FFIII DS, V & VI GBA announced.

http://www.gpara.com/news/05/10/news200510059884.htm

It basically says:

Final Fantasy III for the DS will be out in 2006, and will be a 3D/polygonal remake.

FFV & VI for the GBA have yet to be dated.

Re: FFIII DS, V & VI GBA announced.

I really don't know what to say about the FFIII news. The 2 new screens released are terrible quality.

Anyways..Woot for the FFVI remake with extras. Hopefully they don't butcher the difficulty. Woot for FFV too I guess, since it is probably one of the more underrated FFs. I never fully completed either of them, since other games have always stolen my intrest. (Though I did get a good part through VI)

Hooray for finally receiving the only entry missing outside of Japan! That brings the grand total of reasons for me to to purchase a DS up to five. =D

Not too thrilled about the other releases, seeing as I already have both released versions of VI and I have V from buying Anthology.

Port Super Mario RPG, Square~! I will love you forever if you do.

Yay. The graphical addition for Final Fantasy III seems spiffy but I'm a little confused on what that exactly refers to at the moment(Dawn of Souls included the actual first two and I've seen III interchanged with VI but never II and ...well, that seems like the case). The graphical goofiness has always been refreshing, but yeah, this is great. I'm not really too hyped but interesting nonetheless.

The game's copyright is held by both Nintendo and Square, according to the U.S. Copyright Office. So it'd require a bit more then just Square wanting to do so.

In a situation like this, I'm not entirely sure how it all works out, but since Nintendo owns the Super Mario franchise I'd assume they have more control then Square.

Is this remake of III the US or Japanese 3? I'm assuming the Japanese one, which is unfortunate since VI is the only one I actually care about.

Re: FFIII DS, V & VI GBA announced.

Well aware of that, but a good point nonetheless.

The remake is of the Japanese III. I'm quite excited myself, getting to play the last available classic Final Fantasy for the first time. I suppose it won't be authentic, what with the revamp of the graphics and whatnot, but it's still spiffy.

Re: FFIII DS, V & VI GBA announced.

Would anybody care to explain to me the confusing English/Japanese FF chronology? This is my take at it. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

I - US and Japanese releases are under the same name.
II - Same name. But English initial release was in the Dawn of Souls package. English II is also known as the one with Cecil and gang.
III - I have no clue which Japanese release this is. English III is the one with Terra and gang.
IV - No idea. I've seen it refered to the one with Cecil though.
V - This only seems to apply to Japan. And thus, this is the one with Barf/Bartz.
VI - Terra and gang's game.

Re: FFIII DS, V & VI GBA announced.

You've got most of it right, if not all. Worded a bit strange, though.
  • We saw I released in both countries.
  • The original II and III were released in Japan, not elsewhere. II was later released in the Final Fantasy Chronicles PS1 bundle and again as Dawn of Souls for the GBA. Now we're finally seeing a release of III on the DS.
  • IV was the game with Cecil as the main character. Released as II in English.
  • V is the game with Bartz and the job system. It was released in English with VI in the Final Fantasy Anthology package.
  • VI is the game starring Terra and everyone, yes. It was initially released in English as III.

That should sum it up.
