The REAL FF7?

I was downloading a ROM of FF three, and was searching around the site, when I came upon this page. I've never played FF7, so I wouldn't know anything about this, but it's still intrueging.

Post your thoughts here. By the way, the site catagorizes FF3 as FF6, just so you know.

Re: The REAL FF7?

This was what Final Fantasy VII was supposed to be EARLY EARLY on, before Nintendo even decided it was going to use carts for the N64. However, when Square learned that Nintendo in fact WAS sticking with carts, when the future was in discs, they knew they would have to leave for greener pastures.

And they've done the same since then, always trying to utilize the latest technologies and pushing graphics to their end in their titles. (See Final Fantasy VIII, IX, X (at the time), and Chrono Cross) Heck! They were the only company to utilize the HDD on the Playstation 2! (The HDD had SOOOO much potential it wasn't even funny. Make up for it Sony! By using Memory Sticks as a (bigger) HDD on the PSP, and supply the PS3 with a HDD that will be used.)

And I'm not disappointed about the console change either. Square went on to make all of its greatest games on the PSX, in ways the carts of the N64 would never allow. (Multiple cds/carts/data medium, music quality, game length, and more.)

And you have to remember that was all CG material in the movies and screens. It would have looked nothing like that if it was really on the N64.

Honestly, have you ever seen a game that turned out the way the demo was? Its not the real FF7, just right before the finalizing.

About as "the real" as the Zelda demo at Spaceworld 2000, I don't think Square ever intended FFVII to be a remake of VI.

The Resident Evil Outbreak series used the HDD. So did SOCOM.

Re: The REAL FF7?

That was supposed to be FF6 on N64, I believe.

Re: The REAL FF7?

It's just a tech demo put together to familiarize the Square dev team with 3-dimensional graphics, which they had not worked with before. It wasn't ever intended to fit with any sort of real story at all, and was never intended for release. It is, however, partially responsible for Square's defection to Sony as, after that demo was produced, the team realized that the storage space necessary to achieve what they had in mind would exceed that available in cartridge format.
