Angry Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Some little kids just don't appreciate the fact that classics are good games too. For example, on my bus, this one little kid brings on his DS (1st grade) and the other kid brings on his SP (3rd grade). The kid with the SP is playing Super Mario Bros. 3. I told him that I have the same game on the SNES (I called it the old version). So the 1st grader says "Haha the old version sucks." The old version is better in my opinion, but back on topic. I bet they didn't even know that most Super Mario games on the GBA and A Link to the Past were remakes. The same for Super Mario 64 DS. I still remember being like 4 and my family's NES broke But I had fun playing Super Mario Bros. and shooting those ducks in the head (I used to put the gun to the screen and cheat). This probably does not apply to all little kids.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Actually, I agree, but I must say that most kids are like that. The ones that are mainly spoiled anyway. They seem to say that everything that is old is rubbish, crap, sucks, etc.

They need to learn about the past, and how these games came into existance. That is what gamers should do IMO. Learn about a franchise they're interested in.

Hey, just say if it wasn't for these "sucky" games, they wouldn't even been playing that game.

But really, Kids need to appreciate older games more. Take my comeback. Really, if these "sucky" games (including Pong) didn't exist, the FPS that the XBox and new game fanboys wouldn't exist.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Wow...for the first time in my life I feel....old!
Anyway, this sort of thing is inevitable, especially for the kids who may have started playing games with this generation of consoles. I mean, I was amazed when I discovered that Mario 64 was going to be condensed into handheld form, but what with the PSP, kids aren't going to appreciate stuff like that. I'd imagine that kids who really consider themselves gamers would go back and check out some of the older titles.

lol.... with todays fancy graphics and sexy handhelds. Kids just think those older games are "old" and are just way beyond them.... When we played those games it was the lastest and amazing

Kids theese days say that because they don't like the "crappy" graphics. The graphics on AOL were revolutionary for the time IMO. Now adays, kids want "shiny 3-d graphics".I pitty them

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Heh, damn spoiled rotten kids. They took everything for granted. Their parents bought them expensive gaming systems and they thought they earned it. They don't! They were supposed to slave in school for hours and study their butts off. They were supposed to do physical trainings like swimming, basketballing, and even running. They were supposed to play with their toy cars (no offense to ones that still do play toy cars, I know how addictive they can be).

But no. Time has changed for better or for worse (mostly the latter part). Bah, it's annoying me right now to see kids acting so spoiled and laughing ones that truely appreciate older generation systems, games, and parental guidances.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Where are they going to get a system to play them on?

If their brothers and sisters grew up with them they would already be playing the SNES and NES as they would of seen them play it, but these kids who grew up without brothers and sisters and parents who don't know anything about gaming (tis true my mum always calls it a Nintendo Playstation).

Lol... "Son, are you playing that Nintendo Playstation again? Why are the discs so tiny? This is not a normal PS, son. 'tis very strange indeed."

Imagine the day that Nintendo and Sony team up together in the gaming industry. Oh god. Think of the probabilities.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

HEY HEY HEY! not all kids hate classic games. I could still be considered a little kid, and I love the classics. I own a Sega Genisis with 6 or 7 games, and my friend has an NES with 4 games (he had like 40, but they were stolen). Overall, I love the classics, I go to his house reguraly, just to play his NES. My other friend loves his SNES to death (He won't let me play it he loves it so much).

Although I admit that most of the children my age would much prefer GC to NES, I have to disagree with them. Not all children hate the classics guys.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

* in old man voice* Kids these days and their new fangled 3d graphics, I remember back in my younger days, when we had no confounded joysticks, and games consisted of timed jumps or a snazzy storylines. We even had the occasional good ole butt kicking fighter. No appreciation I say. *end old man voice*

But seriously. These are young kids, their going to say the old games suck. They usually dont know anybetter, Kids nowadays expect everything to be all shiny with 3d graphics and such. Its the new generation, they never got to experiance the birth of gameing. When they get older and the games their playing now become classics, their kids are going to say that the games we have now suck, and their going to think the same thing were thinking. No appreciation for the classics.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Have you heard of a kid who would watch Citizen Kane?

Same concept, I think. And yeah, I don't like those people myself. But I kind of belong in their age group and I don't loathe the "obsolete" things of the past. I really try to apperciate the value that they have and I'm sure I'm feel very old. And people wonder why I primarily play SNES emulators all day. They can't be considered groundbreaking by today's standards, but of course, you gotta take a broader prespective of things. And as people have mentioned, they provided the stepping stone for that. Do you think a guy could have created the first sword before stone knives first?

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

There was this at the J-High. The J-High is in the middle of town so most kids get dropped off there, including kids from elementary. I was walking home, and noticed some kids that were arguing about which Sonic game was the best. One kid said Sonic Adventure 1, the other said Sonic Adventure 2. They were obviously Gamecube owners, as they were also talking about which one had better controls. (stupid, huh?)

Well anyways, I stepped in and said that Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis was the best. At first, they tried to think of what system I was talking about. Let me remind you that these kids were in fourth grade, and this happened last year so it was a really fat chance that they had ever played the origionals. They simply said, and I quote, "The old games sucked. The new games are 3-D, that means their better." I tried to correct them, but you know how stubborn some little kids can be.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

i know what you mean, kids link poorer garphics to poorer difficulty but that is just the opposite.
the only person that should have the right to say that 2d olds school games suck are those that have beaten both LOZ second quest and Aol, i for one can't even get to the great palace without losing all of my lives on the way.

I'm 12... not really little... but I DO remember thinking like that... I prefer 2-D now though. And most of the time I play remakes or just re-releases. I agree with you that the old sonics are far better than the new... I hate the new ones...

While it is true that the graphics do suck in comparison to their newer counterparts, it's strictly unfair to use that kind of that logic to judge a game's true worth.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Very true, alot of my friends, who claim to be ''serious gamers'' have no idea what they are talking about. They claim the older, classic games suck, just because ''t3h graphiks r t3h gay, lololloooll''. Ugh they have such shallow opinions, oh and by the way, they happen to be freshmen in high school.

Re: Some little kids don't appreciate classic gaming/systems.

Well I see it as this. If the game is good then it's good, if a game is bad then it's bad, either if it was made in 1980 or it was made in 2005. But these days people can be 'tards but it's really not their fault. They are influenced by pop culture and new things. People jump to conclusions without makeing observations. A lot of people at my school will say that something is gay when they don't like it, which is really immature and it pisses me off because they haven't actually gotten into it to have a better judgement. But I guess they will always be like that.
