Nintendo Wii Launch Line-Up

I figured with E3 coming closer and closer, and the supposed unveiling of Nintendo's next console, codenamed Revolution on May 9th, we could finally start to discuss what the future system's game line-up and related information in one thread.

I've been excited for this console for a long time now and although I won't be able to buy it on launch day(No Job...), I want to go out and meet a few Nintendo fans ready to buy it themselves, just to experience what it's like. I missed out on the N64 and Gamecube launches, so I definitely don't want to do the same this time. Here are my ideas for the games that should come out with the system:

First Party Developers
Super Mario Revolution
New Franchise- Maybe an RPG
Something in the catergory of Brain Age- My family would love something like that.
That Cooking Game Mr. Konno (Mario Kart Director) was talking about

Third Party Developers
Red Steel- looks fun, although not on my list of games to get first.
Sports Games- I'm wondering how Madden would play with the Revolution controller.
Some new genres-About time we had a few new ways to play games.
--

Overall, I'm not expecting much. Maybe 8 or 10 games should be enough. By 2007, there should be a small price cut and second generation games should be hiting stores like Metroid Prime 3. This looks to be a exciting time for Nintendo fans all around. I can hardly wait.

EDIT:Although this isn't strictly Revolution related, how would you feel if Twilight Princess, the next console Zelda, was moved to the Revolution? A Zelda fansite, The Hylia, brought up how it might/could happen.

I'd be pretty annoyed. After finally saving up for Gamecube this past Christmas, I'd have to start all over and buy a new console. I heard people say Nintendo will get alot more sells if TP launches on Revolution. While true, I think that Super Mario Revolution and a few supporting titles can do well enough without Twilight Princess being there.

Re: Nintendo Wii Launch Line-Up

Don't quote me on it, but I read somewhere or another to expect around 18-20 launch games, with at least three from Nintendo themselves.

Here are some games that I expect at or around launch:

Super Mario Revolution-
It better be ready and it better be good.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess-
It'll act as a sort of psuedo Revolution launch title.

Super Smash Bros Revolution-
Online play an obvious addition.

Pilot Wings Revolution-
I keep hearing about how great the Revolution controller will work for flying games . . .

Red Steel-
I'm pretty sure this has been confirmed. Will help balance out the kiddy stuff.

Metroid Prime 3-
Combining the brilliance of the Gamecube Metroid games with the action, presentation, and online multiplayer madness of your typical FPS, and the versatile Revolution controller, "you will say wow" . . . hopefully.

Sadness-
Another Announced Revolution game. It is mature. The graphics, done in grey scale, take inspiration from Sin City. Nothing else is known.

Other games to look for include at some point in time:

-New Miyamoto franchise
-Various nongames
-Mario Paint (seems like a natural choice for both Revolution and DS)
-Pokemon and Animal Crossing Revolution (True MMORPGs this time around?)
-Crystal Chronicles (no longer FF Crystal Chronicles)
-RPG from Camelot (Golden Sun please?)

Well, that'll do her for now. Of course you expect every Nintendo franchise to make an appearance at some point or another, along with a couple of new franchises, and some quirky third party games. I expect the Revolution may get the shaft on some of the bigger third party games, but when you think about it, this really isn't any different than Gamecube.

^ My hope is that Nintendo doesen't try to get all it's existing franchises out too early. Consoles last for 6-7 years and we don't want to have everything in two years leaving the remaining time with no interesting games.

I'd really like Nintendo to make a couple of new franchise. Even take a go at a RPG(With Nintendo's quality touch).

Also, I edited my post, so some things may have changed.

Don't expect an RPG from Nintendo. I've always considered the possibilities, but the truth is it won't happen. Miyamoto has openly expressed his disdain for the RPG system of play. Former president Hiroshi Yamauchi (in one of his many memorable quotes) once stated that RPGs are for "depressed gamers who spend all day alone in the basement". Yikes.

Nintendo's best bet for RPG support would be to somehow lure Square Enix back on board. I've also heard that Camelot has been working for sometime on an RPG for Revolution. Or how about Retro Studios? Believe it or not, Retro Studios once worked on an RPG called Raven Blade, but it was scraped in favor of Metroid Prime. But from Nintendo itself (THE Nintendo, as in EAD)? Don't count on it.

Honestly, I don't think they'd make the best RPG anyway. EAD is not known for their ability to create epic stories. The only epic game they develop at all is Zelda, which is much more gameplay driven than your typical RPG. Nintendo is better off making use of their unique talents. For what they do, they are unmatched. To go off and try to compete with other developers at making RPGs and FPSs would be to give up what they're about.

I guess you are right in a way. But I really wasn't talking about your generic, turn based RPG. Nintendo or a supporting division like AlphaDreams or Itelligient Systems could add a Paper Mario/ Mario & Luigi RPG flair to it. I'd really like that approach to the genre.

Hey, someone besides me also thinks there will be another Crystal Chroncles game! Yay! That was one of my favorite games ever and still is. Though it's sad how so many people don't like it, just because they are lazy and don't want to get a GBA to GameCube wire, so now they dropped the Final Fantasy title.

And people wonder why Square Enix stopped making games for Nintendo and started working on games for Sony after 1996. (I know why Square truly went for Sony, don't try to prove me wrong or anything.)

Hmm, I highly doubt there will be a RPG game for the Revolution, other than Fire Emblem(not really an PRG, but you get the idea) Paper Mario, Crystal Chornocles, and what have you. I'll be shock if a pure RPG game will ever hit the Nintendo Revolution.

Re: Nintendo Wii Launch Line-Up

I really think that Revo will have a good amount of every genre this time around, with the 3rd party support coming back and the excitment that the developers have for the controller. I expect to see the return of a Mario RPG, Crystal Chronicles, and hopefully something good out of Camelot. I, too, am hoping for a Golden Sun title.

Wasn't Raven Blade first made as an RPG, but Retro felt that the gameplay elements didn't work well and went to action/adventure? Or was it the other way around?

Yeah, I heard that somewhere as well, so you're definately not alone

Personally, this is what I'm excited/hoping for at the Revo launch-

Twlight Princess- Come on, I mean, come on

Metroid Prime 3- It's Nintendo's Halo, and if it goes online with a quality multiplayer (unlike Echoes, more like Hunters) then Revolution will have a very strong killer ap.

Super Mario Revolution- The fans that this game could draw back would be amazing

Super Smash Bros Revolution- If it's bigger and better than Melee, then Revolution would have would could be the single greatest multiplayer title in history

N-Space Project/s- We all know that I really liked Geist, and I'd love to see what new gameplay they could come up with for the controller. Plus, they've confirmed that their current projects are mature, so this'll even further the fact that Nintendo isn't for kiddies.

Camelot RPG- As I said, if they can make a game anywhere near the quality of the Golden Sun titles, whether it's GS or not, then it may start Revo on a road to some truly good RPGs, drawing in tons of fans

Crystal Chronicles- I honestly liked it on GC, and if the flaws can be fixed from that, and we get a bit more of a serious theme then it could be an excellent game

Red Steel- It's unique, it sounds like it plays great, and it's a gritty, adult-themed game, just what the doctor ordered for Nintendo. And it's exclusive, to boot.

That's what I'm hoping for just at launch, but there's a lot more I'm excited about in the future.

Counting Chickens before they hatch. E3's coming up, I'll keep quiet until then. Although I do hope a Smash Brothers game is released at or near launch.

Re: Nintendo Wii Launch Line-Up

Here's another game to add onto your list: Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi.

As for what games I'm hoping to see on it? All I ask for is a Golden Sun, Prince of Persia, and Tales of game (Zelda, of course, but that's a given). And I don't think they would make TP a Rev game (I mean, only a Rev game). They added extra features so it would become playable on the Rev, I think that's enough. Since there are two Zelda games to each system (SNES, GB, and VGB are the only exceptions), I guess you could consider TP to be in between GC and Rev (which I hope they keep that codename by the way).

I wonder how the Dragonball Z game will make use of the control. Fighting games are one of the genres where I have no idea how the the Revolution remote will work.

Hmmm me neither. I could see how the Rev could be used for a boxing game (just have two controllers), but not something as fast paced as DBZ. Maybe it would use the "Knumchucks". The analog stick to use the forward/back direction of flight, and the sensor to determine what direction the character will fly by pointing towards that direction. Does that make sence? So if Goku (you) is on the ground, and you need to fight Vegeta (who is up in the sky, near the upper right hand corner of the screen), you'd press forward on the analog stick, and point the remote towards Vegeta, making Goku fly/teleport to him.

Now that's just flying, imagine the other things you could do. How about blocking? Vegeta is sending a barrage of energy balls at you, and you have to swipe them away (sorta like how Link volley's the energy ball back to Phantom Ganon..but it would be more than one ball at the same time). How about if you wanted to send a powerful attack to him? Shake the remote (I believe it can determine force, so I wouldn't be surprized if it can calculate the force you put into it), aim with your analog stick, and then press the Z button (FIRE!!).

Different attacks would have different ways of building up energy to launch the attack. Creative? Yes. Confusing? Maybe.

Wow... Lord Slug and Android 16 (or was it 14?) as playable characters? Sounds awesome, though it's still all Janemba for me. (aka the devil... I think)

Re: Nintendo Wii Launch Line-Up

A new Baten Kaitos or Tales game for the Rev would really make my day. I want a new Golden Sun or Skies of Arcadia, but the latter was not popular enough to be a francise, boo hoo.

I hope the new franchise is an Rpg. Nintendo really should consider making more of those.
