F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

About a month ago I bought F-Zero GX completely out of faith, and... I bought one heck of a game! The Story Mode is really difficult and, even moreso, addictive. The Grand Prix mode is also difficult (well, not anymore for me) and really fun, seeing how 29 other racers make the game the most competitive racer yet for me. Even with constant boosts and attacks, I still have to try hard to get in first and stay there.

Well, after a month I beat every story mode mission on Very Hard, all Grand Prix cups on Master (including AX cup), and got all the racer's movies (with my brother's help, since getting the movies on my own would just be boring).

What do you guys think of it?

Hey Mystic, you're back. What's up?

Yeah, F-Zero GX is one badass game. Hard, but badass.

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

Heh, it was he same for me. I've always hated racers, with the sole exception of Mario Kart 64... SO I was going on faith when I bought this game

I sure wasn't dissapointed though.

I haven't done as well as you... I beat story mode on normal, unlocked a bunch of racers and the Diamond cup, and that was about it.

Of course, my fairly new FFTA may have had something to do with that

I have never gotten into Final Fantasy before, so I don't knwo much about FFTA.

I bought this with Soul Calibur 2 and I thoroughly played both. They are both excellent in their respected genres (SCII= best fighter I have ever played. F-Zero GX= best racer I have ever played).

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also unlocked every single Staff Ghost, as well as "Sounds of Big Blue". I'm pretty much done with the game, but the racing is too fun to give up yet, so I'm experimenting with different machines. I love the Golden Fox, and used it to unlock most things, mainly because its merits aren't apparent on the surface but can kick the crap out of many machines. I also like King Meteor and Cosmic Dolphin, mainly because I'm a fan of high acceleration and at least moderate boost (which is also why I like the Golden Fox). With high acceleration, you even take hairpins without much slowdown.

Now, the question is...with such a great racing game, will Mario Kart for GCN be able to hold a candle to F-Zero GX? F-Zero is the best racer for me, period, because it's all about staying competitive with boosts, physical attacks, and sheer speed. Will Mario Kart's items (and maybe Multiplayer Grand Prix, which FZ lacks) make the game good enough after such a great FZ experience?

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

I suspect that Mario Kart will be less... intense

WIth F-Zero, you get sweaty palms, expend a lot of effort, and probably sit on the dge of your seat.

With mario kart, you'll be able to sit back, relax, punch your friend in the shoulder while driving out of the corner of your eye for a second.

The game will just be two completely different experiences, hard to compare.

Not to mention that MK is far more multi-player oriented then F-Zero is.

wow, mystic... you have way too much time...

the last racing game i unlocked/beat everything on was Diddy Kong Racing, and even THAT took me a year and a half...

darn, f-zero must have been a PAIN to do that all in... a fun pain, but a pain nonetheless...

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

Yes, this game is awesome, but it's so hard that I sometimes want to shoot myself. I'm stuck on Chapter 6 (the one with the speed bomb, I think), and I just can't force myself to play it again, because I'm so afraid of losing. However, I'm still playing the GP mode...I need to get Diamond...

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

I have cleared the first three on standard, and I'm working on diamond now. In story mode I'm stuck hoplessly on 4.

It certaintly is hard, but lemming is right, it doesnt hold a matchstick up to Ikaruga.

I still haven't taken the chance to play this game. Been too busy playing FFTA or Xenosaga. Anyhow, considering the opinions of it, although minus Mario Kart, I'm not a big racer, I'll rent it and see for myself.

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

Trust me, you'll either love it or hate it. If you're the type that loves incredibly challenging games where you can't blame the controls or glitches on your failiure, where you throw the controller across the room out of frustration and then keep playing, then get this. Now. It will keep you coming back for more each time. However, if you're the type that hates things that are incredibly difficult and time consuming, I wouldn't get it. You will hate it.

In other words, a rental sounds good.

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

On Very Hard, my bro finished Chapter 4 in a few tries, and I finished Chapter 6 in two, so the difficulty partially depends on what you're good at. However, it took me about five hours of playing Chapter 7 on Very Hard to finish it, and I DON'T intend to try that again (they don't even know how to drive on Chapter 7; I leave them a lane open when I'm almost dead and they drive into ME instead). Chapter 8 is no problem at all once you know the tricks to taking the turns at high speeds without hitting the rail, as well clearing the path of a few mines on Lap 1. Chapter 9...you need a high max speed setting, so you're relying on drift turns in that one. By far, Chapter 7 is the hardest one, so don't despair!

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

i borrowed the game from my friend for a week and

unlocked diamond
beat everything on standard
beat the first 3 cups on expert
beat all of story mode
beat most story mode levels on hard
beat level 5 and level 6 on very hard from what i remember oh yeah and level 9 on very hard

also, HOW CAN YOU USE GOLDEN FOX!? when i play i need my characters to have good traction. Samurai goroh is a good character for me. a little slow at first, but he starts getting pretty fast.

Re: F-Zero GX, Most Difficult (and Fun) GCN Game Yet

The Golden Fox has hidden powers, indeed. Did you not find them? First off, in Machine Settings, I use 90% Max Speed to allow for ample control (acceleration gives tighter turning but less control). With that, the Golden Fox has great cornering AND fair control. I like machines with good acceleration because you can take some corners exceedingly fast, expecially hairpins. Once the first lap is done, Golden Fox blasts ahead of the rest with its 'A' boost power. Simple.
