Red Steel and stuff.
Well, ok. The game didn't look too hot at E3. Admit it.
The controls looked beyond clunky and the ubisoft rep even had trouble with the aiming. But games are never in thier true form at E3. And Halo CE wasn't well recieved at the E3 it was shown at: Look how that game turned out. The following is just something I scoped while lurking the gamespot forums. The poster established that it's just something he heard, so take it to a grain of Salt. -Game will be around 26-32 hours in total length, including additional content including a “History of the Yakuza” featurette. -In addition to the much beefed up graphical component since E3, 3D-tracking applied to the sword fights has been added as well. -The “Red Steel” moniker is based on a part of the story where to defeat and be able to overcome certain obstacles you will seek out the “Red Steel” which is a legendary two part system-firearm and katana. -When you acquire “Red Steel” you can wield both simultaneously (added greatness to be added if player uses two Wii-motes). -Stealth will have a moderate impact on gameplay. -Red Steel will utilize additional sensor inside the front door on Wii console, mostly for the sword fighting. -Will feature online play of some sort, but sword-fighting has been mentioned as definite. -Great deal of time now that the graphics are finished (will look slightly better than first official trailer), is tweaking Wii-mote responsiveness and and adding more depth to gestures and balanced gameplay. -All developers who sign on to develop for Wii will be able to receive a great deal of documentation and assistance of programming Wii-mote functions to streamline and fasten the process. -One new control mechanic that has been implemented has to do with stealth. Since choice of how you go about combat in this game is so open-ended. You can sneak up on someone and once your behind them you can grab them in a headlock from behind with the nuchuck (which coorelates a left-handed headlock) and use them as a mobile human shield. Which you can choose to kill them first or let enemy gunfire do the job for you. But while you have them in this headlock you can peek over their shoulder and fire around their body using the Wii-mote. -Other confirmed news is that Red Steel will make heavy use of physics in combat and so on. Will also be one of the first (along with Metroid Prime 3) to utilize both Havok features and Euphoria animation script.

Re: Red Steel and stuff.
I'm really hyped for this game. The use of the wiimote, and some of the gameplay mechanics that we've been shown so far are simply incredible. The way that this game is using sword-fights and gun-fights to what seem to be excellent levels is an accomplishment that I don't think we'll see again. Ubi really has the potential to make this a piece of gold.

Re: Red Steel and stuff.
It looks like it will turn out to be a good game, but it's performance at E3 was very underwhelming.
One thing that this game needs is BLOOD. I'm not one for uber-violent games, but honestly, it is imperative that Ubisoft include blood in this game. Not having blood works in a game like Zelda, but not in a game like Red Steel.

Re: Red Steel and stuff.
Red Steel really, really needed to be the Game of the Show at E3 this year. It wasn't.
I'm still incredibly excited about the Wii, but Nintendo needed to highlight the fact that the controller can be a viable alternative to a mouse and keyboard for FPS games. Red Steel was supposed to deliver in that regard, and failed. Metroid Prime 3 remains, of course, a shining example of how an FPS can be controller with the Wii, but it isn't the quick, competitive FPS that the Wii needs.

Or Splinter Cell. Yet that sort of is a super-franchise right now. It won't actually matter. Ubisoft Paris is known for not putting blood in games that you would think should have it. Ghost Recon, for one. Though, it would be insanely cool to cut a guy's arm off and have blood literatly spray out realistically.

If this news is true, then I'm happy. I do agree with you Tigerboi, Red Steel's gameplay mechanics did seem a tad bit clunky. Hopefully Nintendo will at least fix that problem.

Re: Red Steel and stuff.
Eh? I tend to average about thirty hours for Nintendo games. Symphonia took me sixty hours... Wind Waker took forty (but the sailing... yeah), most Zelda games take about thirty... Sonic games are the ones I'd go on about being short (12 hours each for both Adventures, playing Sonic Heroes right now), and Rayman 3 took me nine hours... I don't think the problem is really Nintendo, per se. It's just developers in general, since longer games are more expensive to make.
And Red Steel hasn't interested me, so I don't really have much to say on the main topic on hand. ![]() |

Real 3D movement?
Amazing! I'm very hyped up about this game! It will probably be the second Wii game I buy! With TP being the first, of course...

Anyway as far as Red Steel goes I'm not really excited for it. The showing at E3 made me less and less interested in playing, the sword battle seems pretty good and the possible online feature. In my oppinion it fails too compete with other good titles like Metroid, and well other good FPS, but then again if it's the one of the only games that come out during luance I'm going to get it. |

Re: Red Steel and stuff.
Thanks for the great news, TB.
I absolutely cannot wait for this game to come out. I have always wanted to see what it would be like to play a game where you sword fight in first-person. Online play is cool too, this game is definantly killer app if it will feature online sword fighting. I don't think that any system has ever had the "perfect" launch, but the way things are turning out with the Wii, don't expect things to stay the way they are for too long. |
