DS touch screen

Do you have to use the touch screen for every game on the DS?

Re: DS touch screen

No you do not. Some games hardly use it at all and simply stick with the D-Pad. The touchscreen makes it better though. Trust me.

I'm not sure if this should be a thread...

It's a fairlky legitamate question...

The answer is no, it's not used for every game. Some games use it all the time(Kirby Canvas Curse, Nintendogs) some games make their use optional(Super Mario 64 DS, Advance Wars(except for combat mode)).

Are there any of them that don't use it at all? I'm not sure. >_>

Re: DS touch screen

The touchscreen is what makes the DS a unique system though. Without it, it is just a cheaper, weaker, less capable PSP. Personally, I think the buttons on the DS are too small and close together and I don't like using a D-pad for 3D games.

The touchscreen works brilliantly for some games. Games like Meteos and Nintendogs are only possible on the DS.

I love your custom title Hoopy Frood!

Re: DS touch screen

Yea, I never use the Touch screen for games like Asphault Urban GT and RidgeRacer DS. Racing games with the touch screen would be kinda akward.

Re: DS touch screen

Ok let me ask you this, would you make a DVD player and have it not play DVD's, like Shieky said, it is what makes the DS the "DS".

Re: DS touch screen

No, not all DS games use the touch screen, though in some cases, it's a good thing. Most games out there try to incorperate the touch screen in some way, but in the end, it feels more like a gimmick than something that actually ties into the gameplay. (Examples: Super Mario 64 DS, Rayman DS, etc.)

Though there are some games that incorperate the DS touch screen effectively, such as Kirby: Canvas Curse, Meteos, Feel the Magic and Nintendogs. But most games right now are just cheap ports of older gaming consoles that fail to take use in some of the innovations the DS hardware has to offer. Though I forsee in the near future some good games for the DS.

So to answer your question, no. Not all games us the touch screen.

Another Code uses both the D-Pad and the touch screen.

Re: DS touch screen

the touch pad is very handy on mario 64 because it is 3D it is easier to use than the buttons which are only limited in directional movement.

Re: DS touch screen

The DS reminds me a lot of the Game and Watch games back in the old school days. I personally don't have a DS and don't really want one. My friend let me borrow his and I really can't play w/ that thing (lol). The touch creen is pretty cool though. OH! and to further answer your question, the old gameboy and gameboy advance games don't use the touch creen at all, only DS cartridges.

Re: DS touch screen

Not really no.

The touch screen does make gaming better, but you can use the D-Pad if you want to. I think most games come with an option to use either D-Pad or Touch screen.
