I know this should be in the Video Games Forum but I have to show this and show how ignorant some people are with video games. This is a bigger issue than I thought. If you look at my letter I wrote a very NON-threating letter to him stating my beliefs as a gamer and look at his response that I think he just copy and pasted.

Hi, My name is Jeff and I am a 18 year old gamer. I am just wondering
why would you just put yourself through all this when there isn't
really an issue at all. I do read the news often and I also do other
things than just play games. On your site, it says that quote: "Video
games are literally "murder simulators" teaching our kids how to
kill." I find this statement very incorrect. First case, Not all video
games teach other people to murder each other and cause violent acts.
If you look at the Nintendo Gamecube, 98% of those games are all age
friendly. Second, If you don't want the kids to buy the games then
tell the parents about it. The parents should be responsible for every
game their children buy. The ESRB was created for this reason. Back in
the 80's, video games did not have an association in which it rates
and informs parents on what games to buy. The ESRB has a content
rating on the front and the back of the video game box. It also
clearly states what the game contains and what it will show.

The current issue with the "Hot Coffee" scandal I can understand and
Rockstar should of looked into it further but I have played Grand
Theft Auto and I have no urges to go out and kill people or train to
because I have a sensible mind to not do so. I have a younger brother
who is 13 who also has the sense to think that video games are video
games and not real. Video games is a proper form of entertainment. I
have not seen you put a pull on movies or television yet. All of these
forms of entertainment has a content label on it. We all know that
minors are not allowed to watch R-rated movies because it is too
violent or vulgar and their parents wouldn't allow it. The same goes
with a video game. A minor cannot buy a M rated game from any store
including Gamestop and Eb Games. I went into a Gamestop two years ago
and I couldn't buy an M Rated game because they knew I was not old
enough. The only problem is that you state that they can go to
Blockbuster and rent a game that is M-Rated. Once again that is not
true because Blockbuster has the box of the game itself to display it
and also Blockbuster wouldn't allow a minor to get their hands on it
anyways.

May I ask have you ever stopped and look closely at the video game
itself? You see Grand Theft Auto and the M-Rating but everyone goes up
into a fit when they see it is too violent for kids to play. If it is
too violent and it offends people, then don't buy it. The game doesn't
hurt anyone when you don't buy it. Most games on the market aren't
even M-rated. Most are T rated and E rated. If a minor does get a hand
on a game like Grand Theft Auto then you must ask why the parents
allowed it? It is because they do not pay attention to what their
children buy and ultimately there is a problem. The parents must
reinforce what is right and what is wrong. They must look at the title
and the ESRB rating on it. If they don't then the parents are the one
that is damaging the youth not the games.

engaging in civil conversation but for the sole purpose of harassing me,

an initial contact by you that I shall consider any further emails from you
as violative of my rights and violative of the aforementioned criminal
statutes.

There is nothing more hypocritical than a bunch of gamer thugs who harass me
and threaten me all in the name of "freedom of expression."

I have a constitutional right to talk, at the Senator's request, to the
staff of Senator Clinton. I did that. I have a right to point out that
Electronic Arts is engaged in a knowing conspiracy with the "mod community"
(what's next, "a pedophile community"?) to distribute porn to children. Any
of you who don't think that is what EA is doing need to get a law degree and
practice for 30 years, as I have. Then I'll be interested in your
"opinions" about The Sims 2 scandal.

If you videogaming thugs don't like what I do, then get off your rear ends
and talk to the media, talk to your representatives, and write articles for
your Internet game news sites. Don't flood my email inbox with your
petulant tirades which are neither welcome nor productive.

All they do is encourage me in my knowledge that normal people who have a
right to stop predatory video game companies' practices are going to succeed
in protecting children from those practices. Honestly, some of you email me
and threaten me because you say "You want to ban all video games." That is
reflective, by and large, of the perspicacity of the typical threatening
emails I get. Such people don't want facts. They want an argument. They
want to treat me as if I were some punching bag prostitute in GTA. I've had
it with this. I am going to stop it.

We won the "Hot Coffee mod" battle, and we shall win other battles. If any
of you clowns are still dumb enough to threaten me and harass me after
receiving this email, then contact your lawyers. You're going to need them.

Oh my god! This man is a jerk! He is calling everyone who plays video games "thugs'? Oh yeah, that like saying Bloods and Crips are a part of a peaceful group and will never harm anyone. If I was a thug, I would have guns o me, going out on the streets and shooting and kiling random people, seeling drugs for profit doing an assload of crime and just running a path of violesnse in my area. I have been brought up right by my faimly to not be a thug. Hell, I am a Chirstian that plays video games, not no lowlife gaming thug!

Also, he is calling all gamers "clowns". Okay, clowns wear make-up, have funny clothing, and have a big, red nose on their face. I don't wear clown make-up or have a funny red nose. I am not a dumb clown, nor any other gamers that I have meet in my life. So wait a sec, so he calling anyone who enjoy gaming or create video games dumb? What a retard!

I play songs on my piano from video games. Some of the songs from games like Super Mairo or Final Fantasy, I had to learn from ear. That's not dumb, thats is being smart. I also write fanfictions from vidoe games, and let me tell you, writing takes alot of work and writing also lets you express yourself no matter it is original or fanfiction. The only reason I have got into writing because of video games.

Creating a video game takes a alot or work, in technology and math. Game desing has complex math involed and you must be very good in math to program a game well. Does math makes you dumb or being a clown? NO! It makes you a smart person.

He also said that he'll only listen to anyone with a law degree, meaning that he don't care about anyone but himself. What if a gamer is studying in law? Is he going to listen to him/her? This attorney is going to passed up the fact that this person is study law and going to put him/her down because he/she is a gamer, but also studying law. The attoreny isn't going to care that the gamer what's in to in law, the attorney just wants to think all to much of himself.

All in all, this man is just a fool who thinks WAY to highly of himselfs and just thinkgs about himself. this man needs to destory his overgorwn ego. I want to talk to him and tell him he needs to stop letting his stupid ego talk for him.

Serioulsy, this man needs to stop. I don't get it, why he thinks gamers are lowlife thugs, clowns, and plain dumb. Oh, since I am a gamer, I am dumb and retarded. My god! Mr. Thompson is so wrong. I have some friends(I.E. Nox), and including myself that are gamers and hell, they get A's and B's at school. Well, I dont have that much to talk about.

eh, he didn't call gamers for clowns and thugs, he called the gamers that harrassed him for clowns and jerks. And he had a lot of good points about it being parents, and not the industry's responsebility.

Wow amazing, just amazing. I can't believe this guy, he has no idea what he's talking about. First of all, Im a huge gamer and most of my friends aren't. And because of that, I know alot of things they don't, which is very, very true. Video games also helped to develop MY reading and writing skills as well. I started playing video games like at the age of four or five, no lies, my first console was a SNES. I can read very fast, faster than anyone I have ever known. And besides that, does he really believe that games ''program'' us into beating up people in real life? Oh please, look how long I have been playing video games, and anyone I know would say that Im one of the least violent people they know. ''Clowns'' and ''Thugs'' hardly describe gamers, matter of fact most gamers are contradictory to that and are very intelligent. He really need to shut his mouth before he gets whats coming to him.

Heh, the old "conspiracy" ploy. I would definitely want to see some proof of the "conspiracy" of EA company from him, since he's so defiant towards the reality of the world in his little "adventure for saving little kids from violent games". It's so interesting to see how all of a sudden, he cares so much about other people. I thought most lawyers are blood-thirsty, money-sucking, pride-enduring, and ego-expanding hypocrites. I guess I was wrong.

Jack Thompson just needs to shut up. Seriously. Now that this GTA stuff has been taken care of, he's out of the spotlight again, so he claims some big conspiracy between EA and the modding community.

EA has better things to do than release patches to counter what people are doing with their own legal copies of the game.

Since when have video games hurt anybody? Thanks to playing them my arm healed two times faster when I broke it and my hand-eye coordination is top notch. And how the crap can video games make you a better killer if the AI is more A than I?

Thompson's pretty funny. Kinda depressing that he's actually being taken seriously now, though. I mean, the man regularly refers to various industry figures as Hitler...

This guy is an ASS. I swear, if he doesn't stop, someone is gunna hurt him, and I won't feel the least bit sorry for him. I think the whole idea of video games is to have fun, and this guy, along with the paranoid parents of this age need to give it up and realize that we're gunna face this stuff in the future, and i dare say that 13 yr olds these days are "innocent", which is an excuse parents use when we ask them why it matters to shelter us from inevitablities.

Ive played video games since i was wee little and before that I watched my mom. And most games I do play are violent (I like swords...tee hee) but never ever once have I gotten into a fight or tried to hurt anyone. Ok so Im not that smart. Really, but I know you have to be smart to play games. Besides, video games arent much more than interactive movies. Lets get rid of those too!

Dang you. No wonder I'm so good at the shooting range.

I can't belive this guy. I'm 13 and I play video games regularly. I just started playing Resident Evil 4 and I don't have the idea of shooting people's heads when they come running toward me. He's a retard.

I love the people who complain about how video game violence is teaching us to kill (sidenote: it's even funnier when they're the same people who promote guns and such), when every single gamer i've ever met has said stuff like "I know it's just a videogame. I dont want to kill people"
It's also pretty cool how everytime someone trys to show these guys that it's rated M for a damn good reason, and how parents should be monitoring what their child is doing, they blow up in your face say stuff like "But they're violent videogames! They're bad! We should stop them! 1st amendment only applies when it's in my favor!" ... ok, so i made that last one up, but that's practically what they're saying.

On a humorus side, it seems that Scott over at VGCats, has also heard of this story, or some derivation.

I learned only one thing from video games; there pretty awsome to play.

To say that vidoegames teach people to kill is the utmost ignorant and stupid statement to make. When people say this, they act as if the people who make the videogames are rebels bent on chaos on destruction and that the only way to get thier message across is through video game 'propaganda'. Frankly I have played many games, some violent and have never learned to kill, harm, or do any type of wrong act. John Tomphson needs to quit his whole anti-videogame revolution and just shove it. He's worse than, dare I say it; Joe Liberman.

When John Tomphson says that videogames teach to kill, mind you he's saying all videogames teach to kill. That means even the most innocent of childish games have a darkside to them. Mario and Zelda must be pretty subliminal according to his quote, as all the educational games as well. Leapster system look out, theres a man after you and he's armed with a ridiculous quote to ban your games.

If a Super model would walk down an aisle, and someone would tape a video, and use the computer to remove all the Super models clothes, would all super models be banned?

Thats my take on all this, on some of his points I can understand but generally, he's being an idiot (oh my! I said a bad word, I bet video games will be blamed for my language) I understand GTA, I don't have a problem with an AO rating on GTA. I however do have a problem with him chasing a bunch of other games, soon enough he's going to be going after Ape Escape because it tells children to go out and capture monkeys to do your own bidding.
