News Corp Buying IGN

http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000963057921/

Apparently, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has bought IGN in a $650 million deal. I'm not sure what changes, if any, there will be at IGN. Fox Interactive, which is owned by News Corp, develops games such as No One Lives Forever and I can't help but be a tad worried that IGN might be a bit biased when reviewing games from the developer. Although, the more I think about it the more it seems that it's something that probably won't happen.

Is this buy out a good or bad thing for IGN? Is this a good or bad thing for gamers? Post your thoughts here.

Re: News Corp Buying IGN

Friggin' News Corp. bought IGN? Damnit.

Is this a good or bad thing for gamers? I'm inclined to say it's a terrible thing. If such a digustingly biased news source owns one of, if not the biggest gaming news sites on the net, one can only imagine what kind of suggestive power they could hold in the market.

Good thing I don't use IGN, I guess.

Oh wow, Murdoch acquired MySpace too! HAHA! I needed a good laugh today. Good riddance, I say. =P

As long as there will be less ads on IGN.

Wait, no, there'll probably be more.

Good for IGN, bad for us. When one company controls too much of the media...

Heck, I had enough of a problem with IGN owning half the major online gaming properties. Not to mention owning the likes of Rotten Tomatoes. And there's always the fear of having it go Snowball again, dropping support for half of its properties suddenly.

Meh...I have a subscription to IGN, but really only for the exclusive videos. Hi-Res Zelda clips...very nice.

I don't especially care. Honestly, I don't think it will change all that much. IGN has good, honest reviewers (though not as good as Gamespot's IMO) and I cannot see them churning out biased reviews to please their parent company.

Big deal. I don't go to IGN unless I am linked there, and even so there are plenty of other sites like IGN out there, altough I liked how IGN seemed to have material no other site did.

EDIT: I wrote that I go to IGN unless I am linked there, I mean that I don't go there unless I am linked there.

Re: News Corp Buying IGN

I love IGN and this merger prob will put a little biast slant on somethings on the web page. I wish I was an Insider, I bet there is a bunch of cool crap to see. The best thing about IGN is the wishlist and game collection. Only after IGN did that did other pages start to make that feature, I think IGN is the best game web page and I go there daily for my news as well as use the wishlist and game collection (I'm lordyoshi on IGN also)

Re: News Corp Buying IGN

Bleh.

I'm kind of going with what Hoopy Frood said. We can always go to GameSpot. I never go to gaming sites..that's what I have EGM for. :/ Though, if I'm in dire need of a review score or something, then I'll check a site.

I've always said GameSpot was better than IGN. Now I just have more proof. XD

Re: News Corp Buying IGN

As long as IGN provides us with some great content and news I will be fine. Maybe the bias review crew will be replaced! YES!

Mario Kart Double Dash does not deserve a 7.9...seriously, come on.

Holy cow, you have to be kidding me. A 7.9????

That's unbelievably biased.
