Most bizzare place in a game

What's the strangest place you've ever seen in a game? Somewhere that could be possibly just plain hilarious, or maybe sick and twisted...?

I've got the first one. The Chaos Spiritual Realm from Soul Calibur 3. It looks like something you might see while on drugs...

I think it's pretty cool, though.

Re: Most bizzare place in a game

In Baten Kaitos, in Mira there is a place where the screen is filled with different shapes, like a something shattered each with a different view and angle of the maze like room, I'll find a screenshot!

Re: Most bizzare place in a game

Everything in Rez is just weird. I thought I was high when I first played it,but I was wrong.(I don't do drugs, but still, that games areas are crazy)

The Living Forest in Mortal Kombat 2,Deception,and 4 is kinda weird. If you haven't see it,all you need to know is that the trees are murmuring, and sometimes they even say stuff to you.

I can't really think of anything else...

Re: Most bizzare place in a game

The Gravity Warped or less zone in legend of Dragoon was really weird, I mean, there were patches of the dungeon with gravity and some without, it made traversing it a pain in the butt. Also, the Space ship in FF8 was strange, but not because it was a space ship, mostly for the reason you were there. even that was not all that strange, but the wierd thing about it was when you are looking at the moon. That was just plain weirder. I mean, imagine being the person looking at all those monsters gathering. *shivers in fear*

Re: Most bizzare place in a game

I don't know about the most bizzare, but the most awesome might be Metroid Echoes' Sanctuary Fortress.

An abandoned, high tech complex controlled by robots located high in the mountains above...who knows what...complemented with crazy yet strangely epic techno music? Sounds like a place I'd want to explore. The region was quite unfitting of the Metroid franchise, but was so well executed that it didn't bother me at all. And Quadraxis made for a pretty awesome boss fight.

Weird how it's high in the mountains and the elevator which takes you to it goes down, don't you think?

I can't think of anything specifically weird, but one of the most awesome places I can think of is Tartarus from Soul Calibur 2. Y'know, Inferno's arena? The flames which erupt from the ground every time Inferno takes damage really add to the atmosphere.

Yeah. What were they thinking? None of it makes any sense. Is that supposed to be some huge city beneath the fortress? Well, whatever. It looks cool. It reminds me of the Matrix sort of. I love how there are patterns all over the walls, and the way they incorporated spider ball puzzles into the environment was borderline ingenious.

I always thought Chozo Ruins was quite awesome. The Chozo statues and inscriptions and fountains and... well, the combustible birds, to an extent. It all adds to the feeling of an ancient, derelict society which was tragically destroyed by an unstoppable force. I'm going to stop rambling now.

Hell in Doom 3, that place is just not only freaky but... well kinda scary. Especially the way you enter it... a warping tunnel of blood...

Not to mention that sci-fi sounding background music. I've always liked that song.

To be honest though, Chozo Ruins didn't appeal to me. The bland coloring has a lot to do with it. The architecture was neat; that seems to be a characteristic of the MP series in general, though. I also enjoyed the creepy atmosphere in places, and this atmosphere was intensified due to the game's tendency to freeze in certain hallways and elevators--more often then not in Chozo Ruins. Hated the Chozo Ghosts. Annoying, time consuming, easy.

Phendrana Drifts was beautful. I'd assume most MP fans like Phendrana Drifts. Whether it was realistic or not, the way the purple aura of your wave beam lights up the snowy cliffs is just a cool thing. My favorite area of the entire game are those serene ice caverns out on the far side of PD, what with that awesome techno music and all.

Might as well mention Torvus Bog as well. Torvus Bog is the epitome of ambience. Coloring is one of the most important aspects of the environment to me, and Retro had it down to an art with Torvus Bog. A dark, wet, moody atmosphere with the perfect bgm to match.

Just talking about the regions of Metroid Prime and Echoes makes me recall how good these games are. I expect some amazing things from Metroid Prime 3.

Re: Most bizzare place in a game

If the step-up in environmental awesomeness from Prime to Echoes is anything to go by, Prime 3 will rule the universe. Well, it will if the next version of the Ice Beam fires faster.

Moving on from Metroid for a bit, I found the general atmosphere of TimeSplitters Future Perfect's Mansion of Madness level to be quite weird. It had ghosts, white noise, paintings with eyes that follow you around the room, rocking horses that move by themselves, and a ghostly voice whispering "Cor...tez..." at random intervals. Plus, the music creeps me out.

You mean Cocolinth? I had a feeling someone would mention Mira in Baten Kaitos. It is probably the most bizzaire country in an rpg.

For me the weirdest place in a game is also in Mira, but it's a tie between Parnasse (a city built entirely out of candy and cakes, and has things like Charlie and the CHocolate factory stores, giant sponge apples, beds made out of cupcakes ect.) or Reverence, the Picture Book Village. It really reminded me of the old Yellow Submarine movie. Either those two. Then again, Detourne, the Mystical Garden is pretty weird. It has the Tower of Druaga in it, and has an upside down garden on it's ceiling (sometimes you run around in it upside down, which makes me dizzy.) And Nekton, which has giant scarlet glowing bluebell flowers in it.

Maybe I'll just say Mira in general is the weridest place in a game. Mira outweirdifies any levels in Shadow Hearts even.

Re: Most bizzare place in a game

Shadowman - The Playrooms.

Did anyone play Shadowman? Fantastic game, but seriously screwed in the head. One level involved a nursery set in a place called deadside (the realm of the dead). Rivers and pools and tanks of blood were the order of the day here. Occupied by butcher hook and antique rifle-toting madmen, the playrooms was made bizarre by the childish nursery rhyme "esque" music and the odd child's playroom dotted around.

Seriously warped stuff, but great stuff at that.
