NES hookup

Hey! Long time no see.

Anyway, My cousin and I need some help with her NES system. I didn't really know which catagory this would fit under so apologies if this discussion doesn't really fit here.
The problem is, that, we are having trouble hooking up the NES to our television set. I tried to hook it up and all it does is flash on and off (the little red light on the system flashes, too).

If anyone could guide us on how to hook this bugger up, it'd be mighty appreciated thanks!

*Update* Ok, we got the light to stop flashing, but the screen is blank!

this happens to me all the time. i just put the game in and jiggle it around till it works. if its really bad you could buy a new connecting piece off ebay or send you NES to get repaired.

Yeah. Jiggle the cart a little. Blow in the cables as well. This usually works, but it has been a long time since I've played my NES. Try it though.

one thing i always do is to make sure the game is sticking out just a bit and push down. it pushes back and down. it usually works when i do that, and if it doesn't blow in it or jiggle it.
