Re: Official Wii/Friend Code Thread

What are friend codes exactly and what to you use them for? Are they basically usernames in the world of Wi-Fi gaming?

Re: Official Wii/Friend Code Thread

Eh, in a way. For every DS Wi-Fi that you buy you create a name for it. So say I make my name "Sizzlin" for Mario Kart DS, that is my name for that game and that game alone. This doesn't mean that I couldn't use this name for say Animal Crossing, but what it means is I simply have to make a new game for each game.

What I talked about above is not the friend code. The friend code is a randomlly created number (I'm not sure how many digets) that is made for your particular game. People have to exchange eachothers friend codes for them to add eachother to their lists.

Since Nintendo's Wi-Fi feature has yet to be released to the 'general public' I'll give you a little run-down as to what Friend Codes are. For every Nintendo DS game you get you have to create a name. Along with this name you create, a Friend Code is randomly generated for you. The only way you can add people to your friend list for that particular game is by exchanging friend codes. That means that each player must have eachothers' code.

Mario Kart DS comes out this monday in America, so that means anyone who gets it then would be able to post their friend code right away. I for one will be getting it the day it releases so I may be the first to post. I know nothing can be done with this thread at this particular time, but be patient. Within a couple of days you could have many friends from ZU on your Friend List for DS.

As I stated before this thread is used for any and all DS Wi-Fi games. Simply state whichever game the friend code is for and if someone wants to add you they can. You would also have to add them too, so it's not guarenteed they will be your 'friend'. I can also keep the front page updated with all users' friend codes for easy access.
Kinda kills alot of my Mario Kart DS thread, but that's okay. I forgive you. Though it would be nice to have a distinquishing link in the first post directing people to the Mario Kart DS for discussion of the game.

Hm. You would think Nintendo would just give you the nickname that you have in your DS's settings.

How would this thread kill the discussion for your thread? Sure, Mario Kart DS is going to be released first but remember this thread is for any and all DS wi-fi games. There's nothing wrong with people posting their friend code in your thread, but this way it keeps things more organized and more accessable.

This thread is not about disscussion as yours is. Your thread is made for general discussion on Mario Kart DS, mine is about giving out your friend code for any DS wi-fi game.

Aye. Never mind. I was thinking this thread was going to be used for planning of online events and etc. using the Friend Codes.

No not really. I suppose that could happen in this thread but it also could happen in yours. There could be a whole new thread created for that sort of thing, who knows. Whatever no big deal. Bottom Line: I need Mario Kart DS.

I'm certain I read somewhere that the 'friend codes' are the unique numbers on the back of the DS, under the barcode. In which case, mine is NU40063342

I don't think so...I thought I read some where that you get your friend code assigned when you get the game, and the code could be reassigned again by changing some settings, not staying at a constant number. Or at least...Something along those lines.

I'm sure it will be clear when we get the game, ie. it will say USERNAM: Technoguy (that's mine), FRIENDCODE: F856R23, something like that, i'm sure it will be right there, like you wont have to go looking for it.

Nope. It is unique for every game that has wi-fi, as I stated. For any information on friend codes click HERE.

Edit: Well it looks as if the game will most likely be shipped tomorrow and not actually be avaliable until....tuesday. Of course. That's so dumb, I hate shipping days, why must you get my hopes up?

HA! Mine's "Processing" Right now at Gamestop.com. It'll be shipping tonight, with overnight shipping. I hate shipping days too. That's why I decided to go with the reserving. No fruitless trips to Target and Walmart every day. (Not to mention that both stores STILL don't have Metroid Pinball, which was released over two weeks ago.)

It's written in NOM UK.

It says "To set up a friend on your 'Friend Roster', you simply tell him the unique MAC code that's printed on the bottom of your DS. Once they're on your list, you can challenge them to a game any time."

I would think that you have set up a friend roster for every WiFi combatible game, but I think the codes are all the same (the MAC Code on the bottom of your DS).

I haven't read anything about an in-game unique code though (in the magazine that is =P).

Awesome! I'll be getting my copy tonight. It looks as if you are the first person on ZU to get the game. Lucky....I better get this damn game tonight. I'll submit my friend code right away. I'm hoping everyone else will as well.

Edit!!! Just got my friend code to work. 408081 373996. Look at the first post for an up to date list of everyone's code. Awesome.

Re: Official Wii/Friend Code Thread

I'll be on in a couple of days. I still have to get a wireless router. I also think that this thread warrants a sticky. It is very useful, and it is basically the Nintendo equivalent of the Xbox Live Gamer Tag sticky. This thread is completely necessary for playing people from ZU online, which I absolutely cannot wait to do.

Re: Official Wii/Friend Code Thread

Added you Lemming. Bad news though. I screwed up my mom's router somehow because of my DS. She is so pissed at me and I'm not allowed to use it ever again....damn...the thing is how would she know if I was using it? It's not like she can ban me from playing my DS. Still, thats not the problem. The problem is the only way I can play the wi-fi connection is if I alter the router. I can't do this because I would get caught and screamed at somemore. (She had to use her laptop for work, oops. Definitly not good.)

It looks like I'm gonna have to order that Nintendo USB thing. Anyone know how it works, where to get it?

Re: Official Wii/Friend Code Thread

I finally got my online to work, and it's amazing. I love it. I'm 4-1 somehow even though I did 8 races in all (2 grand prixs). Anyone know what's up with that? I don't really get it? I think maybe a first place counts a win and a loss is last place? I guess, I don't know. Please Excuse me, I'm gonna go play somemore online!!! Everyone add me. I've added both Mr. Wonderful and Lemming
