its a good list but keep looking I'm sure I've heard mention of more obscure old consoles.

That infact was a computer game system. There are hundreds of computer game systems but they are not infact Video game consoles.

Are you counting the Super game Boy? It was an add-on for the SNES to play gameboy games, but there were no additions except a game-specific or interchangeble border.

Well If I counted that I would have to count the Game Boy Player for Gamecube. I don't know. It's not really consider a console. I think about it...

I have one word about that list. WOW. Seriously, how many web sites did you have to go on to to find all that information?
