The Reason Gamers Play

I've been thinking about this, the Reason Why I play video games and also why others play video games. I play them because it puts me in a state that I can't reach with the normal limitaions of the Human Body and the World we live in.

Take Resident Evil 4 for exp. Awesome game and I love to play it b/c where else can I take a shotgun and cut through Diseased Zombies??? No here on our planet.

Or Zelda, I would love to be Link and go out, have my own horse, go through Perilous dungeons, etc.

It sort of gives people power that they don't normally have.

My question is, Whydo u play video games?

I think this would be better suited to General Gaming, rather than the Serious Discussion.

Well for me it doesn't really bring me to 'a happy place' or anything and I am not going to pretend it does. It is to fill up my time and for some enjoyment for a short period of time before I have to go back to ordinary boring life, plain and simple nothing behind it.

Sorry if I sounded a bit blunt but that what I think, there is nothing around that.

The reason everyone plays video games if for enjoyment.

And the basis of every video game is it's gameplay. Sure, I can appreciate a good story, good sound and graphics....but they don't make a game better. I already know some people will try to, but this is undebatable, seeing as it's the gameplay that makes it a game to begin with and gameplay is the only thing EVERY genre of video game has in common.

I mean, Resident Evil is one of my favorite franchises. And trust me, RE has the most ridiculous and confusing story of all time. I play it for the gameplay.

Anway I play video game because there highly addictong and provide various amounts of amusement and joy. Theirs also somehing very inovative.
For ex. I'm playing MM something just gets my mind and tells me continue the quest get the next mask.

What else is there to do besides sports? And I hate sports fanatics...

sport is amazing..................but lets not go into that debate!

games are just summin to relax you from stress and have fun!

GC+ copy of mario kart/SSB/NarutoGNT4/ + 3 mates = 4 hours of greatness!

Because it lets me to escape to another dimension, lets me meet people I wouldn't normally meet, and it allows me to do things that surpass the power of normal human bodies.

I still love fairy tales and magic, and I guess rpgs are fairytales in a new form. I still wish that the things in stories could really happen, and videogames are the closest normal people can to that.

Thats another reason I play Video Games, it just makes me more than what I can be in a real life situation

Feline witch: I suppose escapism is another reason. Like wanting to controll your favorite character or something.

To do crazy backflips. I am not kidding if the game does not allow you to do crazy backflips I will not play it period. That is why I like Legend Of Zelda so much Links backflips are sooo crazy it is awsome.

I play video games because their fun. And it's sometimes a good way to make friends (assuming you have online service). Sometimes I might need a break (especially after I did some sort of work out, I usually have to do karate for about five hours a week), then I'll just play some video games. Video games are very relaxing for me. I sometimes see video games as an interactive book (I'm talking about video games that have a real story behind them). You further read the book to unravel the plot and story behind it. Same thing goes for video games. You further play the game to unravel the plot and story behind it. So sometimes I play video games to know a good story. Other times I just plain out want to have fun (don't we all?). If some people say video games are bad for you, I’d say watching TV is a lot worse then playing video games (that's just my opinion). I don’t just play video games all the time though (but that’s another topic).

These are just my reasons of playing video games. I'm not sure about other people.

I believe one of the reasons many play games is for one reason: To have FUN. When I'm playing a game that's the first thing I look for in a game, something that's fun for me.

Well, I game to relax, let lose and have fun. Sometimes for a bit of brain-teasing with puzzles. I love being mentally stimulated. As mentioned in a previous post, I guess it is a form of escapism. I mean, I don't make a conscious decision to play because, "I want away from what's going on in my life," but I think that losing myself in another world, fighting off monsters and stuff does appeal to me. I get caught up in a good storyline, just like I would a book (which is another form of escapism, and seems more respectable--compared to gaming--in the eyes of many just because it's a *book* and videogame is something completely different, but one could classify both as forms of escapism, except a game is more interactive).
