Question Zelda-likes, anyone?

Anyone knows of good Zelda-likes? You know, these games where you go around fight loads of monsters in dungeons, solve puzzles, find items, etc. Those that really have this "Zelda" feeling to them. No exp, no level up, just a simple & efficient gameplay. I find this kind of game to be sooo rare! I know very few of them. I love them all, but why are they so scarce? Or do I just happen to have missed them all? The very few I know of ( or can remember ) are :

- Blood Omen : Legacy of Kain ( PS1, best story ever, worst graphics ever )
- The Adventures of Alundra ( PS1, great graphics, great gameplay, awesome game! )
- Landstalker ( Megadrive, Alundra's predecessor, quite good actually )
- Illusion of Gaia ( SNES, don't remember, but didn't like it that much )

And... that's it!

I never found anything else that was truly Zelda-like.
Please help a poor confused gamer in distress.

Edit : Please don't refer to very old NES or Master System stuff like Gargoyles Quest, Golden Axe Quest & the like. Give me SNES games at least. I'm not looking for Secret of Mana & similars, I really want lots of puzzles & no level up. Preferably "2D" gameplay.

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

Yeah, Star Fox Adventures is a complete rip-off of Zelda when it comes to play mechanics. I can't really thing of anything else, except maybe the (*gasp*) Mana series, and the BETA version of Dark Cloud.

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

There are plenty of games that play like Zelda... take Alundra, for instance.

However, none of them capture the Zelda feel. At all.

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

I guess it would be safe that Sonic Adventure is A LITTLE like Zelda. They both have overworlds, power-ups. Rings = Hearts

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

Golden Axe Warrior is has the exact same gameplay mechanics. It was the master system rip off of Zelda, and it turned out pretty good.

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

They aren't "Zelda Like" they're all in the same genre, which is basically Action/Adventure. It's quite a limited genre at the moment, so there are going to be quite a few similarities. It's undeniable that Star Fox Adventures took more than a few ideas, but it's called appropriation.

Talking

- Golden Axe Warrior is what I meant by Golden Axe Quest ;)
- Golvellius, I was hopeless at this one. That will be a bit too old ;)
- Terranigma? Never heard of it. I take note to give it a go.
- The Mana series have got level ups, and barely any puzzles.
- Sonic Adventure? Erm, well... I'm looking for Zelda-likes here :p
- Dark Cloud? I've heard the name before, but little more. I thought it was a FF-like :x Why do you say the BETA only?
- I never "dissed" Illusion of Gaia. I barely remember it. All I know is that I didn't like it that much, but it was such a long time ago. Maybe I should give it another shot.
- Starfox Adventures, I have this one, it came with my GC :x I guess it's about time I tried it :x I played the first 10 minutes but didn't get into it that much. Then again I was probably in a hurry to go back to the Wind Waker ;)
- Alundra, as already stated, I played it & loved it. That's gotta be the best Zelda-like I've ever seen. I think it does have the Zelda feel. But it's got more, harder riddles. And it's huge, maybe bigger that LttP, or at least as big. This game is awesome. That's exactly the sort of thing I am looking for. Alundra 2 was a real disappointment :(

Yes but the Action Adventure genre as a whole is much much bigger than what I call Zelda-likes. Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Soul Reaver, Summoner, even Shenmue are Action Adventure games. They are not really Zelda-like IMHO ;)

To me the genre "Zelda-like" means :
- The players control one character and one character only at any given time. No party. Ever. NPCs can follow you or be "useable" or "possessable" ( cf Medli ), but you do not have to control their movements and everything.
- The fighting is real-time action. No turn-based. No pausing. Ever. Just fast paced action. Yay!
- Dungeons are more than a succession of monsters to kill. There are plenty of riddles, and sometimes they are quite tricky.
- There are secrets scattered all over the world, waiting for you to find them.
- No leveling up system. Your character gets stronger, faster, etc, by finding new equipment & powers & spells.

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

Two games that are yet to be released... Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (I think), and The Hobbit are both supposed to be somewhat comparable to Zelda, in terms of gameplay mechanics, that is.

Mario is a lot like Zelda, if you make mario, wear a tunic, shave his moustache, give him a sword, make him explore dungeons, turn toad into a fairy (if thats possible ) and throw in a triforce hehehe

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

Alundra is a PSOne game, quite old now. Very neat 2D graphics, reasonably good musics, and a Zelda-like gameplay that kept me glued to the console right up to the end. Loads of dungeons, loads of riddles ( some of them really really tricky ), loads of items & secrets to find. Highly recommended. LttP fans this is the game for you.

Mario? Well, same answer as to the guy who said Sonic adventure : I asked about Zelda-likes :p Please, don't mention Tetris :p

I'm currently glued to Castlevania : Symphony of the Night. It's not really a Zelda-like, it's more like a gothic Super Metroid. Great game though, I've rarely seen a game with so many secrets! It's fair to say that at least 75% of the game is hidden :x Awesome I tells you! Are the next ones in the series as good?

Bak to zela-likes, someone told me about a game called "Soleil" for the Sega Megadrive. Does anyone know of this? This is probably going to be hard to come by :x

Re: Zelda-likes, anyone?

Mario RPG. THat was a game similar I think. Or was it Paper MArio or both. At the start of Mario RPG Link is a bed next to you. Or some where in the game.
