Video Game Logic?
I have played through several games recently and I have to question the logic. For example, Tales of Symphonia. The use of Presea's personal EX Skill allows you to pick up FOOD in dongeons and whatnot. Milk, cheese, any ingredient in the game can be found. Another is OoT. If you have milk in your bottle and pick up the Master Sword, it's still there SEVEN years later. Talk about curdled. Anyone else have simple logic that has been defied by a favorite game?

Re: Video Game Logic?
In all Zelda games, how is it possible that Link can go through his entire adventure without sleep day and night (except in MM, where the Old Lady's story makes Link fall asleep)? It's just not logical. Also, how come he doesn't eat or (this might sound nasty) go to the bathroom?!(well, no house in the Zelda games [other than OoA and MM] have bathrooms).

Re: Video Game Logic?
Logic doesn't really apply to videogames. Link would be dead of exhaustion, sleep deprivation, blood loss, disease, freeze, thirst, hunger, full bowels, heat, and just about every other possible cause by the time his adventure was over.

Admittedly Metal Gear Solid 3 was a step in the right direction, what with having to feed yourself and all, but you can't just pluck a bullet out with your knife, stick some bandages on it and BAM! be cured. Note how they give you disenfectant, but your wounds never get infected? (at least that i've found) There are other holes too, such as getting shot in a vital organ, head or the stomach/intestines isn't instantly fatal. Many times I've removed bullets from Snakes forehead, lower jaw and eyes with little consequence. As I said, I think the technology exists to make a game that hits near realism, but it wouldn't be any fun to play. Think about Link getting a cold and you not being able to play the game for four days while he rested and got better. Or having to start over because wolves ate him in his sleep.

Re: Video Game Logic?
I wasn't talking about major things like that. I mean things that that just can't be the way they are. Like the milk thing. It should disappear or something. I admit that some things are better left illogical, but others just don't work. Some of the things make the game seem funny too.

Re: Video Game Logic?
Simple answer: all videos games I can think of defy logic. 'Video game' and 'logic' are amongst the long list of phrases that shouldn't be used in the same sentence without a negative of some kind.

Re: Video Game Logic?
Don't try and put games and logic in the same sentence. You'll give yourself a headache. But yes, there are some stupid mistakes in games though....

Re: Video Game Logic?
I often don't question the logic, but just play the damn game!
But really, the illogicalness of a game is what makes it so fun. The lack of reality is what makes games so awesome.

Re: Video Game Logic?
Do you honestly want to play a game where you must meet each of the characters needs?_____________________________________________
<3 <3 <3 </3 __________________________________________________ ________________ Come on, it's no fun. Only exception is The Sims, decent game, good for a few laughs and such, and still follows logic. But you can't play an RPG and travel vast lands if you have to crap and shower all the time. It's just too much of a hastle. |

Re: Video Game Logic?
I think logic in video games usually takes a little away from the experience (I hate most sports videogames, esspecially realistic sims, but if the game has some type of arcadey stuff like sega soccer slam, i'll look it over...and usually toss it away.) MGS3's most realistic yet sometimes ridiculous medical system was fun, and added a little realism to a game that rains blood from the sky and has you walk through a river full of ghosts. What is shown through this is that pure real-world logic is irrevelant to a game, and i'm glad, because I play games to:
1. Escape reality. 2. Have fun. See my point? Quote:

Re: Video Game Logic?
Okay, apperently, only a couple of people have done what I suggested. Just post the funny little things that are good but defy all logic. It's all in good fun, and I enjoy thinking about the unthought-about. Kinda like if you call a male dog a son of a *****, is it still an insult?
