Correct, it is a fair balance IMO. 3 is enough, if theres is going to be a fourth one (which will probaly be) it would be SEGA.

Phillips CD-I
Atari Lynx
TurboExpress
Gamepark 32
Gamepark Holdings GP2X
New Geo Pocket (color)
Wonderswan (color)
Nintendo Virtual Boy
Commodore Amiga
Game.com
Sega Game Gear
Sega Genesis
Sega Genesis Nomad
Sega Dreamcast
N-Gage (QD)
Gizmondo
Now of course, some of those consoles you've never heard because (1) It never left the country (2) It was never that popular to begin with (I've honestly heard of half of them).
If you want a company to step up, make sure they have something that the others don't (especially with a reasonable price). Heck, Nintendo is just one step closer to virtual reality (they could have four "motion sensor braclets" that go around your wrists, one leg, and head (of course all four controller slots will be taken, so it would have to be a one player game...unless it's Wifi-compatible), now how is a company suppose to compete with that? Other than the top four dogs (PC, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo), the only "competition" they have is Nokia...and look how horribly they are doing (actually speaking of Cell phones, more and more cell phone games are popping up, so that's the only light of hope Nokia has for a comeback...but it still won't be enough).
