Question Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

Most retailers have a policy of carding consumers buying "M" rated games and/or a legal obligation to do so. However, they don't always do what they are supposed to do.

Whenever (if ever) you buy "M" rated games, do you get carded? If you wish, you can state the store where you bought the game and any other interesting details pertaining to the subject.

The only "M" rated game I've ever purchased is RE4. I bought it at Wal-Mart and I did get carded. Luckily, I am 18, so there was absolutely no problem. The man who carded me was elderly--he probably thought I was a crazy hooligan for buying a violent game. But perhaps I'm just stereotyping the elderly. Ha ha.

No, I haven't. I am 16, but I look like I am 20, so that might be it. I just bought Conker: Live and Reloaded a few days ago, and wasn't asked for a card.

My friend's brother is 13 and he got San Andreas when it came out and wasn't carded. (He got it before the AO rating).

Re: Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

I myself have never gotten carded for one(im 15). But thats because I usually go to stores where they could care less. When I am at a store like Wal-Mart and such they have it programed to ask for birthdate upon purchase of an M rated game or R rated movie, so then I have the parents buy it then.

Re: Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

I have been carded once, and that is when I went to purchase Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes a while ago. Unfortunately, I didn't have the I.D. or my parents to get it (hey, I drive) so I didn't get it. (I've already played it, but I just din't own it, so I was going to buy it)

Anyway, I've bought RE4, RE, MGS3, etc. without being carded, but on that one, they carded me for some reason. Guess it's their job though, and some stores make them card every M game, and if they don't, they will be fired or something like that.

People don't seem to care here. When I was about 10-11 years old, I was allowed to buy Resident Evil 2.

Re: Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

I was browsing a local video game store and during the 30 minutes I was there, I saw 3 copies of Halo 2 and 2 copies of san andreas go to unaccompanied minors. I've never been carded because my parent's still don't like me to buy "m" games. The funny thing is, though, when my uncle was buying RE:4 for his 20 year old son, he was carded, lol, and he's like 50!

Well, that's what living next a power station will do to you.

I don't think I've ever been asked for ID when I tried to buy a video game, although I've never personally bought a game which was rated above my age, and I buy my games where any customer is like Jesus to them.

AT my local EB I'm always with an over 18 guardian so I would say no.

And if you want to trade it in, neather GameStop nor EB will take it (not sure about EB, though) because it's rated AO (In there systems, and they do not sell AO games. Ebay buyers seem to want it, though.

Re: Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

Naw, I've never been carded nor do I ever have trouble buying mature game. I'm sixteen and was able to walk up to the counter and purchase Killer 7 without any problems. I'm not complaining, but perhaps retailers should try harder.

Carding in Australia, bahahahahahahahahhahhahahahah ahhhhhh bahahahahahhahahaha, that is so funny, they never ask for carding, if a game is to violent here it is automatically removed of the shelves.

Re: Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

I'm fifteen (almost sixteen now) and short. I've been told by several people that, particularily when I'm not wearing glasses, I look a little younger. Complete strangers think that I'm in middle school when meeting me.
So, somehow, I have never been carded while buying M rated games in my life. Lovely world, ain't it?
....It would be so ironic if I start getting carded only after I'm 18.

No. I look like I'm over 17, anyway (I'm 15). I don't know why they would, though, they'd be losing money if they didn't allow someone underage to buy a game.

Re: Do you get carded when buying "M" rated games?

Wow, the fact that few people seem to be getting carded for M rated games is quite...disturbing.

It basically defeats the purpose of the ratings system, doesn't it?

Well, after the Hot Coffee Scandal, I would be ready to start showing ID more often, folks.
