Top 25 PS1 games

Gamespy.com just did a top 25 PS1 games of all time. I though I'd post the link just in case anyone's interested. To be honest, I'm not too impressed with the list. No.10 should have been No.1 and Tony Hawk's had no place anywhere in the top 25. The game that got No.1 is undeniably deserving of the title, but there's a a lot of games absent from that list that should of been there, and even more games that I felt didn't deserve a place.
Here's the link- http://ps2.gamespy.com/articles/649/649048p1.html

Re: Top 25 PS1 games

That was, without a doubt, the worst "top # games ever" list I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

The fact that the likes of Tony Hawk were placed above Final Fantasy VII and Tactics baffles me. There's no way anyone in their right mind could think a lousy TH game better than Tactics. And where is Xenogears? There's your #1 game, right there.

Worst. List. Ever.

Re: Top 25 PS1 games

Yeah, I know! Tony Hawke's above VII is pretty much sacreligous. Still, at least it had a deserving No. 1 (even though Metal Gear isn't as good as any of the FFs that was released for the PS1). Also, I'm glad Tomba (Tombi to me) got in there! That's one of those games that I felt no one played be me. It was so overrated!

MGS owns all FFs on the PS1, except for FF7.

Re: Top 25 PS1 games

Yeah, I suppose the list wasn't all that bad. They were also smart enough to include Vagrant Story.

Re: Top 25 PS1 games

I mostly agree with the list. A few differences in opinion, but I can see where they're coming from. It was keen seeing Vagrant Story place as high as it did. That game deserves a lot more of a fanbase, not to mention a sequel. Shocking to not see the first Resident Evil on the list, but I do have to concede that I spent more of my own time gushing over the second game.

I absolutely adored FF7 and tactics, but to be honest, both were rough for production values, both for Square's rocky state at the time and Sony's piss-poor job of localization.

Re: Top 25 PS1 games

That list was pretty horrible. The only reasonable one is Metal Gear Solid. It deserved that spot but, FF7 is way better. Here is my top 5.

Final Fantasy 7
Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo 2
Tony Hawk 2
Crash Bandicoot

Man, that list really got credibility with me when I saw that FFVII wasn't number one. And that's total seriousness, not sarcasm.

Anyway, the list defineatly included the really good stuff. Makes me want ot play Symphony of the Night again.

Wow...that is a really bad list in my opinion. Metal Gear Solid at number one....maybe 3 or 4 but not number 1 come on. All I have to say is FF7 not in the top 5....horrible. Just horrible. I never really liked Gamespy anyways :p

What can you expect, it's Gamespy...

Although I don't disagree for a second about Metal Gear Solid, that game was awesome.

Re: Top 25 PS1 games

I can't say I'm familiar with Gamespy. I use Gamespot and RPGamer for all my news.

Looking back through the list, I realise that I've played few of those games. That, or I hate the genre and assume that I wouldn't like it. Quick to jump the gun on the "worst-list ever" comment, perhaps, but my point stands.

I really don't see how a puzzle game, PaRappa or Tony Hawk can out do Final Fantasy Tactics, nor do I think Xenogears should have been omitted. (Extreme) Difference of opinions, I suppose.

It always is a matter of opinions, and opinions can be biased. I agree that Xenogears shouldn't have been omitted. Final Fantasy Tactics also kicked. They're obviously going with the games played by the general audience, among those who can't think for themselves...

Quoted for emphasis. Vagrant Story sucked.

That's a bit harsh. Sure, it wasn't perfect (well, its story was) but how can you say that it sucked when it is clearly vastly superior to the the majority of games that are released these days.
The thing about Vagrant is that it requires so much time and attention. If you don't use your weapons correctly you probably will come to a point in the game where you're just plain unable to win. It's the perfect example of a game that you need to give some time, then it pays off.
