Revolution's Virtual Console Patent Revealed?

Quote:
...
According to the Patent, the Virtual Console bookmarks games via the characters featured in the games, or via the franchises related to them, and not boomarks games via their respective consoles, at least, not primarily.

The idea behind different character selection stems from Fig. 20, stating this:

Quote:
FIG. 20(a) the second-game-machine game program comprises the game title, the game control program, the graphics data and the sound data utilized by the game control program as described above. In addition, as shown in FIG. 20, the graphics data included in the game program is constructed by the graphics data of the character of the hero or heroine in the game (the character graphics CG1 and etc.) and the map graphics data (map graphics MG1 and etc.). As described later, the data replacement program replaces the graphics data of the character graphics CG1 included in the game program 1, for example with the video data of the character graphics CGa for replacement. Therefore, the player can play the game character different from the original hero or heroine character as the hero or heroine. In the description of the embodiment, the explanation is made on the hero or heroine character by way of example, but the present invention is not limited thereto, and it is possible to suitably change the map or other characters.
This basically means Nintendo is allowed to rip the 'graphics data' (aka textures, models, worlds, etc), and manipulate or replace them without much hassle, and the replacements can be made at will via the Character Selection Screen shown here. Its a rather ingenious idea, I mean, allowing you to chose games via their respective games franchises and characters.

I seriously encourage you guys to read the rest, trust me, its worth it

I read it all, and it both looks and sounds great. It reminds me of my modded Xbox.

how in the world does that sound bull? It's not really saying anything that computers of the 19...80's couldn't do. All it's saying is that the games a categorized in a way that is more effecient for gaming. That's basicly it. That they skipped the "choose system" area of the game selection process.

Will people stop saying the Sony stole this and that from Nintendo? Sony didn't steal the light gun, the dance pad, the Rumble Pack or the Analog Stick, okay! The Analog stick came out, way before Nintendo was into gaming. What those sticks on old arcardes like Pac-Man? Those are analog stick! Sony didn't rip-off the Dance Pad, Konami made Dance Dance Revoution, of course you are going to need a dancing pad for a dancing game. Some aracdes shooting games had light guns, before Nintendo came out with their own light gun.

The Rumble Pack came out way before the days of the Nintendo 64. Ever went to an aracade and play those racing games or the games with rowboats or jetboats? Thoses had huge, masstive rumble packs inside the manchines. Ever play with those RC Cars, aren't those controllers wireless? RC cars came out before Gamecube's Wavebird Wireless controller. If you don't get what I saying, I'm simply saying that Sony never ripped-off anyone. Saying Sony rip-ed off Nintendo shows that you don't know the history of video games that well, and you just being a fanboy, always thinking that Sony always will rip-offed Nintendo, no mater what.

You described a joystick. Analog is for the thumb. Nintendo came out with the light gun before arcade games had them. The rumble pak thing might be true, but Nintendo minimized it and put it inside a controller. DON'T ARGUE, NINTENDO CAME UP WITH EVERYTHING, EVEN ONLINE.

Sound to me like you're the fanboy here.

Um. No. You're the only one shouting about how Nintendo is so great in your eyes.

While Nintendo came up with a couple of ideas, most of the time, it was the other companies who actually put it to good use, instead of just being gimicky. Look at the next generation PS3 and PSP. Sony has already stated that there will be some level of connectivity between the two. But unlike the GBA, it'll be used for far more practical reasons than unlocking things and being used for certain games as a controller. Supposedly you'll be able to transfer files back and forth between the two devices. And since the PS3 is supposedly a functioning computer with the HDD, I can almost guarntee there will be some level of specail capabilities with transfering of media files.

Nintendo had online gaming on the NES or SNES. (Can't remember which.) Too bad most people don't even know about it though, since it was horrible. Nintendo tried it, and failed. It wasn't till Xbox Live that Online gaming was truely realized.

Nintendo DIDN'T invent the Rumble Motor for games, as mentioned above. Though it utilized it first in the mainstream. Just like I said before though, Sony saw the Rumble Pak and made it way more streamlined by making it built in in their controllers, with two motors for better feedback, and more support from games.

And Nintendo streamlined too. Look at the GCN controller. Nintendo pretty much looked at the Playstation controller, realized it worked pretty well, added the C stick instead of the second analog Joy Sticks, and made the L and R buttons analog. I remember a magazine I read which really summed this up well: "The GCN controller, which practically is the bastard child of the PSone and N64 controller..."

Give it a rest. Who cares. This is totally off topic, and the arguement can never be won with fanboys around. Notice how I'm not a fanboy. Try that sometime. I think you'll like it.

What Sony is doing is not thievery, they're simply adapting themselves to the market standard. Calling it thievery is just plain stupid.

Enough with that, seriously!

*sniff* *sniff* I think I smell Playstation fanboy-ism in the room...

W00t to Nintendo, I remember when the N64 came out with its joystick, then after that Playstation and Xbox just magically happened to get it on their controller. At least Microsoft and Sony can't steal this.

Okay, I started this, so please end it.

Yes, it was a joke. Nintendo did make all those things first, but that's not what this thread is for.

Congrats, you stopped the spam! Here's a cookie!

But anyway, yeah, the point is, sony couldn't steal it, even if you don't think they stole the other things, which they did, so stop fanboying it up and get on topic.

This will be an interesting addition to gaming, and another reason to get a Revolution.
