A console descision

I can't decide whether to get an Xbox now, or wait for an Xbox 360.

With the Xbox, there's an established collection of pretty good games. With the 360, there's the excitement of a new generation and stuff. But I heard it's only backwards compatible with a couple of games.

Does anyone know if the 360 will be fully compatible with older Xbox games, or only a few?

It will be compatible with the Xbox best sellers, not all. I recomend that you wait until you here the price of the X360..if it's reasonable then buy it if not just get an Xbox.

You'd be better off getting a PS3 or Revolution when they come around.

The GC version is superior overall - admit it.

I would wait for the 360 to come out. That way you know how much the system is and what it has to offer, and if you don't want it the price for the X-Box will go down a bit more.

I would just wait for the Revolution, don't support Xbox, they are our enemies.

Not if he wants games exclusive to the 360.

Just... no.

Both of you: if he plans on purchasing an Xbox, that's his own damn business. Lay off the fanboyism and just answer his question, provided you have a reasonable answer.

Anyhow, I'd say Lunar Boy's got the right idea. I was a bit impatient myself and picked up a cheap Xbox a few months back, though. I guess if I want to upgrade later, I will once the price drops.

As for the reverse compatibility, I hear that thier goal is to make it so that every Xbox game can be played on the 360, but at this point, it is unknown if it will.

Re: A console descision

REverse compatibility is an issue because they need to pay nVidia royalties to emulate their XBox GPU Chipset inside the 360.
The machines are built so differently that each game that is backward compatible also needs to be recompiled differently to play on the 360. While Halo 2(It already is running on the 360) will be top priority to get running, you might have a tougher time waiting for them to get Trigger Man, or Shrek Super Party going for you.
Oh and, I'd wait, Free X-Box Live you'll get also, though dumbed-down.

It's Nintendo's next console. It's coming out next year, and is said to have lesser graphic power than the Xbox 360 and PS3, but new and unique controls, extras, and games. The Revolution also has the ability to download all the past Nintendo games onto it's flash drive so that you can play them on it.

Save up your money and buy the new 360. Since you are going to buy one anyway, why buy an older model that might be outdated in another few more years? Invest in the new one is the smart choice, I think.

Another fact to consider is the possibility of a price drop on the original Xbox when the 360 arrives in stores.

Might as well just wait for the Xbox 360. There arent any games worth playing on the Xbox except the best sellers. Xbox 360, hands down.

It will feature graphics equal if not better than the Xbox 360. *turns into the hulk and kills Mr. Wonderful*.

Like the compulsive freak I am, I'd wait and get a taste of the opinions. Now, that dosen't gurantee you will like the most popular system, but well, that's what I would do. Well, I'm not a very opinionated guy, you see.

Re: A console descision

To my understanding, Xbox 360 isn't really backwards compatable at all. In otherwords, you can't just insert your Xbox disc in and expect it to work. The most popular games will be available through emulation by download. At least that's what I think.

At this point, you're most definitely better off waiting for Xbox 360. If you get an Xbox, you'll see all sorts of games that look and play much better, and you'll regret your purchase.

It's not like Xbox has that great of software anyway. Limited backward compatability isn't really a big deal at all.

Guys, guys your all wrong! Let me clear things up about revolution! The graphics have not been officialy discused yet, but nintendo says it will have graphics not possible to date. I took a look at my dads electrical enginering magazine, and it had an article that featured " a new generation of processor" called "3-Deep". Revolution's graphics are either 3-Deep or something close to it. that is my theory. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

I've took that as PR BS. (Nintendo's old standby)

While your idea is possible, as of now, your wrong (sorry), and we're right. Until Nintendo gives out a definate speculation to what it's GPU's power will be, we have to go with their statements that graphics aren't important, and "innovation" is.

Argh. Fanboys.

Anyways, ZeldaFreak++ pretty much has it right. That's basically what was reported in the August issue of EGM.
