RE4 Thread

Alright guys, my problem never really was solved, but I beat the game again, and this time, no glitchish happening. So anyway, this thread is now here to help you people obtain special weapons, or gain more specific numerical data on any specific weapon in the game. So, if any questions regarding weapons, hell: anything about RE4, just post it here.

Due to some dispute on the special weapons, I've decided to add the weapons section of the BradyGames Official Resident Evil 4 Strategy Guide. I'll skip all the charts and common weapons, because you people should know enough about them. Instead, I'll just add the description of that particular section. Any bonus weapon is listed, which is the sole purpose of adding it. The guide only offers 'other information' on the weapons catergorized 'special,' but I put it in there anyway...

Quote:
Handguns
The handgun category includes all small firearms compatible with the 9mm parabellum Handgun Ammo. Handguns fire once each time the fire button is pressed. While the handguns are generally the weakest weapons in terms of firepower, they are extremely accurate. Handguns tend to be useful throughout the game for breaking open crates, setting off traps, and shooting switches or levers that are out of reach. Because ammunition for handguns is the most plentiful in the game, always keep a handgun ready in case ammunition for other weapons runs out.

Matilda
Price: 70,000
Available for Purchase: Replay Game
Exclusive: 100 capacity quantity
Additional information: The Matilda is a handgun that can fire three standard handgun shots at a time. It consumes ammo faster, but enemies can be downed with less shots. It's exclusive is very useful, as it consumes shots faster.

Shotguns
Shotguns include assault rifles that fire standard 12-guage Shotgun Ammo. These weapons have much greater power than handguns, and they emit a cone-shaped blast when fired, damaging multiple enemies with a single shot. For this threas, it is easy to fall in love with shotguns because they tend to keep crowds and stronger enemies at bay. However, reserving a shotgun for emergency situations is important. When entering a crowded area, use the shotgun to blast the group. as enemies die and only a few stragglers remain, equip a handgun and pick them off individually. Conserve shotgun ammo, as it is harder to come by in the game.

All shotguns inflict greater damage at closer range. Therefore it's wise to stand ready with your shotgun aimed, and wait for enemies to cluster up and close in on you. Sometimes a single shotgun plast fired at close range can eliminate several enemies simultaneously.

Magnums
Magnums fire all .45 caliber Magnum Ammo. A single macnum shot is powerful enough to eliminate frequently encountered enemies such as villagers, cultists, or commandos. But because Magnum Ammo is found so rarely in the game, it's wasteful to use it on common, less powerful foes. Magnums are best used in boss battles, agaisnt powerful creatures that appear only once in the game. Link handguns, magnums are incredibly accurate, so aim each shot carefully. Magnums tend to have smaller magazine capacity, due to the larger bullet size, and their heavy recoil results in a slow rate of fire. But you're sure to inflict big hurt on whatever you shoot with a magnum!

Rifles
In a few areas of the game, Leon enjoys the luxury of a sniper rifle with a scope. In certain parts of the game, using a rifle makes subsequent areas easier to survive. All rifles fire .223 caliber Rifle Ammo, which is only a little less scarce than Magnum Ammo.

Special
Certain weapons are nto easily catergorized. Sme of the weapons in this group are available in an initial play-through, while others become available only after beating the game at least once.

Handcannon
Price: 0
Available for Purchase: Replay Game
Exclusive: Infinite Ammunition and Firepower
Additional Information:
The Handcannon is a .50 caliber magnum revolver of the type cherished by one Barry Burton. Speaking of Barry, how could he be missing out on a weapons bonanza like the one in this game? While the initial price is a bargain, the upgrades will empty your pockets. Raising each level of the weapon costs a ton of pesatas. Until you can afford the Exclusive upgrade to infinite ammo, this non-reloading weapon mainly takes up space in your inventory. However, if you have beaucoup bucks to spend, this is the kind of present to yourself that just keeps on giving.

Infinite Launcher
Price: 1,000,000
Available for Purchase: Replay Game
Additional Information:
The infinite rocket launcher is identical to the normal rocket launcher, except it can be reloaded and fire an unlimted number of times. Blast your way through large crowds in seconds. Just be sure to fire at targets from long range, or Leon could suffer in the blast.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

Well to my knowledge, you cannot start a round 2 game on professional if the first round was on normal difficulty. When you choose professional, you start a new game. Hopefully you didn't save over your old file with a bare-bones new game like I did. Check out this horror story:

I FULLY upgraded all my weapons (Striker, Red9, Semi-Auto Rifle, Broken Butterfly, TMP) and started a round 2 file, saving over the original file. After getting bored with kicking so much ganado ass with all my pimped out weapons, I decided I wanted to start a pro mode save. Reaching the first typewriter, I wasn't paying attention and saved over my old file! I can imagine my face was looking pretty pale just then.

Ah well. It's because of this that I decided to take a long-needed break from RE4 and get into the REmake which I barely even started before. I'm having a "fun" time with that. One question, why is it so hard to decap zombies with a SHOTGUN?! I hate those crimson heads, but I can't carry fuel and a lighter with me everywhere I go! My strategy is using flame rounds on the necessary zombies. Guaranteed crispy.

Why do you want your first experience with TP to be a mirrored one?
The GC version is superior overall - admit it.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

Never played the REmake.

I didn't understand a single thing you said? Once you beat the game, Proffesional mode becomes available, you were wrong. Beating the game allows pro mode, special costumes, interactive background, and two minigames. But I did understand your story. Do you know how many times that's happened to me in my gaming years? Here are a few examples, and these are all recent.

GTA: SA, three times (all three of them I had beaten the game, with atleast 80% or more on every one).
007: Agent Under Fire: Once
SSBM: Copied my file to my friends memory card, then got really far, and saved my friends file over. Damnit... lost 2k KOs making me lose my Score Display option.
tWW: Three times due to missed figurines that are only obtainable at one point (ex: Puppet Gannon is only available in the first playthrough).

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

i've beat the game about 3 times and i've never heard of the "handcannon". it might help if you described the weapon more. you could be calling another weapon by a different name. the only thing that sounds remotly close to that is the infinite launcher (a rocket launcher with infinite ammo).

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

The Handcannon is a handgun you receive when you get a 5* ranking with all characters on all levels in the minigame "The Mercinaries." Like the Mine Thrower, the only way to receive ammo for it is to buy a capacity upgrade for it. However, its exclusive offers 99.9 firepower, and infinite ammo. The gun is free of charge once you purchase it, but the upgrades are expensive as hell.

(Note, I have no damn scanner, so all of this had to be in a quote, sorry.)

That enough for you? I can put up the statistic chart as well if you'd like. When you start a round of the Mercinaries, it tells you "Get a new secret with a 5* ranking with every character on every level!" it's talking about the Handcannon. The Infinite Launcher is a different weapon entirely. Anyway, do you have any information to help me with my problem?

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

There are a couple of special weapons in RE4 that you get after beating it, with the exception that you have the required funds of course. These include the infinate Rocket Launcher and the Chicago Typewriter (also with an infinate supply of ammo).

Both of them are amazing guns, and you should try to get them. They cost about a million each of whatever currancy they have in RE4. I dont' know, I forgot.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

Who are you talking to aeternus? I have the strategy guide, I know a ton about RE4. It has pictures and descriptions, and it is very thorough in it's description. The Chicago Typewriter does not come at the end of the game, nor does the Launcher, you have to complete Assignment Ada for both, and they both cost 1 million Pesatas (each.) The handcannon is free, but all of it's upgrades including exclusive cost 750k or so.

Alright, I just put up the weapons section as quoted exactly by the strategy guide. Read it to end this weapon disputage.

Well, they're secret weapons? And yes, you do have to do those things to get them.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

But what help does re-stating some commonly known information provide? I don't see what good it does to give some general information on secret weapons, when everybody here who has played RE4 has beaten it atleast once.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

If you beat the game and restart a new one in the same difficulty then you will have all the items you finished with the first time around. But if you beat the game and start and new game on pro difficulty then you dont get all your items. It is like starting a new game but on a harder difficulty. They made it this way on purpose. Because what is the fun of playing the game on a harder difficulty with super powerful guns. Then it would just be like playing the game in the normal difficulty.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

I'm not stupid. For the last time.

I KNOW THAT THERE ARE SECRET WEAPONS. THE REASON I MADE THIS THREAD, WAS TO ASK YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE IF YOU KNEW WHY IT DIDN'T GIVE ME THEM! I ASK YOU PEOPLE: WHY DIDN'T IT LET ME ACCESS THE SECRET WEAPONS, WHY DIDN'T I START WITH MY PREVIOUS ITEMS?

There, got it straight? I'm not asking if you do get secret weapons or not. I know every one, down to it's last statistic. Read the entire thread. It's a whopping 11 posts long. Reading didn't kill anybody (and hasn't yet, to this very day), it won't hurt you.

But what the hell, I finally beat it for the second time, and now it gives me the secret weapons. I have purchased a Chicago Typewriter, and a Matilda, which I have no fully upgraded, and bought the exclusive. It's quite interesting, firing in bursts. I thought it meant like a three-bullet scattershot, but... it's quite the unique gun, like a machine gun, but different. Now, it fires like a machine gun, and is hella fun to use. But the typewriter dominates, nonetheless. I guess now this thread can be used as a thread to discuss, inquire, comment, or criticize the special weapons from now on, that my hideous problem is solved, without any help from ZUsers, because I've worked hard on it. Anyway, I've got the Strategy Guide, as previously stated, so I can most likely answer your question(s), if any.

Yea i told you. You did not start your new game with all your stuff because you picked a new difficulty.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

I didn't pick a new difficulty. As it was only my first time beating it, I was too scared. The first playthrough was hard enough for me, so I only picked normal. The "proffessional" mode is the same. Same levels, same item placements, same weapons, same prices, enemies are just more resistant to damage.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

You said in the first post that you neeed to restart in pro mode. Why don't you?!? You just said that you restarted the game in NORMAL mode.

but in THIS FAQ it says nothing about starting again...
Hand Cannon

Strengths
The Smith and Wesson .500 is the most powerful handgun in the world (although
the .44 Magnum Desert Eagle is fairly equivalent). 20% larger than the Smith
and Wesson .44 Magnum revolver frames, the S&W .500 is basically a white
elephant. Any military specialist will be quick to point out the
impracticality of such an unwieldy sidearm. It's nevertheless a big-ass gun.
The laser attachment under the barrel gives it the bulky look. Unlock this
weapon by achieving 5 stars on each stage for each character in the
Mercenaries mini-game. Yes, this means getting at least 60,000 to 70,000
points twenty times. The hand cannon is free once you get all the 5-star
rankings in the Mercenaries mini-game. This means Leon can get a free weapon
when he gets into the shop! The hand cannon's shots are powerful, and
penetrate enemies like the magnum rounds. Against large slow bosses, this
weapon pretty much carries out a death sentence. The weapon's shots are one of
the few methods Leon may defeat tough armored enemies -- the shots pierce
armor. Handcannon ammo stacks 10 to a box.

Weaknesses
The gun only holds 3 rounds initially. You will need to spend money to upgrade
it into its full potential. The gun is also so to fire and takes some time to
reload. Timing your shots is critical with this gun, or Leon winds up a red
stain on the ground. Also, the ammo for this weapon is separate from the
magnum ammo and requires you to carry yet another type of ammunition. Consider
trading your magnum away for this weapon once you unlock it.

Vital Stats
Firepower (6 grades); 30.0 (Base); 60.0 (Max); 99.9 (Excl)
Firespeed (1 grades); 1.17 (Base/Max)
Reloading (3 grades); 3.67 (Base); 1.83 (Max)
Capacity (6 grades); 3 (Base); 10 (Max); infinite (Excl)

Exclusive Power
The hand cannon's exclusive power is 99.9 damage (almost 100) and infinite
ammo. It takes a shorter while to get to this level since the weapon is free;
the costs of custom tuning will eat you alive though, so consider selling your
magnum to get the cash to custom tune this weapon.

Re: RE4 Special Weapons

WTF? The Handcannon has it's own Ammo? Where did all this extra information come from? 44 caliber Desert Eagle from GTA: SA (I know, it's a real gun, but it's most known for that)? Alright, WTF is all I can say. The Brady Games strategy guide says this weapon has no ammo, and the only way to obtain rounds for it is to purchase capacity upgrades, and finally, the all-worshipped exclusive. And 60-70k, why even add 70k part, when it's simply 60K with every character on every level (K stands for Kilo, which means one thousand, and I'm talking about points on The Mercinaries). No offense, but I'd rather trust a written-out 16-dollar guide created by an entire team of people, many of them with college degrees, than some player-created txt document. Mine includes screenshots galore, item placements, maps of literally every room written in full detail, it's a treasure in paper. It's much more descriptive than any faq.

Yep it is true the hand cannon has the Mighty-Z ammo. I thought that you know evey inch of the game man. I guess your college degree stratagy guide is not so good after all if it tells you there is no ammo for the gun.
