BEST Nintendo RPG?

I think that Tales of Symphonia was the best ever, its got co-op and real time RPG elements-=-not to mention the huge amount of replay vaule

Second is probably Mario RPG and third Secret of Mana because of co-op RPG

I have to go with chrono trigger, and tales of phantasia.

ooh...i totally forgot that Chrono was a original Nintendo title (right?) and i never played Phantasia-=- is it the new one for the PSP or an old one?

tales of phantasia(SNES) was the first title in the "Tales" series, personally, no Tales game has yet to match it's greatness. I don't beleive chrono trigger to be an original nintendo franchise simply because chrono cross was made on the PS1.

Chrono Trigger was by Squaresoft, and TOS by Namco... so considering the Nintendo titles... I guess Fire Emblem and Golden Sun are my best choices O.o

If we want to get technical and say that it has to be a product of a Nintendo development team, then I'd easily go with Fire Emblem 7, of what I've played from the series. One of the best long-running RPG's out there, easily.

If we're just talking about things released on Nintendo consoles, I'd have say it's a tough choice between Tales of Phantasia and Chrono Trigger. Earthbound's up there, too. Quite the unique game, that.

haha..Earthbound, I was playing that a while ago-=-kinda sad that you cant control the other characters, you can't see yourself in battle, and everything set to the "A" button I think...but non-the less...a very good, very funny RPG spoof-like game

Earthbound was awesome. Alas, I only ever played a ROM version of it, and don't have it now, but for the short time I had with it, I loved it. Has anyone played Faxanadu? I'm not sure how it's spelled, something like that, for the NES or SNES? Everybody tells me it's the greatest RPG ever, but I've never played it!

Final Fantasy VI without a doubt. It still holds up as one of the greatest games ever created. It's story and characters were brilliant, the ability system was spot on and it contains simply the greatest soundtrack in gaming history. Not only is it the greatest RPG on a Nintendo console, it's the greatest 2D game as well.
Chrono Trigger would be a very close second. After the SNES most of the best RPGs were found on the Playstation, but Paper Mario: TTD and Golden Sun deserve a mention.

Im still Partial to the original Paper Mario.

Forever Paper Mario, that will always stand in my mind as a great RPG. Oh, and Mario and Luigi, I can't wait for the sequal.

I'd say Fire Emblem 7 or 9. And The Paper Mario games are great... Golden Sun I like a ton.

Definitely Super Mario RPG. While Paper Mario can also be classified as an "RPG," I think Super Mario RPG is probably a better representative of the genre. The game is great. Fantastic story, dialogue, challenge... And the game is fun too.

And Geno = teh shizz. I really wish we'd see another appearance by him.

Oh it's definatly Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles, it's got four-player multiplayer and an awesome story line, and some of the best in-game music ever. I don't care about everyone complaining about needing four gameboys, it totally rocks.

I'm such a newb to the series, but this game is so awesome.

It's gotta be Golden Sun I and II. Both are fun, and use a distinct power-up thing, the Djinn. It's the best, dude. I wish I could give you more details, but I'm bored right now.

For Nintendo First Party games I would say the orignal Earthbound for the NES(The wonders you can do with emulations) Paper Mario, Mario RPG, Pokemon, and the Fire Emblem series.

Earthbound: Great Japan-only RPG, although a bit kiddie and too short. L beat the game in less then two days. Many people never heard about the orignal Earthbound, becaus, well, it only came out in Japan.

Paper Mario: The "sqeaul" to the hit Super Mario RPG. Translated the 2-D character design with 3-D worlds, prefectly. Although not your every-day turn-based RPG, it's a very good
