World of Warcraft: Classes

I've just bought World of Warcraft and I'm not sure which class to pick. I'm going to be a Night Elf but I'm torn between Warrior and Druid, which is more fun to play. Can a Druid in bear form stand up to a Warrior? and does the warrior have any cool special abilities? I want to play a class with a lot of special moves/spells that can deal and take a lot of damage.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

Well obviously that would be the warrior. Look in any WoW related site, and they would refer beginners to the warrior. He can take more damage than the other characters, and dish out more damage, but of course doesn't use spells but uses skills. Hence the reason why the warrior is the ideal Tanking character. Hope that little tidbit helped.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

But isn't the Druid more versatile? How much damage can a druid take compared to a Warrior and are the Druid's spells any good? Also what kind of skills does the warrior have?

Well I'm not sure about the Druid, as I don't have one, and haven't much knowledge on it. But I believe at earlier levels the Warrior has an easier time with endurance. I don't know about the Druid, but I believe HP increases when you change to bearform, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think I'll go with the Warrior then. Thanks for your help. Have you played WoW before?

Yes I have. On my friend's account, I have a level 19 UD Rogue on Terenas.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

I have a 60 mage, but I'm working on my 48 warrior currently .

Warriors can do good DPS or tank, but druids can get so many different forms that they can stealth like a rogue (and do good DPS), tank like a warrior, heal like a priest, swim like a seal, run like a cheetah and some even spec to magic DPS like a mage.

Edit: They can't do the same DPS as a rogue, or tank as well as a warrior, but they're useful all around no matter what class type you need and are ultimate in PvP. Remember that though a druid in bear form couldn't kill a warrior with that in itself, the druid can switch ouit of bear form and heal and switch back.

ALL Classes have special abilities. ALL classes are fun to play and are unique. You should choose it yourself and find out what class you like to play the most.

Keep in mind the special abilities are available at a higher level, though. Also, make sure each class has it's racials related to it's race. Oh boy, there's so much to learn.
Yes there is.

Oh and by the way...I was just suggesting which one out of the two you mentioned. Since you only were picking from two, I just gave more info on the Warrior. Wasn't meant to decide for you.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

The problem with druids is that that don't specialize enough in anything to really excel in any specific area. Even if you're really smart in your spec'ing (which you normally won't, with your first character). The saying goes that druids make an great FIFTH member in any party.

I personally find warriors boring. Everything's too straight-forward. You need to carve your way through every mob, every battle is to the death, and you'll find your biggest concerns over time end up being how to patch yourself fast enough to stay alive. They're essential when dungeon crawling, but since so many people choose them as their first characters, they're a dime a dozen. Your general appeal is strictly tanking: You take the damage while the rogues, mages, hunters, etc deal all the damage. Make a point of making friends with a priest or paladin as early as possible: You're going to need them.

Personally I recommend starting two characters when you're new. One Alliance, one Horde, completely different classes. Give yourself a few different tastes early on. And everyone needs at least one rogue as an alternate.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

Druids rule, seriously they do BUT, if ye dont like getting forced into a position where you stand in the back and watch your party's health bars and healing them, i suggest going for the warrior, since the druid is great from to 59, at 60 every group will demand you to heal, which made me stop playing a druid and roll a rogue im to lazy to write more at the moment tough, but if ye pm me i might respond XD

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

World of Warcraft is one of those rare games where the classes are balanced so well that it really doesn't matter. They're all good for beginners; none are difficult to pick up. I would avoid picking a priest as your first class, but even those can solo well enough to work at first, and they're not hard to pick up.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

For me, it was the Rogue. Before I chose a character, I looked up enough basic info on each class. I chose Rogue because it's style is what appealed to me most. Also, even though I'm only level 19, I've solo'd almost as many quests as I have done in a group. So it really just depends on what appeals to you. As l-o-s said, they're all good for beginners.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

a Shadow-specced priest can wtfpwn everything, if played right sooo priest is good
but i agree with LoS its pretty balanced, so just think what you'd rather do, then choose a class, its that simple ^^

A number of reasons why I think everyone should have a rogue alt:

1. No harm in having a number of alts - No obligation to use if you don't want to.

2. Very easy to play at low levels. Become boring at high levels - that's the cue to ditch and take your education along with you.

3. They often suffer from solipsism - You're going to need to know what they can, can't, and will (though they shouldn't) do if you ever find yourself partying with one. Can't hold agro, poor armor, and are designed purely for killing what's right in front of them and saving their own skin (which typically involves abandoning everyone else).

4. They're popular - Hard to avoid partying with them unless you settle into an awesome guild. Refer to point 3.

5. Sometimes you just need a sanity walk on a PVP server.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

Play what you want, you don't need anyone else telling you what to play. WoW is fairly balanced, so pick what will be most fun to you. Leveling up, the hardest to play is a holy priest. Just because its hard to solo. You could spec shadow, but then your healing goes down considerably in dungeons. Play what you want though, don't let something like that hold you back. Personally I find mages to be the most fun.

Refer back to my mention of solipsism: Neither a priest nor a mage is going to survive long if they don't know how to play as part of a team. The same can't be said for a rogue.

I have a very specific scenario in mind: On more occasions than I can count I've seen rogues botch runs by over-estimating their sap, under-using their kick, and playing to vanish (i.e. high assassination, no combat). On the other hand I've never had a situation where a priest intentionally went out of their way to draw more agro than they could chew, then bail on the team when things went wrong... since they can't! And the best way to avoid such rogues - who'll you'll find in abundance with every LFG - is to know the signs.

Hunters, warriors, and rogues are the three most common classes, and unlike priests and mages none of them are commodity, so it's always going to be more of a stretch finding priests and mages compared to the abundance of others.

Re: World of Warcraft: Classes

as a rogue, well i tend to: spam Feint as a *bleep* its ALWAYS on cooldown, so i at least try to not get aggro (sometimes i get a little overzealous with my damage and get clubberd, but they i turn off auto attack spam feint a few times, and 99% of the time the tank ((i say tank rather then warrior because druis can tank as well )) can get aggro back so thats not big deal)
as for the rogues getting away things...vanish is handy, if i were a engineer with jumper cables you'd thank me for vanishing when there's a wipe imminent, but im an alchemist/herbalist so thats out of the question...meh id rather vanish and survive and wait for the rest to come back rather then having to pay for repairs again, maybe a bit selfish but whats the use of me dying?
