Re: Final Fantasy for SNES

Kefka is simply one of the greatest gaming villians ever created! How dare you insult his brilliance...

Anyway, I was introduced to Final Fantasy by VII, so I had to go back and play IV, V and VI. They are three of the best RPGs I've ever played, although VI and V have aged somewhat worse. VI is pure gaming perfection. I'd be hard pressed to find much games that are better than it.

You need to get a hold of 6, 7 and 9. Seriously, they're unbelievable.

Re: Final Fantasy for SNES

I'm not a huge fan of roleplaying games anymore, but I do enjoy playing the old SNES games now and then(I've never played any of the console games). When I think of the concept of a roleplaying game, it just makes me feel unrpoductive but its still addictive, good stuff. Final Fantasy IV(whatever, the one with Cecil in it) was good. The lack of an ATB was kind of awkward to me at times. And I found some character imbalances at times, not to mention it was kinda hard. The engine still was growing, so theres so technical issues that weren't exactly finetuned to the state you see it in today(examples fail me right now), but it was good for the most part. Not that much character customization though. And their special abilities were a little lacking, in my opinion. Final Fantasy V had a neat little job system. I didn't play it that extensively, so I couldn't say much more. On the other end of the IV spectrum though, the customization could be a little frustrating. Well, when you power leveled your characters through boredom to get said skill set and stuff. And then changing your mind and saying that said job wasn't worth all the trouble. VI was nice too. Overated, but still quite solid. Fine storyline, even if drawn out here and there. Character focus was sometimes a little awkward. But the nonlinear parts were pretty cool, along with the fairly good sized world they presented you with. Battle engine was fun too.

Re: Final Fantasy for SNES

I've only beaten FF1. I got to pandemonium in FF2 but stopped playing because I didn't feel like leveling. I've gotten about halfway through FF6, and I'm a little ways into FF9. I've always had trouble getting into rpgs because I hate turn based fighting, but I love the stories so I play them anyway, though I never get through them unless they're games where you never need to stop and level up (megaman X command mission) or if I used a leveling up game shark code.

I agree that FF6 is probably one of the best rpgs ever, though I thought chrono trigger was a bit better.

lucky! you have gameshark! Mainly i am just using a SNES Emulator to play FF3 (a.k.a in USA FF6). It is hard because the stupid thing keeps frezzing my whole computer...mabey if i Re-Install it'll work.

Hmm. Is it a RAM shortage? Emulators don't take that much RAM anyways. Even with about 256 megs, it would only crash if I was connected to the internet and I was on my browser. Emulators have the almighty speed button though. Dosen't work that great in battles(because of the ATB), but its great in cutscenes and paths where you don't need to have careful maneuvering. You can input codes into emulators anyways, I think. Or hack into states to manipulate everything. I don't have enough technical skill to do it, but meh.

You should be using ZSNES if your emulating SNES, it has a built in gameshark too, by far the best SNES emulator, and it has never crashed on me.

Re: Final Fantasy for SNES

I don't have the acuall cartridge but I have Final Fantasy Anthology on my PS. I love 5. Although I've quit playing it so I can play 8.

I like changing my job for my people and making Knights with magic and stuff like that. Very fun game. Although I don't know if I'll ever get around to beating it...

Re: Final Fantasy for SNES

I had Snes9x and it worked just fine. I played almost through FF6, but i think FF5 was better, just because it had better playability, but if you want great music and story, FF6 is the way to go. You could play them both though...
