Excuse me!?

On game rankings they have the avergae of scores for video games so they count Electronic Gaming Monthly and avergae out all the scores that it is givin from the three reviewers
They gave F-Zero a 7.83/10!! HOW DOES THAT WORK????!!!

Re: Excuse me!?

One gave it a 9, the other game it a 7, or some such thing... the less-then-spectacular 7 scores were given because the reveiwers thought it was too difficult... A sentiment I thknk most regulars around here will share, if they ever get around to playing the game.

Re: Excuse me!?

There are three EGM reviewers, and the three scores are averaged. It was a 9, 7 and 7.5.

They apparently didnt like it because it was too hard. Boo hoo.

Re: Excuse me!?

Remember, they don't always rate games based on personal preference, they rate them on quality, and how good they would be for their readers. Most of their readers would probably be frustrated by the difficulty (I'm not discounting myself here), and so they gave it lower scores.

Re: Excuse me!?

I know difficulty counts for mass appeal, but they shouldnt dock it too much. The result of that is obviously the difficulty of WW. And I do agree things can be hard. But I doubt its that hard on easy, and normal. Now if expert and master difficulty are hard, well shouldnt they be? (Note: those are the difficulty levels on Fzero X, I dont know if they are the same on GX) I know I'll get hung up on the higher difficulties, in fact I have only beaten the first two cups on expert on F-zero X. Sometimes its good to have the game push back. Now, for anyone who has played it, is the difficulty prohibitive?

Re: Excuse me!?

I think GI gave it an 8.25 mainly because of the difficulty, but that was also only one person, i forget what the second opinion was. It hink they said just as entertaining as it is difficult and it was shallow. It's good to make a game like that hard every once in a while i mean it's not like racing one of those would be a breeze if you really could.

Re: Excuse me!?

I honestly don't care what reviewers think. If something new comes out that they don't like, it doesn't really matter to me. The only thing that matters is if I have fun with a game. Anyways, I've had enough of easy-to-beat games that last a week.

Re: Excuse me!?

Some games really are tough, I still cant even get bronzes in Rogue Leader. But other things are a matter of practice and skill. F-zero may seem shallow, but the fact is it forces you to do well, and not to have to master hard controls or difficult vehicles. You have to know the course, how to race it etc. Where to set the acceleration/max speed, how to best use the stats on your car.

You both read my mind. I personally can’t wait for the challenge, I too have had enough of "easy-to-beat games that last a week". I know this is one of those games where I'll get up an hour or so early every day just to get that little bit further. I know I'll have to memorize the tracks, I know I'll have to get used to the handling of my vehicle, and, I know it's going to beat me over and over again while teasing me to have one more go.
I say "bring it on".

Re: Excuse me!?

And here the RE remake was the second easiest RE game for me, next to Nemesis...

Difficulty is often an issue of preference. Difficulty does not make a game better. Many games are simply difficult for the sake of being difficult. Ironically, this is very regularly the case in racing games, where the game itself will "cheat" to provide increased challenge. Of course, I can't say whether this is the case with F-Zero's latest incarnation.

Difficulty is generally a bad thing if the learning curve itself is horrible or non-existant.

Reviewers have the right to be critical. You're free to judge their opinions, but your own judgment is baseless if you haven't spent a fair amount of time with the game yourself, and experienced all of the alternatives that they have.

Re: Excuse me!?

Woohoo! A few posts back In stated I had only beaten two cups in expert on F-zero X, I got the third one. Ill have that 4th one soon (if I cant get my GX copy soon).

I dont think F-zero cheats Dryth. I totally hate games that "cheat". Its so annoying when the CPU "rubber bands", or puls out things out of thin air ( a la items in mario kart and resources in RTS games).

In my mind difficulty is annoying if it is because of poor game structure. Bad controls, and bad gameplay are examples. I personally got to the first item box in REmake and put it down. I couldnt stand it. I loved every aspect of the game: except the item system (and to a lesser extend the controls), which totally put me off to the game. Difficulty should come from the game, not from having to master control systems. You should have total control of what you want to do. Case in point: Ikaruga. Hard as nails, but the controls are air tight. I never do well. My high score is 4 and one-third million. But when I die its because of me, not some stupid error from bad or unresponsive controls. I dont get angry at this game.

I have more conviction is getting F-zero now.

Hey, everyone here who gets this, we need to make a ZU ranking topic for best times. Jacksaddiction, myself or whoever gets it first, we shoudl really make one.

Re: Excuse me!?

Perfect Dark anyone ? My god that could be hard as nails when it wanted to. BUT, I still try the missions I haven’t beaten. It's not an unfair game, you just have to know the in's and out's of the levels on the harder difficulty levels. (and be extremely quick on your feet). But I still feel the urge every now-and-then to give it another go.
Ikaruga, is another example. I swear I could turn green and shout "Hulk Smash" when I play this game. It drives me nuts, and my girlfriend wonders how I can hate a game so much, yet continue to play it almost daily.
And, Super Monkey Ball. I have to keep this game at the back of my game pile. If I see it, I want a go.......................next thing I know I have a broken joypad in my hand and I've lost 4 hours of my life, but I'm craving another "little" shot.
I know F-Zero GX is going to do the same to me as these games do. IT'S GOING TO TAKE OVER MY LIFE.
Just like most of my games......................
They watch me you know.............
They know my every move.............
They know I want them...............
But yeah, I'm definitely going to buy F-Zero GX when it is released here in the UK.

Re: Excuse me!?

*calls the mental hospital and tells them to pick up jack*

Yeah, those games were all great, especially Super Monkey Ball. That game was probably the most frustrating I have ever played, aside from SSX: Tricky. PD is very hard as well, but nowhere near SMB or Ikaruga.

Re: Excuse me!?

I havent beaten PD, by far. I still have 6 Perfect agent levels to complete, and I doubt Ill ever finish it. The most annoying thing is when its hard to aim because of the creeping framerate. Otherwise, it great. My worst level is carrington institute:defense, sheesh that level is HARD! People say the Skedar ship one is the hardest, not in my book. All those shielded guys.....*shudder*. But getting cloaking device cheat? Fun. Getting invincibility? Great. Earning your way through makes games that much better, and you more proud of your accomplishments.

I was just attempting the joker cup. I havent practiced those levels in a while, im quite rusty. But its there. It'll come. A challenge is alwyas good. Just mix in easy games sdo you can relax once in a while.

I shoudl pick up Ikaruga again. Hey jacksaddiction, whats your high score? Maybe we can improve each other by competition.

Re: Excuse me!?

Gamers.com gave it a 1/10. There must have been some sort of mistake, as it is one of the most highly anticipated games on any of the next gen consoles

But IGN gave it a 9.3.

Re: Excuse me!?

Lets see. Game Imformer gave it a 8.25, Nintendo Power gave it a 4.9 out of 5. There pretty good reviews. I'll buy it. <Dishes out $50>
