wifi glitchs

Have any of you any had problems with Wifi. Just today I played a multiplayer match of Jump Superstars with my friends, though when the match started everones character on my screen just kept running of the sides. It happened with them too. They would see my character just kill himself. This only happened this once and was very strange. Have any of you had a wierd glitch with wifi.

Re: wifi glitchs

The cause of that occurrence, sounds like the effects of a possible short period of lag. In where the data transfer from the WiFi connection gets cut off/slows down enough to cause a distruption in the game.

It's probably nothing much, just some trivial lag...

Re: wifi glitchs

We were standing two feet from each other with no one in between, lag seems unlikely, as soon as we started the next match our battles were normal.

Re: wifi glitchs

MKDS has glitches frequently, depending on the connection of the people playing.

Sometimes karts appear to hover, fall off the track only to reappear back where they would have been normally, or jerk backwards and forwards violently.

In fact, once I was playing Rainbow Road, and it just randomly froze. I had to restart the DS. Another time it looked like someone glitched through the wall of Figure-8 Circuit, fell down into nothing, and disconnected.

I hope the Revolution handles online play better, seeing as how it's a home system and all.

Re: wifi glitchs

actually, my bad this was basic multiplayer. Though I have heard of both kinds of problems. So I guess I should change this to multi in general.

That is called lag. If you've ever played a game online, I'm sure you're accustomed to it. That is caused by an unstable connection on either the server or client end, and has nothing to do with how "good" the WiFi system is. Lag cannot be magically compensated for to simulate perfect gameplay over vast distances.

Re: wifi glitchs

Yes, but does the lag have anything to do with the power of the DS? If it does, then the Revolution would probably have less lag. If not, forgive my stupidity. I don't usually play online games.

Re: wifi glitchs

I think lag has nothing to do with the power of the system, it has something to do with the connection to the internet.

Lag is at the expense of many things. The DS's Wifi signal is helluva weak one that Nintendo created specifically for the handheld. Interference or being too far away from the router will create lag. Lag will also happen if your internet connection is too slow (*Grumbles about stupid people who were on 56k connections and would party with him when he played FFXI, lagging or disappearing out of nowhere, screwing him over*), or if the companies server's are two slow. With the DS, the biggest problem, however, is the crappy signal type it uses. That signal is one of the reasons we don't get to see full fledged features on Nintendo WiFi.

Yeah, this sort of thing happens when the DS loses track of the other DS, so on one DS someone is ahead of you and turns left (mario kart example), on the other they're behind and they turn left, so on one DS they'll turn the corner, on the other they drive straight into the wall.
Does that make sense?

Re: wifi glitchs

Well the wifi came out not to long ago so I'm sure the problems will be lessened soon, but there will still always be lag, it's unavoidable.

That's not how it works. You would be better off not making stuff up.

Nintendo WiFi's service works by sending information packets between the DS units. If a packet is lost, due to signal loss or lag, the game will continue playing with the kart staying on course. The character will pop back into it's normal position when the DS recieves the next packet, with no problem caused in between.

Not always.
Once when I was playing Advance Wars Combat mode with someone, on my DS they walked into a pipe for the whole match, and I took their HQ, on theirs they never saw me and took my HQ. This proves that sometimes games go out of synch (sp?) with each other permanently.

I'm refering to WiFi, not Wireless LAN play.

Re: wifi glitchs

I think the problem was probably the Lag you just cannot avoid it.
This is just a theory it could be that the battery pack of Ds isn't that good. Well I'm only saying this because on my psp you have to download to version3.0 or something just to play certain games. Well anyway I do notice that in Nintendo Wi-fi does have problems.
