Re: PSP vs DS
better graphics and more mutimedia are the only advanced features, but those don't always make the system better.
DS has more innovative playing style to it, as well as a much better list of games.

Re: PSP vs DS
Oh boy. My new favorite thread...
The PSP's argument: More features, namely music player, movie player, and phot viewer, as well as hand-held game console; wide-screen. The DS's argument: Touch-screen; two screens; purely a hand-held gaming device. Now, the features of the PSP. Firstly, the music player. Hand up everyone that doesn't own an MP3 player. Okay, so those 3 people in the universe that don't own one: Are you going to buy an MP3 player for $400? No. That's what I thought. You can get a decent MP3 player that can hold more than enough songs for $200 or less. Why on earth would you spend so much for one? The UMD movie system. Well, at the moment, the future of UMD is not looking very bright. Many Hollywood movie companies are looking to pull out of making UMD discs, becuase they are not selling, and they're losing money on them. This was always going to happen. Every un-biased gamer knew that UMD wasn't going to "revolutionize how the audience watches movies". The photo-viewer. Why? You have a digital camera. If you have your $400 PSP with you, you take the memory stick out of the camera, and put it in your PSP, and look at photos. Whhy you can't just look at your photos on your digital camera is quite beyond me. In act, it makes more sense to keep the memory stick inside the camera, so it can't be lost. This was also a foolish feature. WIIIIDESCREEEEEEN: So? PSP has a 16:9 screen. The DS has TWO SCREENS! Have you ever watched the unlockable movies on Metroid Prime: Hunters on DS? They're awesome. They build the action mood by making you flick between screens, trying to watch all the action. You no longer need to have your screen cluttered by HUD and maps. You just have all the action on the top/bottom screen, and all the stats on the other. Simple. And with the future of UMD in doubt, widescreen isn't going to be much use while watching non-existant movies, is it? The DS argument: Touch Screen! Firstly: Tigerboi. I KNOW NINTENDO DID NOT INVENT TOUCH-SCREENS! Now, the touch-screen is quite a good way of playing a game. It's not as good as a joystick in some cases, I'll admit. (one of those cases being Metroid, trying to turn 360 often requires you to lift the stylus. GASP) But with other cases, such as the mini-games in Super Mario 64, the touch screen is perfect. It also functions like a mouse, meaning that internet browsing is going to be easy. Touch screen wasn't invented by Nintendo, but they've put it to good use, dammit. Dual Screens: as mentioned in the PSP's widescreen part, touch-screen roxors. I can find no fault in it. Though, I'm sure some people will... *COUGH*Tigerboi*COUGH* Purely a gaming console. Yes. No DVD player over-heating your system. No memory stick requirements. No bulky hand-held. Just a gaming console. This prolongs your battery life. Yay? Yay. As you can see, I do prefer the DS. The PSP was a half-decent venture into the hand-held market, but quite frankly, it just isn't good enough.

Re: PSP vs DS
The "this console is better than this console!" routine is so juvenile that I don't even give it much thought.
With that said, I have 12 PSP games and 6 DS games, and the only other games I want for either aren't out yet. In the end, I think games are all that really matter. This doesn't mean that PSP is better than DS, but in this case I happen to prefer Sony's selection. |

Re: PSP vs DS
Being a Nintendo fanboy I prefer the DS.
Why do I? Well, you can have a look at Jodd's post, arguably the best post this month. It clearly tells it all.

Re: PSP vs DS
All I can say is do each his/her own. If a person likes their gaming devices with extra features, get a PSP. PSP wins in the hardware war. If you want to play TRUTHFULLY CHECK THE REVIEWS IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME better games, then DS is for you. DS wins gameplay. Conclusion: PSP and DS need to combine. Ultimate gaming experience.

Re: PSP vs DS
PSP is not my cup of tea. I have nothing against it. I just have nothing for it, either. I've looked at the list of games, and not many catch my eye (except Mega Man, but I'm not gonna spend all that money for three or four games). I just prefer the DS' lineup versus the PSP's. That's about all there is to it. Oh, and before somebody reminds me of the PSP's multimedia stuff... I have a computer and a DVD player, so I'm covered, thanks.

Re: PSP vs DS
I really was never the type of person who likes to play handhelds but I've played my friends DS and seen another friend play PSP and watched a bit of Spiderman 2 on it and I'd have to say that the PSP's screen and graphics seems more crisp especially while watching a movie because the movie's quality is flawless and actually better than my TV but the games on the DS seem better but this really depends on the genre of game you like because I can see how it's possible to like the PSP's games better so the choice of which consoles games you like better are different from person to person.
As for all the multimedia things that the PSP has they're really useless because if I want to watch a movie I'll use my DVD player and if I want to listen to music I'll use my I-Pod. The DS's touch screen is really cool at first but it loses it's novelty after about an hour and really doesn't make the game any more fun and like I found out from Tigerboi in some other thread it's really not innovative because the tapwave zodiac was the first handheld console to have touch screen. As for the dual screens like the touch screen it loses it's novelty after about an hour. But it is a pretty good idea I guess. So for graphics PSP>DS As for game quality PSP<DS (For me however it can be different depending on the person) and for special features PSP<DS (Although the PSP has more features the DS's features are more useful to me anyways.) Overall PSP<DS (They are very close but DS just barely beats out PSP just because I prefer the DS's games.) |

Re: PSP vs DS
Actually, there's only one reason I prefer the DS to the PSP.
The PSP was, literally, a "PlayStation Portable." The DS was actually something new worth wasting my money on. I already have a PlayStation. I don't need another one, especially if it's going to cost more and have even more hardware to worry about. |
