Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

Yeah, I recently bought this game just today for about 8$ at a video store. Ive heard the game mentioned around the internet before, so it piqued my interest. I gotta say the gameplay, and the begging of it, sucked horribly! Ugh, yet still I pushed through it, But the storyline is very intrigiung....

*Spoilers* (Sorry I dont know how to make spoiler tags)

You are playing as this 17 year old boy named serge (or whatever you wanna call him) and one day you wake up from a dream with two girls in it, your neighbor and someone you dont know yet, Anyway a little bit into the game your standin on this beach chattin with the neighbor girl, when suddenly your sucked into a paralell world.....

But in this world you died 10 years ago, and no one knows who you are, because they think your dead, Only person you can trust is A really hot chick Named Kid.....(And thats as far as Ive gotten)

Problem is my memory card is screwed up on my PS2, so I gotta start all over, But hey the beggining isnt really hard, its just boring! I got to the town of Termina(I know thats what I thought too), with Kid, and had to shut it off....

Anyone else here played this game? Should I not even bother with it, or should I keep goin? Was it worth the 8$ considerin its a PS1 game? So many questions....

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

Being a big Chrono Trigger fan, this game didn't impress me much. If they make another sequel I hope it's more true to the original.

Yes, I believe it does. Chrono Trigger is said to be one of the best RPG's in video game history, BTW. I've never played it, though.

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

Chrono Cross ties back to Chrono Trigger near the very end. Otherwise it's extremely independent.

I loved Chrono Cross. Definitely a different experience than CT, but a great game nonetheless. It was a more Square-typical alternate-reality-WTF-funride than CT, so it's understandable that some people might not prefer it over the original.

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

I'm one of the few who does. Chrono Trigger is amazing in it's own right, but Chrono Cross really did it for me. I liked the way the story flowed, the elemental battle system, the multitude of characters to choose from (that, in their abundance, didn't make the game seem too cluttered), the magical soundtrack and just... everything. Very well-executed sequel. I might've liked a few more ties back to Chrono Trigger, but as it is, it's an amazing story.

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

Amazing game. My friend lent me his PS1 years ago along with the game, i ADORED IT!

I only got as far as:

After Serge and Lynx switched bodies because of the Chrono Cross

Anyway, I preferred Chrono Trigger the most though. It's definately one of my all time favorite RPGs to date. Chrono Cross doesn't relate to Trigger all that much though, expect maybe around the middle, and near the end supposedly.

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

The game is very interesting. One problem I have with it is the character thing. You get like, 40 characters....but you can't get certain ones if you've gotten others. So I'm the person who loves to collect everything in the game, and basically find myself going, "I....CAN'T....DO IT!!!!!"

Despite that, it's pretty fun. I love the spoiler thing. It's like, "HOLY CRAP! I -spoiler-! I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED!" Heh...have fun with that.

Also, the music for it is so frickin sweet. I love it! Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World is undoubteb......undoubtib......there is no doubt that it is my favorite song. Rock on Yasunori Mitsuda!

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

You can get every character, if I recall correctly. It requires at least 3 playthroughs, though, because of the one instance that requires you to pick between 3 with no chance of ever getting the others that time through.

Of course, all ya need is Razzly and Glenn and you have all the characters you'll ever need.

Both QFT.

Chrono Cross was great. I believe it was one of my summer games...Last year? Or perhaps the year before that?

Anyways, I would really recommend you pick up Chono Trigger (You can get it as part of Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PS) and play that first. They're sort of ment to be played in that order, and if you stray, there will be a lot of awesome moments in Chrono Cross that you won't even get to understand. The storyline is already confusing as it is.

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

I played this game a while back. My cousin lent me his playstation and a few games. It was the only one I ever played. I got to the part where you had to kill the white knight ghost guy. I can't even remember what he was actually called. I don't know how far I was, I can't remember how long I played for, and I don't know a speck of what happened past that point, but it was an awesome game.

I remember the battle system was awesome. I can't remember how many different elements there were, but I think there were five or six. Let's see... water, fire, electricity, light, dark... and something green. But yeah, it's like the moves evolved as you progressed through the game, each one having an equally awesome cinematic, if that's what you'd like to call it.

The characters were pretty cool, too. I remember I always loved to have Guile (I think that's what he was originally called) on my team. There was some wrestler, too. Then Razzly, the little fairy, who I remember could be obtained somewhere around the part with the dwarves (evil little bastards with their big snake thing).

I suppose I'll never know how it ties together with Chrono Trigger, which I also loved. I'll keep my hopes up, though.

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

I heard it ties with it in the end, though Im no where near the end....

My favorite character in it is Kid, shes sooo beautiful, I guess part of me wishes I could meet someone like her in real life, pfff yeah that'll happen, then God will open a cloud and say he's real!

Anyway Kid was the whole reason I got this game come to think of it! Maybe thats why I feel so destined to beat the game! Ive fallen in love with a video game character again! Oh well, at least I have a real crush....

Chrono Trigger was for the SNES. It's one of the games I am praying that can be downloaded with the Wii.

I never got the chance to play Cross... I don't own Sony crap, and thus could not play a game for the PS. Now if they re-released it fot the 360 or the Wii...

Re: Chrono Cross-Anyone played it?

Why would they do that? Its a Sony game.....what I dont get is, is why they made it a PS game instead of an N64 game. I mean it started on SNES, right? Or do they just share this game like Spyro and Crash bandicoot?

A improved version (minus loading...) is also avialible for the PS in Final Fantasy Chronicles. Get this version just for the ending, and the huge tie in to Chrono Cross.

All Square-Enix games went to Sony consoles after Nintendo decided to use cartridges for the N64, among other things.

The N64 had too low quality media storages (N64 cartridges), so Square Enix left Nintendo to work with Sony and their higher standard media (Compact Discs).

CDs had much better video quality, and more memory capacity. So it was much better to make a game on that system. Except for the lack of an analog stick in the beginning on their controllers.
