RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

RPG Maker. Has anyone tried playing it? If so, post your story ideas and post help for me because there is some stuff I still don't know how to do.

Is there a way to change something in the room (say, you push a lever and a door opens) without having to tranfer the player to same room right where they stand? Because if you do that, you have to copy and paste the room you'll and probably end up redoing the entire dungeon just to change the door object from close to open.

See? I need help. BADLY. I've got a strange gut feeling that this thread won't catch on.

I don't know how but I'm pretty sure one of the events could fix that.

There is an event to move the event, like you make something move, I think you can only do it with that event though, like moving a ladder that you clicked.

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

Do you know how to use switches. Switches can do that.
You need to know switches, or else you will not get far at all.
It takes a long time to explain switches, so look it up in the help file. I think it's called 'switches for dummies'.

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

I knew it probably had something to do with switches or something like that. Thanks!

Maybe so, but if you use Gamemaker you get a lot more features and if you want to learn to program it's a good first step.
MMF is pretty good too.

Ahem, I need a better explanation of variables than GameMakers tutorials could give me... :embrsd:

I have no clue what MMF is.

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

The help section explains what switches are, it just doesn't tell you how to use them. I figured I'd try "self-switch", but it turns out that if you use self switch, the event disappears. I'm trying to make a common event that changes the object's looks, but there's no event for that. I'm still stuck.

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

I was going to download that today, but one of the mirrors didn't work for me.

I had no idea what it said when I downloaded from the other mirror.

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

I downloaded the most recent version of Gamemaker (6.1, I think) but I can't get the objects to move. (*PM me if you can give me help*)

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

There's no solution to my problem. Switches don't help me a bit (I learned how to use them). RPG Maker XP doesn't have what I need to help me.

Re: RPG Maker XP/2003/whatever.

I used to use it like crazy back in 2001/2002. I stopped. I used to use RPG Maker 2000, but I just lost interest. I knew a bunch of coding and had a CMS planned out and almost implemented, but I just stopped.
