Video Game Commercials (General Discussion)

Advertising in general has always interested me. In fact, I contemplated majoring in marketing when I entered college.

Obviously, video games interest me as well. Therefore, I have a keen interest interest in video gaming marketing, especially commercials. For me, this site is an absolute thrill:

It has hundreds of video game commercials, both old and new, and in several languages. I'm sure there are other sites that are similar, but this one is my favorite.

With all of these available resources at our disposal, I figured a general discussion of video game commercials would be great. I'm not going to set a clear topic for the thread. You can talk about your favorites, your least favorites, or anything relating to them.

I'll start by posting some of my favorites. Mind you, I was too young to actually watch most of these (and also in the wrong country for one):

This one absolutely cracks me up. It's a commercial for both Mario and Zelda on the Famicom in Japan. I absolutely love the insane little girl. And it's hard to deny that to an American, everything is funnier in Japanese.

This one is very creepy, but also hilarious. Ugly Little Steven's eyebrows freak me out.

This will be the last one I mention--for now, at least. I enjoy this commercial because of the extreme irony. Oh, the irony.

Some of these commercials are hilarious. Sadly, I remember some of them.

Like this one for Zelda: Link's Awakening. Early 90s rap rools.

Oh, and after watching those bleak Majora's Mask commercials, it's a wonder that anyone bought that game at all...

Probably the ocarina of time one, that was awesome. I saw it once and just begged my mum to get it ^^ i got it for my bday after that. I used to lobe playing alttp, so oot was like a dream come true.

Wow. Add the culture differences between the US and Japan, and the culture difference between the early 90's and...just...uh.

I remember Final Fantasy X's ad way before I had even heard about Final Fantasy. Though I can't find it.

Then of course, there is the completely hilarious PSP commericail with the two squirrals (all the other similar commericails are just retarded)

Yeah. Haha, I loved that PSP commercial with the squirrels. *Monotone voice* "PSP...Hells yeah".

The Japanese commercials for LttP and LA (above) make me want to cry. On one hand, it's absolutely hilarious. On the other hand, have Microsoft/Sony fans seen them? If those commercials were the first Zelda ad I saw, I think I would stay FAR away.

Turns out the first Zelda commercial I saw was the one for the Oracles, where he climbs up the vines and plays the harp and gets the sword and all that. I laughed at it, but then I got hooked on the Oracles. Quite funny.

I love video game commericals. If you haven't seen the Japanese Mario Pinball one, go check it out now. Imagine if Mario had an unlockable outfit like that.

Oh wow, you picked out two of my four favorite commercials. My other two would be Zelda related (of course):

tMC This one was shown in Britain, and by far is my favorite tMC commercial (from the three that are out there).

Oracle games it's exactly what Hylian Lemon said. Link uses the rod to change the season from winter to spring for vines to grow up a tower. He climbs up the tower and finds a broken sword. He uses the Harp of Time and the sword is re-newed to it's formal glory.

Oh... my... God... What the hell was Nintendo thinking with that commercial? I am surprised anyone in Japan bought the game after seeing that.
