Can console sales be determined by weight?

Well I was just wandering if you want to a system do you think anything about the weight.
For example: People saif the Xbox was bulky and fat their for I take people didn't want to buy it.
So what do you guys thnk?

Actually yes, but it's a tricky subject, see, right now, systems need to be large and bulky to fit all the little goodies like hard disks, nice video cards, and sweet rims, but of course, people want attractive systems.

The wii is small compact, and provides minimal sound pollution, but of course, a small system right now, for this next gen, means that it would have those high speed graphics that everyone oogles over.

And people said the gamecube looked like a lunchbox...

I doubt it has much to do with the weight... but the actual design and size of the machine. A cube for a machine makes it look like a kid's toy, whereas the Xbox (though big) sent a message to how powerful the thing really was.

Yah I guess it does send a message of how good it looks.
But it can be how good it's appearance is to some.

Weight isn't a big issue, even size, which matters more, is rarely of any concern. Despite it's massive size (Most of which, rumour has it, was just empty space), it sold very well. The size of the console and the weight only realy matter when you're first getting it home, or if you plan on moving it a lot.

How a console looks does not matter to me at all. The orignal Xbox was big, bulky, and quite unattractive, but, I still have one. Because I enjoy the games that are on it. As long as a console performs the way I would like, looks have no bearing on if I will buy it.

Same here.

The way a system looks doesn't matter to me. Perhaps maybe handheld consoles (obviously you want something small and portable), but that's about it. The 360 is sort of box already (about the weight of a heavy laptop). But it's the games I more care about. Of coarse there's a certain extent to how big the system is (I wouldn't want a system that's the size of a PC =/).

It's pretty amazing how compact video game companies can make their systems. I think that Nintendo tries to make all their systems as small and compact as possible (most likely because of their success with their handheld department). But there's also the downside of not being able to really add on to the system (But when I buy Nintendo systems, I'm not really paying attention to their multimedia department). So I expect Nintendo to focus in on how small, sleek, and how 'sexy' the system looks.

Ooo, this subject. Frankly I don't really care what it looks like, or the size of it, but either way people will complain. If you can't lift something that's two pounds heavy, stop playing video games.

Size and general appearance would seem to matter more than weight since it's immediately apparent.

I'm sure weight matters to some people, but when's the last time, after recommending a console to someone, they asked you how much it weighed? Or the last time you caught someone asking to check the weight of a console before buying in a store?

The question to ask would be why people are thinking about purchasing a given console in the first place. Because their friends recommended it? Because it has games that they want? Because their son/daughter asked for one for Christmas? Or simple vanity, since everyone else they know has one? Would any of these be swayed by the console's mass?
