What is the ugliest game you have ever played?

Before you post a response, I want to make myself absolutely clear when I say "ugliest game."

By saying "ugliest game," I mean graphically, what is the least appealing, just plain ugliest game you have ever played. Not the worst game, not the hardest game, not the most violent game--the ugliest.

I shall begin. My vote goes for Final Fantasy VII. This choice may ruffle a few feathers, but honestly, this game looks horrible. The storyline is good and the character development is mediocre, but honestly, this game is absolutely disgusting. Some of you may say, "Well, that's Midgar for you. It's supposed to be ugly." That's a weak argument, if you ask me. I don't mind prerendered backgrounds and such, but they are horribly done in FF7. They lack texture and any sort of depth visually. Also, the actual character design in the regular gameplay (not the cut scenes, mind you) is hideous. Huge forearms, no elbows, no mouths...it's despicable. Even the battle graphics are only mediocre. The characters are only slightly more defined (Tifa's breasts are actually overdefined) and remain extremely fuzzy.

It's almost unbelievable to think that Ocarina of Time came out only a year after this game. Graphically, OoT blows FF7 out of the water. There's no comparison. I can play OoT now and still be impressed by a significant portion of its graphics. FF7 has not aged nearly as well.

Rogue Agent made me sick. The game was made in 2004. OOT was better in some parts. Even the animations not done in real time were blurred and fuzzy. EA should be ashamed.

I agree, it was horrible. My brother, however, fell in love with it the first time he played it. o.O

Back when FF7 first game out, the game was gorgeous - best graphics you'd see on the PS. Of course that was due to them being pre-rendered, and because of that the game has not aged well. That's in direct contrast to OoT which was mostly full 3-D. But if I compare the pre-rendered graphics in FF7 to those found in OoT, I think FF7's are still far superior (except for the stagnant camera). In terms of 3D I see it as the opposite - FF7 is ugly in comparison.

Anyway, ugliest game that I ever recall having the misfortune to play (it was a demo thankfully) is BUBSY 3D. Not only is it hideous, but the gameplay has to be the worst I've ever encountered.

Tony Hawk games, every one of them. They may be good graphics from a technical standpoint (though not really...), but from a stylistic standpoint they're hideous.

The most disgusting game that I have ever played was Superman 64. Everytime I played it I felt sick. It was sooooooooooooooooo damn bad I can't even believe it was released. There were glitches EVERYWHERE, the graphics sucked beyond belief, and the gameplay was choppy and straight-up BAD!

No, the graphics just suck all around. The Tony Hawk game for Xbox 360 is by far the worst looking next gen game I've seen thus far. The series really lost its appeal to me after the third one.

I don't recall any ugly games, because I never got that many games for the 64 and I see none of Gamecube (I have over 20 games) and none really on any gameboy handheld. I have played Tony Hawk on GBA, I do have to agree. Not that great of graphics.

I had that game! It was TERRIBLE! Half the game was flying through stupid rings for some unknown reason. Pitiful. I traded it in and only got about 2 bucks for it. No wonder, really.

Ooooh, that is tough. Hmmm...I'd probably have to go with Virtua Fighter 3 TB. Graphically it doesn't live up to its name. The backgrounds weren't bad, but the characters could have gotten a visual make-over.

I usually play as Pai so I'll try remember what was wrong with her. Let's see...I remember that sometimes it looked like her arms were tearing at the shoulders (you could really notice this when she did one of her victory poses). Polygons would look jagged at times and occasionally I would see "seams" when she bent her legs and arms. And I really got irritated with the fact that the designers gave her bright "candy apple" red lipstick, as well as the other women in the game, for her to wear. It just stood out really badly against her ghostly pale skin (another thing they did wrong, made her TOO pale).

Okay, I think I bashed the graphics enough. But I'm guessing the designers noticed the flaws because the next game installment had awesome visuals.

On a side note, I've seen that a lot of movie based games Disney released (espessily for the Playstation) are absolutely horrible. It looks like they whipped up the game overnight. I haven't played any, though.

Well, I don't know if you mean worst graphics I have ever seen or worst graphics of this console generation, because the outdated games can't compare to the newer ones. I'll just tell you my answer from this console generation: Pac-Man World 2. I suppose these aren't that bad, but whenever I played it, I always felt completely nauseous. This may have been because of poor camera angles, but I'm not really affected by that.

Pristontale. The graphics looked like they were on the N64, and most N64 games had better graphics.

The story was also better.

The ugliest game I eva played was monster Jam a Monster truck raceing game. The graphics looked like they were from 1998 and it was for gamecube. Not to mention the game sucked

I have to second milk here. FF7's graphics were great for it's time. Compared to today's standards they may be quite craptastic, but back then you must realize it was a huge breakthrough. And even still today, while the characters may be blocks, the environments are very much well made. And I loved the cinematics, I don't know about you =P

Personally, the biggest failure of a game I've played was Mario Party 5. My brother and I were hoping for a good game in that one... but we could just never find it fun. The series, for us, had started to go down hill with Mario Party 4. I don't even know why we bought 5.

And you are being given a strike for flaming. It doesn't matter if someone's opinion is different from yours, it does not justify this. Yes, I agree, there is no way that FF7, even overrated as it is, deserves to be called the "ugliest" game ever... but that doesn't mean I can start insulting someone who does believe that.

I bought a game called Lost Kingdoms for my cube a long time ago.

Oh man. I forgot about that game. I have it too... I actually finished it. What a waste of time.


And guys, this is a thread about the ugliest game. He says straight out in the first post that he doesn't want this turning into a worst game thread.

The mouthless characters in FFVII were really bothersome. Couldn't they have at least added a line as a mouth on their faces? But the graphics in general were pretty good, except that they had some horrifying-looking things like Jenova. They weren't just scary, they were...disturbing.

Conclusion: Good graphics. Gross monsters.
