Wii Just Got High Quality Stars!

I don't know if you guys have seen them yet but IGN has released some High quality pictures of Mario Galaxy and for a demo game it looks so dam fine!



I love the textures, they are so beautiful and aren't dumbed down. There also seems to be no sharp corners, all smoothing smoothalicious!

For some reason, I have a feeling that this is fake. I mean, Mario and that trail seem to be different from each other. Does anyone agree?

IGN was at E3 and played it so I wouldn't really call them fakes since everywhere else has similar pics yet not in HQ.

Mario Galaxy shall be "teh roxor". It looks like it's going to be as good as Super Mario 64 was, back in the day. I hope this is set to be a launch title, I really want to pick it up. It looks like it going to make great use of the Wii-mote, with the motion-sensitive controls.

That game is going to be so awesome. If it's released this year, it'll be the best game of the year besides TP. I especially love the idea of walking around upside down or on walls.

I really don't see what's the big deal with this game I might buy it used a few months after it's release but it certainly isn't on my priority list.

One thing I do find hillarious about this game is that the very same people who have told me graphics don't matter are now telling me how good this game is going to be because of it's graphics.

I honestly think that these screens look very much like they're Gamecube Quality (though the backrounds are very nicely smoothed).
Mario looks the same as he did in Sunshine, in my opinion, give or take a few lighting effects.
SSB: Brawl Mario looked much more detailed...

Lol... that trail thing with the tunnel which Mario was about to go through looked like one of those Photoshop'ed copy&past effect. The edges weren't smoothed out, there were too many ragged corners. I believe that the images may be fake all together.

And not fake, for crying out loud. They have videos over at IGN. I can see why you'd think they're fake, though.

Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. There are a few things that bother me. Like how Mario's movement through space seems to be very limited. But if it's a Mario platformer, it can't fail.

That's just me though.

The screens look decent, but as always, screenshots don't do the game justice. If you watch the high quality videos of the game in action on IGN, you'll have no doubt that graphics of this game are much better than typical Gamecube graphics. It's ridiculously polished.

And it is Mario, after all. It's not like we want him to be overly detailed. You could go the Sony/Microsoft route and make each individual moustache hair sway independently of each other or cover his face in detailed beads of sweat, but I'll take good old cartoony Mario.

I fricking hate it how IGN and all other online news sites downscale screens from their full resolution. For all critical viewing purposes, you have no idea how great the graphics really are. You really have no idea how bad granies are. You really have no idea how smooth the graphics are. Half the texture effects were lost or blended during the downscaling. Here's to Window's supposedly superior format.

Not like grainies or anything are really much of a problem, though. This is a next generation system that supports 480p.

Anyone else notice some contrast problems? Is this still footage (shots) off IGN's HD camera? It's either a problem with the equipment used, or bad lighting effects on the developer's part.

It's going to be amazing!

True that. There also appear to be 2x2 antialiasing artifacts, which we wouldn't see if they were truly downscaling.

The screenshots are underwhelming: The game looks a lot better in action. The screenshots themselves honestly make the game look like a Gamecube title, and it's only in motion that the effects presented distinguish themselves from those we've seen in the current generation.

My bad. I was figuring 360 would represent the fact that they cut the 720p (upconverted on the e3 displays) resolution in half.

I don't understand why the horizontal is smaller though. Whatever. They must just not be using full res.

Ok, well, the game does look pretty good. But compare it to this:


I mean, c'mon guys. Just except it. When compared to the other two consoles, the Wii hasn't produced anything spectacular looking. And seeing as visuals don't really matter, that's perfectly fine.

^ That looks a whole better then the Super Mario Galaxy pictures (can I see the design of Soinc's shoe?!).

The lighting seems a little too bright. Although, it's sort of in way; realistic (considering Mario is close to a star...), brighter is always necceserily better. I'd much rather prefer the lighting affects of the Sonic Wildfire picture, rather then the Super Mario Galaxy one.

It looks good none-the-less. The texture seems to added in very nicely (but like SD pointed out, SSBB Mario looks more realistic). It'll be a game I'll probably get when the Wii comes out.
