Thumbs up Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

This game is HIGHLY underrated by gaming sites. It's an RPG with a phsycological bend to it (e.x.: Keep the affection points for one of your female party members high, you'll end up with that one in the end!). I, however, am doing everything to make Sophia my gal in the game. Nel is 23, Fayt is 19! Also, it seems wrong to marry Peppitta, cause she's 14! That seems wrong and unfair! Anyway, I'll stop my incessant rambling to make room for y'all. Dost thou like the game? Hast thou ever played or is wanting to play it? Ask, and ye shall recieve!

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

Yeah. I've played it. It has the best Active-Non-Turnbased Battle system out there in an RPG, even succeding over Kingdom Hearts in some areas. The whole Star Ocean series is pretty great. Too bad the titles are so few and far between.

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

I just picked it up over Xmas, and I've just reached Sulferio (sp?). Great game, great characters, better-than-decent voice acting, and a very good battle system. I didn't exactly like how the Inventions worked, but I'm working around it. Another of my qualms is that the enemies don't gradually get more difficult, but instead the enemies spike in power around the Vendeeni invasion of Elicoor III, making it frustrating to progress.

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

I saw that a while ago, thought it looked interesting. Haven't gotten it so far. Is it only for PS2? or is it for PC? Or (better yet) Gamecube?

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

It's a PS2 exlcusive, as most console RPG's are these days.

I own it, myself. Pretty excellent game. I'll admit I haven't quite gotten around to finishing it yet, though. There's a small handful of RPG's I still need to finish, for that matter.

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

I got it about a month ago, late November. The game itself is very good, I've enjoyed most of it so far, I'm at the part where Nel is captured by some group because she wen't to go rescue some of her friends. I haven't played it in a while so I can't remember, the story is pretty good, but sometimes I wonder what does all this have to do to go towards my main goal? Sometimes it feels like there are many small stories all packed into one and then they will eventually lead to the big goal. Most RPG's do this, but the way it's done in Star Ocean seems a bit vague. My only two problems with this game is the Dungeons, they seem unecessarily big and sometimes turn me away from the game because I'm always running into dead ends...but that's the life of an RPG'er. My second problem is with the music, most of the music is very good, it's just that same damn rock/metal music that they have playing in parts like a dungeon, when you are riding those giant turtle things around in the mine etc. That music gets on my nerves fast and sometimes I just mute my TV because of that annoying music.

It's an RPG. It's just not turnbased. Just like Kingdom Hearts, Radiata Stories, and Zelda are RPGs and not turn based.

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

I have Star Ocean: The Second Story for PSone. Great game, but I haven't played it in a long time. That game was underrated too. I haven't played SO3 yet though...

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

I only just got this game, and I like it best out of the ps2 ones I have. I want to recruit Sophia because I like mages best, and Peppita and Roger.

I like the character designs for Second Story better, however.

Star Ocean is very underrated, just like:
Skies of Arcadia, Shadow Hearts, Baten Kaitos, Eternal Darkness. Truely Tragic. I think Star Ocean's battle system is almost as good as Symphonia's. But it isn't fair to compare them, considering the latter came out a lot later.

I wonder why they chopped so many elements from Second Story (that game had too many if you ask me: star and light are pretty much the same thing, as are Void and vaccum. But why go from 10 to 4? They could have kept light and darkness. Ray and Southern Cross are pretty much light spells anyway.)

I hope they make a new star ocean game soon.

That's funny. Most people think Star Ocean III's battle system is the best non-turnbased battle system out there in RPGs, with Kingdom Hearts in second. (Though I'm not sure if I agree with Kingdom Hearts. II's look like it might be though.)

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

I like it, but I am honestly bored of it. I just beat the post-game not too long ago, and I had waited about 4 months after I beat the base game to do that. Level 255 Fayt + Veinslay w/ 8 30% BoP + Tri-Emblem + 30%BoP = 9999 attack and over 5000 def.

That was basically how I beat the post-game bosses, Fayt is undamagable by physical attacks with that set up.
